It’s not certain though until it actually happens. Very big probably yes.
You know, there’s a Canadian Football League, and there used to be an NFL Europe... it’s where guys go who aren’t good enough for the NFL.

For that matter, I’d put the Alabama Crimson Tide up against a world team and would still bet on Bama.

Not disputing that. Simply stating that bigger upsets have happened and will happen.

It's really quite fecking simple, when there is a world league for American football then whoever wins can proudly call themselves world champions. Until then you might as well say galactic champions as It's just as ludicrous.

When they call themselves world champs they are just saying-rightfully- that they are the best team in the world.

The NBA calls them world champs as well and of course Baseball has a world series. I don't mind the world champions tag since there aren't really any countries that take these sports seriously outside the US.

Oh man. What a brilliant game. What a fecking amazing feeling. So damn wish I was back in Philly for this. Argh!! Congrats to the other eagles fans here too.

Also, @Billy Blaggs I know you were rooting for the Pats. But you seeing that Eagle.. Man, how right was I to take that as an Omen!! Hope you're doing good.

The CFL is more a case of "big enough" for the NFL. Funny enough, a lot of the major innovations that happened in pro football came from the CFL. West Coast Offense of the 80's and 90's came from the CFL. The Zone Blitz defensive package came from the CFL. I stopped following football when I stopped playing it in the early 2000's so I'm unaware of any other big ones, but the CFL has sort of always been a proving ground for progression of the sport.

I’m not knocking your league at all, as a matter of fact, the best football player ever from my hometown played in the CFL, I’m just stating that other nations have or have had football teams and the level isn’t the same.

They’re the best team in the NFL. Just like when City win the Premier League they are the best team in England.

That’s where the logic comes in. If city win the league, the CL and go on to win the club World Cup they’ll be known as the best team in the world. The NFL is SO strong that it negates the need for any competition that determines the best when pitted against other countries/continents. Whereas in football Europe will always have 4/5 extremely strong leagues in different countries.

I think the NFL would be wise to expand to Toronto and London next. Plenty of fans to support both franchises if something like that happened.

I’m gonna lay this out in factual terms for you.

The NFL, It’s a national competition.

They are national champions and not world champions.

There’s not really anything more to be said. Until they play and win a world competition (if and when one actually exists) then they are only national champions, no matter how inferior the competition is.

I wouldn't really call it "my league"! I have citizenship in both countries, and currently live in the NFL one. Fathers family is from Wisconsin and I grew up being a cheese bleeder! Even though I don't follow football, I would still say the Packers are my team, and I've never followed or supported a CFL team. Hell, I don't even know what teams are in Ontario these days!

My point was, that "good enough" to me tends to mean skilled enough. In terms of skills, the CFL tends to be basically no different from the NFL. The difference is size. The NFL gets to select the guys who are big AND skilled, and the guys who are not big, BUT skilled are left up shit creek, or up north to the CFL. Of course the absolutely transcendent talents don't tend to exist in the CFL, guys who are so quick, so agile that it doesn't matter they are small, but they also tend to be special teams specialists.

If you look back at this season, Keenum and Goff played really good seasons. Gurley was in the MVP conversation. Foles is SB MVP.
What the feck is Jeff Fisher doing to his players? How was the guy ever employed?

They've been talking about NFL to Toronto since at least the 90's. I dunno if it would ever happen. I think in a lot of ways it would undermine the CFL, and that would be sad for the sport as a whole.

Happy for the Eagles. The whole Malcolm Butler thing is odd.

So you don’t believe that undeniably being the best Team in the world at this current moment is an understandable reason to refer to yourself as world champions?

If that was the cast then tournaments to decide who the best teams are wouldn’t exist right? If we can just decide who’s the best without having them match up.

The number of players who contributed to this win is incredible. Nelson Agholor going from being possibly the worst WR in the league to 9 catches for 84 yards in the SB is just surreal

If the Spanish Champions, EURO winners or CL winners would call themselves world champions I'd laugh about them as well.

That’s the whole point, they HAVE worthy competition that presents itself every year. The NFL doesn’t so the assumption just makes sense.

That’s not how competitive sport works. It’s based on results not assumptions.
And some assumptions just make sense. Like Australia being the world champions in anything kangaroo related. No one else would even compete.

Just got a chance to watch a few replays of the final hail mary. There was a definitely roughing the passer on that play as everyone's eyes were down field. He threw the ball and got hit well afterwards and the defender took him down to ground. Maybe not a big deal in the grand scale of things but it would have been a 15 yard penalty and one more down.

Piss poor example seeing as Australia has Aussie rules football a game that pretty much only they play in a league of their own. When the team lifts the AFC championship they don't declare themselves World Champions because they don't have this massive hang up about being the best in the world all the time.
