Three games ahead in the division. If we blow it now, we don't deserve a playoff spot.

The coolest part about this season so far has been the fact that everyone thought we'd make it because of our weak division. Only one of our five wins came against the division so far. Our one loss was an overtime loss. We've beaten the second place team in the NFC South, NFC North, and AFC North.

Also we're just now getting our best receiver back. Life as a 49er fan is actually pretty good for the first time in a long time.

Exactly. Never thought I'd see it with alex smith at QB I have to admit but I am not complaining. Lets just get to the play-offs and then take it one game at a time.

Just a heads up, Stanford @ USC is on ESPN America in one hour. Andrew Luck vs Matt Barkley, the two best QBs in college football and guaranteed the first 2 QBs taken next year, could even be the number 1 and 2 draft picks if QB needy teams are in those positions.

What's up with the Saints, losing to the Rams!

Colts 0-8, Manning should be MVP without even playing a game - Caldwell needs to go.

Ended up being a very exciting games, thought Luck showed a lot of maturity to come back and lead Stanford to the win after throwing that INT towards the end.

Love the overtime shoot-out scenario in college football as well, makes for an exciting finish.

Vikings win today. Eeexcellent. Rookie quarterbacks squaring off, Cam plays better, Ponder + AP get the win. Great game. Next is bye week, then Packers at Lambeau. Not much hope for that one, to be honest. But one can hope.

I'm very impressed by Cam Newton, he's very accomplished for a rookie and although on the surface the Panthers don't seem much better they look a world away from last year. Obviously Cam shows his inexperience, the two fumbles today for instance but he makes his team play, if he got a bit more discipline and support from his team they'd be winning all of these close games. It will be interesting to see if he can develop on this year.

good grief the Patriots pass defense is pitiful. 3 years and still no solution from Belichick

Steelers D has played well & they've been able to control the game by keeping Brady off the field. I was hoping the pass defense would improve but teams are passing us to death, Big Ben with 350+ yards so far.

What's happened to Woodhead?

Wanted a hail mary, end with a safety.

Edit: Troy P. clearly punches the ball to the end-zone for the safety so why was that not ruled to be some sort of cheating move?

Great comback by the Ravens but did Boldin save Flacco's arse or what...

Suck it Tebow

His team was shit and so was he

I knew it was going to be a good day when Stafford pass to Titus Young in the endzone with the closest Bronco being 20 yards away

why the tebow hate? no one expected him, or the broncos under him, to be any good. his 15 minutes are up. nothing to get yourself wound up over...unless you're a lions fan.

Well, I am a Lions fan, but even if I wasn't, I still would enjoy seeing Tebow fail. Its not healthy, I am aware of that, but there aren't too many athletes today I hate as much as Tebow. He never played for a rival team, or said anything against one of my teams, but I just find him irritating. That's partly done to his own actions (Jesus freak) and partly out of his hands (media's treatment, although I have sure he reveals in it and is a great self-promoter). Last week's media love just made it worse, and today was a nice ass whooping that should bring a little sense to everyone.

I am only really just starting to get into NFL and really enjoying it. Felt sorry for TEBOW, coaching team has to take a dunt for that. You have a new QB, surely you run fast, short cross routes throwing game, to help him out a bit.

As for me, I for some reason have become a Vikings fan(lot of Viking connections in Scotland I suppose) and think Adrian peterson is a freak!! Jebus, how good is that guy. Do have a soft spot for the Lions though, Megatron as a WR. Awesome.

gbary - I don't understand how you reside in Dallas, root for the Mavericks and Rangers, but somehow you're a Packers fan. Smells of a bandwagon fan. Do explain, por favor? :)

BTW Tebow fans, do expect more of this type of performance. And don't lay all the blame on the O-line. His penchant to windup his passes and to hold the ball long will result in more sacks. That's his own doing not the O-line. That's not giving the O-line a free pass - it's not good there and needs to be addressed in the offseason. Tebow is not an NFL QB. End of.

