Nfl 2010-2011

Now Jerry Jones has to start thinking seriously about going for Mankins. That O-line was atrocious at times. Romo better have some good health insurance.

Great throw by Kolb, Eagles respond with a TD.

Smith goes for the hollywood pass, intercepted.

49ers defence force a turnover, chance for a few more points before HT

HT 17-10 Eagles. The 49ers have shot themselves in the foot, they play well for a few downs and then they do something stupid. Yet, they're only 1 TD behind.

McCoy moves well for someone with a cracked rib.

My commiserations, jveezy, on a thoroughly miserable franchise right now. Singletary and Smith must be on their last legs.

Brilliant drive from Smith....he has good potential and will get better with experience.

That's what I keep saying, but when you say that for six years straight and he's still making rookie mistakes, it's hard for people to take you seriously. It's hard to take yourself seriously.

I'm glad he didn't give up his job without a fight though.

I reckon Smith did enough to buy himself another half of football as a starter. Don't know whose position is more perilous now, his or Singletary.

Smith was brilliant and poor. SF fans should take heart from the fact that the poor plays were a result of poor decision making which can be coached and will improve with experience. It wasn't a result of lack of ability.

What he needs now is the support of coaches and fans alike.

Yes but hasn't he had to work with a new offensive coach every season? The whole SF franchise has not been stable during those years and its difficult for a young QB with limited offensive weapons around him.

Well yeah. That's the excuse we've given for six years. And that's legitimate. I can't fault him for any of that. Thing is though for this year and last year he's moved past that. The problem isn't that he hasn't grasped the offense anymore. The problem is that he keeps making crippling mistakes. Yeah every quarterback does that, but Smith is just clockwork when it comes to those things. This year he has his weapons and he has his o-line and he has his continuity and he's still doing those things. And then he'll put together stretches of brilliance and come up just short (he did the same a few times last year too. It's a recurring theme) to make you believe there's something there all over again and forget everything that happened before.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him go somewhere else next year and put up spectacular numbers. That's the crazy thing. You look at the guy and you see his work ethic and personality and can't help but believe he'll make it eventually. But after telling yourself that over and over again and slowly eliminating any possible excuse he can use, the question becomes how long you want to wait. Most people have already given up. I don't even know where I stand anymore. I don't know what to believe.

Such a shame 49ers management refused to trade for McNabb when the deal was there, instead sticking with Smith. Someone should lose their job over that bonehead decision. Now I have to sit here and watch those fecking deadskins lead the division because they have a QB while the 49ers sit at 0-5 (not that I'm a 49ers fan but I'd rather they were 3-2 and Washington 0-5).

Wade Phillips is a lame duck now, that's assuming he wasn't since taking over. The Cowboys lack discipline and have no offensive or defensive identity it seems. The coaching staff can't make in-game adjustments and the team appears to be a squad of quality talent that can't find a way to be cohesive. Romo is looking like just another good stat happy QB that won't ever get "it" done, like Danny White or Neil Lomax or Jay Cutler (granted he's better than Cutler and Lomax, and probably White too). A change is needed though I don't think doing it mid-season will change things, especially if it's only Garrett moving up. Bringing in Cowher or Gruden would make a big difference but does Jerry really want another "my way" coaching hire? He ran Parcells out of town because he doesn't like the coach to have the final say and have a bigger persona.

Are you maybe lashing out at the 49ers and Redskins for the Cowboys losing...just maybe :p

That should be obvious that I, a Cowboys fan, dislike the Redskins with a passion akin to a Manc hating a Scouser. And it sucks even more so that Washington is managing to win games despite being a below average team. It's basically down to McNabb and opponents making ridiculous mistakes. They may be the worst 3-2 in league history. The 49ers are only connected because they refused a trade for McNabb thus allowing Washington to step in. That offense would be woeful if McNabb were elsewhere.

My point was that the reaction was because Cowboys are 1-3. If they were say 4-0, you wouldn't really care about what McNabb was doing at the Redskins. Redskins will not win the division or conference...does it really matter ?

In fact its good for the Cowboys that Redskins are more competitive and will keep the division wide open. Having one runaway winner would not have helped any other team in this division.

Negative. I dislike the Redskins and usually laugh at them while they're sucking and moan when they're doing good. They're the rival - just like Liverpool is for United and we always have an opinion about them. I didn't like it when McNabb was traded and felt he was the sort of presence at QB they needed, and with Shanahan and a last place schedule they could turn it around quick. I also had serious questions about Dallas before the season began and the 1-3 start may shock some but doesn't shock me.

Redskins could very well win the division, they already beat your shit team and have a 2-0 division record. ;)
