feckin Grbac. If he had stuck around with the Niners for a few more years he might've been able to take over for Steve Young.

He was in SF for four years and Young didn't appear to be nearing retirement anytime soon (and only did so in 1999/2000 after yet another concussion). I can't blame him for seeking a starting position elsewhere. He's not Babayaro or Cudicini after all. ;)

I mean I just don't think he was quite ready yet. He was a solid, reliable backup but I don't think he was ready for the jump when he signed with KC.

You know Steve Young wanted out of SF for a couple seasons because he was sick of backing up Montana and wanted to start. But SF wouldn't trade him and paid him a million bucks to backup Joe (Steve was the highest paid backup QB in the league then and paid as well as many starters at the time). Fortunately for Steve, Joe injured his elbow and missed two seasons allowing Steve to prove himself. If Joe had never crocked his elbow and remained as a starter, there's no doubt Steve would have left eventually, surely no later than 1993 with full free agency around.

Yeah especially in the first quarter. Those flags came flying from all over the place. Good game though.

I missed that part but it looked really bad at first when I showed up. I don't know if we're particularly stopping the Detroit offense as much as we're coming up with disruptive plays at the right time. They're cutting off the big play and then managing to get at least one stop here and there to shut down drives.

On offense we're not doing too terribly, but we need to quit ending our own drives.

Edit: And we play Seattle every year. We shouldn't be having trouble with the noise no matter how loud Ford Field gets.

Edit: And feck me we need to quit dropping passes.

I've only seen highlights of Alex Smith but he looks a different QB this season - much better than what I saw of him last season.

I love our special teams so much. ha_rooney part of Smith's resurgence has had to do with the defense and special teams giving the offense a shorter field to work with. Even when we get pinned back, having Andy Lee to fire off 60 yard punts is instrumental in getting field position in our favor. The crazy thing about Alex Smith is that he's always been fantastic in the red zone. His problem in the past is that he's had such a hard time getting there with drives getting cut short by PENALTIES (HINT HINT feckIN HINT, NINERS) and poor execution.

49ers have the lead!

Edit: being reviewed.

TD given but plenty of time left.

4th down for the Lions...

Don't get it! Why not punt it with the 3 TOs?

You have the ball. I think you have to go for it. Gore and Hunter have been running roughshod over the Lions D so I think they didn't expect to get it back.

You never know, they've given up the FG as a result of the short-field & now need the TD.

Pats defense has started well, an interception and sack on Romo on 2 drives.

Edit: Brady intercepted again this season, he's past it :wenger:

Edit 2: Looks like Pats D will give him the ball back. I love the all-action on RedZone.

Lions beaten, you must be delighted jveezy.

Are the coaches fighting?

Not very professional :nono:

Game. Good stuff in terms of defensive play. Lions never really woke up while niners completely disrupted the game. That last minute was rather meh Lions' from the offense.

fecking Pats turn the ball over again.

Edit: defense doing it in the Pats game, turnovers from both sides & two very good redzone stops from the Patriots defense.

The Patriots have been error-ridden on all apects of the game so far this season. Very un-Belichick like.

That's a huge win going into the bye week. This was our big test this season. Everyone picked us to make the playoffs but that was on the basis of our poor division. Now we're 5-1 and only one of those wins came within the division. Here's our remaining schedule:

Cleveland
at Washington
Giants
Arizona
at Baltimore on Thanksgiving
St. Louis
at Arizona
Pittsburgh
at Seattle
at St. Louis

 Harbaugh getting a little too excited. I'm not surprised that he's managed to rub someone the wrong way by now.

facking Brady INT again, making bad decisions this year. Need the defense to step up.

What is the point of Ochocinco? Barely featured this year and it takes away the option of the deep threat we had when Moss was with Brady. Cowboys are doing a good job on Welker.

Another good defensive stand restricts them to a FG. Defense is doing it in this game for the Pats.