Tebow is popular because he was the golden child coming into Florida, appears to be the good boy role model (squeaky clean as AI would say), and his religious convictions give millions of "Christian" Americans a hard-on/wet panties. If he were a Muslim or Buddhist he wouldn't be such the media darling. Let us not forget this guy preaches his religion around the country and has been recorded in his preaching telling the people they will go to hell if they do not accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

BTW, I think the NFL needs to alter that rule on replay challenges and replays inside the final two minutes. Technically speaking, the Steelers safety in the final moments was a "scoring play" and occurred due to an illegally batted forward ball. That should result in a penalty against Pittsburgh and possession to New England (how the refs missed it - happened too fast?). But the rules say the play cannot be reviewed as it wasn't on the actual "scoring play" nor can a play be overturned by a missed penalty non-call. But this isn't a penalty committed when engaging with an opponent - it's a penalty committed on the ball and therefore should be treated differently.

Polamalu broke the rule and ended any chance New England had of winning. It probably wouldn't have mattered in the end but the NFL needs to have rules for situations like that.

BANDWAGON?? BITE YOUR TONGUE!! well i guess you could say it's true...jumped on the bandwagon when i was 10...47 years ago. didn't know football at all, bought some football cards and a Packer (Paul Hornung) was the top card. they had a G on their helmet (my name is Gary), liked their colors, they were from Green Bay (GB...my initials). dumb kids stuff. been a Packers fan ever since. been to Lambeau many times! we moved to texas (from colorado) when i was 16. back then there was no baseball, basketball, hockey in colorado so the other teams i adopted as they came along. Bruins in '70 (ignored the stars when they showed up), Rangers in '72, Mavs in '80, United when they showed up on tv here in '03-'04. so there ya have it.

no flag was thrown for the batted ball. penalties aren't reviewed either. didn't pay that much attention at the time but they didn't review it to see if it was a td?

You're an old fella! So you were around during the Lombardi days - were the games televised nationally?

I grew up in the 80s, big Danny White fan, didn't know about hockey until the early 90s (and became a Stars fan when they relocated), used to go watch Nolan Ryan pitch 2-3x per year when he signed with the (woeful) Rangers, and was a Magic Johnson fan though I wanted to see the local team win just not when up against the Lakers. I didn't become a footy fan until the 94 World Cup.

In baseball, I rooted for the Rangers but also took interest in many other clubs. I guess you would call me a fan of the game versus a particular team. I loved the history of the sport, the nuances, the stats, etc. And I would watch 2-4 games every day during summer break unless I was visiting or living near my friends (we would often play homerun derby; I moved around often as a kid). In those days, the Braves and Cubs were always on television and I would often catch the Rangers at night. And on weekends there were the CBS/NBC games and then ESPN started showing games. Baseball was my life in those days.

It was reviewed to ensure the Steelers player did not gain possession in the end zone, which he did not. The analysts were calling out the illegal act committed by Polamalu and mentioning rules don't allow that to be overturned even though it is an illegal act.

they were on tv a lot back then (at least in colorado they were). they were champions afterall and got lots of attention. we saw nfl cames on channel and afl games on another. sometimes there were two games per channed per day. lots of broncos games on nbc then. i remember watching the ice bowl on tv. the great ray scott called the Packers games on tv. as for the Rangers...went to tons of games at the old arlington stadium. seats were cheap in the outfield.

Yep. We almost always sat in the outfield, usually around RF. I was at one game when Nolan had one out in the 9th and Mike Heath got a hit to end a no-hit bid. We were pissed off. Another game Nolan set a record for getting a win against all 26 clubs (since surpassed with expansion). But the biggest game I attended was against the A's when Nolan got his 5000th strikeout. I remember being offered like a hundred bucks to scalp my ticket but I chose not too. I was 13 and my friend's dad took us to the game. We had tickets over near the third base line. We actually appeared in the Nolan Ryan's 'Feel the Heat' video. I'm simply holding up my arm and doing the #1 sign after he got his strikeout. We noticed it was us due to the homemade signs by fans sitting around us.

