I genuinely just chuckled reading that whilst on the phone with a client

I have an horsey fan in the office too! He's a horsey fan and i'm a cheater. We have a lot of fun.

In general the NFL culture is pretty good between rival fans, and even team in the UK. I used to play and regularly now i'll bump into some ex rival team players in the gym and there's no animosity, despite the fact we've tried to decapitate each other over the years.

So why does everyone follow the team they do, if you're UK based of course.

Mine is pretty simple, on John Madden 93 on the Megadrive (I was 6) - my brother told me that we would press "random team" once, and whoever it brought up was your team for life. I got Pats and he got dolphins.. ()

I met an Eagles fan recently whilst in Denver and we were initially winding each other up but then found common ground in our dislike of Tom Brady :)

But yea, rivalries in the NFL are definitely more friendly than in the PL for example.

I got into NFL properly after my mate relocated to the US and he got into it, so having a team to follow helped my interest.

He moved to Denver.

I actually have a good reason for Seattle. I was going out with a girl from Seattle during their Superbowl season. I started watching it a bit towards the end, jumped on their bandwagon with her and her dad bought me a jersey. Was pretty much sold then.

Not from the UK but I am a Dolphins fan, got started back at Super VI the first football game I can remember and randomly picked the Dolphins as the team I liked I was 5 at the time. What made that worse is that I lived in Western NY State, Buffalo Bills territory, my father had grown up in Buffalo so he was of course a huge Bills fan, as were my brothers and most of the people around where I lived. The 70's were a great time to be a Dolphins fan in Bills territory.

My one brother switched allegiances later in life deciding he would like to follow one of the expansions teams right from the beginning. He flipped a coin and he is now a Carolina Panthers fan, but at least he can claim to have followed them from the start.

I probably have the most lame reason - a few years back I heard on the grapevine that madden was a good game on the PS3.

So I bought it. And I thought to myself I have no idea wtf this is - I could count on one hand the number of NFL players I knew. One of which was Brady.

So I played the game as the Patriots, learned the rules over time, started following it on TV.

Got into it and now I'm pretty much obsessed. Subscribed to game pass a couple seasons back, watch all the games condensed every week, and all because I started playing madden with the Patriots I am a patriots fan lol.

The first NFL game I ever watched was the NFC CF between the Packers and Seattle which went to OT after a succesful onside kick. I didn't know what the feck was going on at the time, but the following SB was so much fun. I didn't know it was pretty rare to get picked on the goalline on first down when you have the best RB in the league, but I jumped up and screamed like a madman after the Malcolm Butler interception.

After all that I couldn't wait until the new season started and the Texans featured on Hard Knocks in the offseason, so there you go. I didn't even know which division they were in or whether they were any good but was sold after Hard Knocks.

I don't really hate other franchises though, which means there won't be any games in the regular season which are extra special to me. It's always nice to get one over your division rivals but it doesn't have that special feeling for me like United-Liverpool for example.

I used to hate the NFL till I moved to Boston a few years back and started watching the games (3 years ago), hanging out with pats fans and watching as they won the superbowl following Butler's INT.

Their love the team and the sport was infectious, and it also helped that Moyes and LvG were making our games difficult to watch. Before i knew it, I was hooked on to the NFL and the pats every weekend.

I've been lucky in that the 3 major sport franchises (San Antonio Spurs/Pop, Pats/BB and of course MUFC/SAF) I support have/had great coaches build a team for years.

I fear how the spurs and Pats will cope when Pop and BB retire. Going by how things went with United, I just hope and pray that they have a better succession plan in place that we did.

Spurs are the best-run sports organization in all of professional sports, I think they'll cope better than United who weren't prepared for life after SAF at all.

But let's keep this thread about the NFL :D

Indeed and scary to think that I wouldn't be surprised if TB and BB go BB (bye bye) at the same time :(

Disappointed to see Sky now having exclusive rights to the Super Bowl rather than it being shared with the BBC. So instead of the superb Mike Carlson we have to suffer Neil Reynolds, Kevin Cadle et al.

The Tom Brady Family Guy episode played a big part for me.

Then Super Bowl 46 was the first one I watched properly. And I was like, so that's Tom Brady. And I thought he was awesome. So they became my team.

I think that season of Hard Knocks made the Texans a lot of people's second team.

Yeah that's certainly possible, I haven't watched any other seasons besides that one and the Rams did year which wasn't really that interesting.

All Or Nothing was brilliant as well though, I have to admit. Chances are I'd be a Cardinals fan right now if I saw that one first.

Picked a relentless winner in the Chicago Bulls didn't I? So naturally took on the rest of that city, which for most part of the decade was horrendous, with pretty much only a Superbowl MVP to show for it, but the Blackhawks and Cubs came good eh?!

Not sure why people would have such insanely spread teams really.

Certainly was. Any news on who is doing it this year? I heard it was the cardinals again (which would be very interesting because it'd be good to see how they changed this year and also since they've by all accounts underperformed this year).

Yea I loved All or Nothing too, much the same as the Texans Hard Knocks.

Without a doubt.

And probably why ain't nobody like the Rams too.

 also yes

We've got a new lad in the office so me and my colleague who is a Steelers fan have told him he needs to get into NFL.

He's a Miami Heat fan so we've made him adopt the Dolphins

I also heard that yes, would indeed be cool to see them dealing with adversity after such a succesful season last year.

The eight picks for a new Hard Knocks are released as well (you're not eligible if you've been on the show in the last decade, if you've been to the playoffs in one of the previous two years or if you have a new head coach). I think there where eight teams left, Browns and Bucs amongst others. I'd like either one of those teams to feature tbh.

EDIT: it's Ravens, Bears, Browns, Titans, Colts, Buccaneers, Saints and Eagles apparently. Other teams can volunteer of course but I don't think that'll happen.

Met them a few weeks ago, well Neil and Jeff and Shaun Gayle. Won a competition to be part of sky sports Thanksgiving games audience. It was interesting... We had mixed messages whether or not we were allowed to make any noise in the studio so most of us sat there not knowing how much we could participate etc… i've got a photo but cannot work out how to post it at the minute from my phone!

I wish the Broncos would do Hard Knocks to be honest, although maybe not with a new head coach.