We used to give Albert "Joey" Belle shit (he was as racist as they come IMO). Also loved to heckle Eckersley. During the Ryan 5000 K game, all the kids were receiving autographs from the players and Eck motioned towards us that he'd come over after he warmed up. He later came over to a group of kids, me included, to sign autographs we presumed only to sit his cup down and walk away. Even the adults booed him for that arrogant shit. I did get Honeycutt and a few other lesser knowns to sign autographs. Canseco was tossing balls to the crowd - say what you will about he man but he was very gracious to the fans.

ahh the danny white days. actually liked the 'boys a bit in those days. once jones showed up that ended. lots of baseball on then with the superstations and espn.

I see much of White in Romo. Danny was a top tier QB in those days just had a penchant for throwing picks. Romo is very similar - puts up the stats but can't get the big win. I can only imagine how Danny's legacy would have unfolded had it not been for "The Catch." No doubt that Dallas would have beaten the Bengals and White might have been the MVP in that game. Most think Clark's TD was the final play or next to final play when the Boys actually drove down-field only for White to fumble during a sack and cost Dallas a FG shot. Pearson almost scored right away but a horse collar tackle (then legal) saved a miracle winning TD for Dallas. I was five years old so I didn't see this game but have watched replays since.

 great stuff! my stepson and i were there the 5000k night too. thirdbase side. you guys must be close in age (30 next year). never saw a nolan no-hitter in person. saw other Ranger milestones though. first grand slam, first double-header win (on farm and ranch night). lots of bad ball back in the beginning.

yup...you're right about that!! romo reminds me of brett some too for some of the same reasons.

I still say Ruben Sierra was robbed of the MVP in 1989. Such a shame he got into the heavy lifting (and roids probably) and lost his bat speed. The guy was an immense player early in his career.

I recall a game-winning homerun off Clemens in the 9th inning one year (think it was Palmeiro). Sierra also had a walk-off homer against the Blue Jays I think. I really thought that 1989 squad was finally going to win the division (they started out really hot, like 20-10 or something). But per the norm pitching stunk it up.

I grew up a Pete O'Brien fan and cried when he was traded. I also remember hearing about them trading Alvarez and Sosa for Harold Baines. I couldn't believe it. "Who the feck is Harold Baines," I remember uttering multiple times. And I remember the Canseco trade thinking, "Huh?" Surely he was destined for a bigger club I felt.

roids? sierra? i don't really think so. juan gonzales? probably. palmero? for sure! those teams were good but couldn't bet past the yankees. sierra was one of my favorites. the great pete o'brien! wasted more time adjusting, tightening, and moving things around, between pitches than anyone in baseball history.

 You two. You're talking about an era much before my time, but I can still remember the 90s when our three teams were on top. We're getting close to seeing that again for the first time in a while. I suppose it'll be a pleasure to make the playoffs and lose to the Packers in Green Bay again.

I still contend the 49ers cheated and broke the cap in 1994 in order to beat Dallas. Of course the NFL said they cheated the cap in a later year (96/97 time-frame) but we all know the NFL will not admit wrongdoing by a championship winning club as it could threaten the league (see Spygate - we all know those films were destroyed to cover the truth ;)).

But I miss those days from 92-96.

Hey we paid the price for being way the feck over the cap later by having to cut everybody that ever meant anything to the team.

Watching Jerry Rice play for the Raiders sucked.

At first I was reluctant but now I have decided NFL Redzone changed my life.

Jveezy, every time they cut to your game it was to show offensive and defensive lineman catching the ball. Was it only twice, Staley and the DT? I’m guessing the DT was lined up as a fullback?
