Nfl 2008-2009

Alex how can you still try and downplay how good a quarterback Brady is, especially in comparison to Manning? He constantly outplayed him in the big playoff games for years and when Manning finally beat him in the AFC championship game it was more because of a meltdown by the Pats. I add, Brady was doing this with scrub recievers like David Givens all that time (although a better defence) while he had the likes of Wayne and Harrison. When Brady finally got some weapons we all know what happened. They are both excellent and probably top ten already with Brady ahead at the moment for me. If he would have finished the job last year and won his fourth Superbowl the idiots in the press would have probably been placing him alongside Montana.

The Colts have had meltdowns as well so why do NE get the free pass there? And what if SD had a healthy Rivers, Gates and Tomlinson last year - they'd have beaten NE in the AFC championship game.

Marino is still the best in my book, though I never saw Unitas play. Put Marino in SF and he'd have won multiple SBs. Montana most likely wouldn't have won a single SB in Miami.

San Diego are a bunch of bottlers(LT above all, lacks the heart when the going gets tough). They`re not winning anything any time soon. And besides, everyone is dinged up to some extent in the playoffs. Everyone.

If Denver keep giving up 400+ yards on defense per game they'll get slaughtered in the playoffs against a quality defense that will limit their offense.

New Orleans hasn't a chance to win the NFC if they meet a NFC East foe in the playoffs. I can't see that NO's D containing Dallas or Philly while those two plus NYG have the quality on defense to contain NO. They already lost to the 4th best team in the East (Washington).

That was a one off; we had that game in control and let it slip away. Admittedly, our defense isn't that great, but our best corners (Mckenzie and randall gay) and key linebacker Scott fujita are banged up and the d played very well against the bucs. Our offense will only get better as deuce mcallister's health improves. I was exagerrating with the superbowl predicition, but the saints should make the playoffs.

Neither did Marino, I would take Joe or Elway over Marino anyday; Elway would have won 5+ Superbowls had he been in SF

Yeah Denver's pass D has been awful, which mainly comes down to the fact that they constantly only blitzed three men giving the opposition QB tons of time to pick them apart. I have thought the run D has been decent, they got two big stops yesterday, but yeah the passing D has been worrying.

In regards to Aikman yeah he was the most accurate I have seen

Meltdowns when, in the playoffs? I was talking about against the Pats in the 24-14 game in 2004 and the 21-6 game in 2005 when the Colts offense did well throughout the seasons. It was more Belichick confusing Manning in certain situations by doing things like only having one or two down lineman and him having a penchant for throwing the ball near Ty Law. I class the last one as a meltdown because we had a 20-6 lead at half time after Manning threw a pick six to Samuel. The defence aged before everyone's eyes in the second half and having Eric Alexander playing linebacker did not help. That together with Reche Caldwell dropping easy catches at crucial points in the game led to the Colts coming through. The thing is, I think Manning is a great quarterback I have just not seen a playoff run that could compare to Brady's Colts - Steelers - Eagles one for example.

Nobody can be sure if SD would have won that game, the Pats had injuries as well to players like Hobbs and the foot injury which limited Brady through the Superbowl and pre season occured in the second quarter. LT could have helped in the red zone though, no doubt.

As for Marino, I would say he is the best pure pocket passer yeah. However, it comes down to winning above all else, irrespective of one having a Jerry Rice etc. Montana did that in their Superbowl and came through in the clutch situation too many times to mention. Look at Favre, he has all the records and a Superbowl but hardly comes into the discussion for many because of the bad things that come with him.

People forget Marino had Clayton and Duper to throw to in his prime, both excellent receivers

And that's all he had, and neither were as good as Rice nor did that duo have anything on Rice and Taylor. Never had a running game, defense was often middle of the pack or worse. Miami choked a few times when they were clearly the class of the AFC (1985, 1992).

Who does?

31-17 Saints dominated the forty-niners. Such a fun game. Especially the tailgaters at the Superdome handing out beers before the game. They all deserve thanks and praise for helping me get drunk before the game today. Things are looking up for the saints. Deuce is fecking back and still as rapetastic as ever. Lance Mohr and Robert Meachem are coming up big in the absence of colston and shockey. I still think the saints could beat any of those over-hyped nfc east teams during the regular season and playoffs.

That game was like a kick in the crotch for us 49ers fans. Way to show the world how good J.T. O'Sullivan really is.

jveezy how long does it take to drive to San Luis Obispo from LA?

Man do I hate watching the Broncos play at Arrowhead they always seem to play poor their, regardless of how crap the Chiefs are

This was an interesting week of games, the Cowboys are clearly as talented as anyone but deep down I dont think that they are gonna do anything in the playoffs.

On a side note Favre through 6 TDs today, that is impressive

Well I would suppose about four hours, but the first (and only) time I tried to do it I got stuck on the 405 just north of LAX and it ended up taking about 7 hours. Google Maps says 3 hours 22 minutes.

Nice, I think I am gonna go up there and meet one of my uncles later this year

Yeah it's pretty awesome here. It's not even remotely busy in town anywhere not near the university but it's a great place to relax for a little bit. About ten minutes away from Pismo Beach or Morro Bay. The weather is certainly awesome.

Yeah I looked a climate map for it and it was unreal, the average temp varies less than 10 degree over the course of the whole year

Dallas needs a better coach than good ole Wade

What I don't understand is that the running game was struggling early and not once did Felix Jones get the ball on offense. He's the one that can stretch defenses. One move and he can break a game open.

The biggest mistake was late in the game when Washington called a timeout on 3rd-and-short o/a the Dallas 40. The Boys then stopped Portis for no gain which would have forced a punt with about 6 minutes remaining. But hold up... penalty on Dallas... too many men on the field. After a fecking timeout and you get that ridiculous penalty? Jimmy Johnson would have gone ballistic on the sidelines. Wade just has this "I can't believe it" look on the sideline. So instead of forcing a punt and having plenty of time to come down and take the lead (down 23-17) you now allow Washington to get two more first downs, drain some 3-4 additional minutes off the clock and kick a field goal making it a two score game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - lack of discipline and attention to detail is what will keep this from being a SUPER season.

BTW, I thought Austin had that onside kick in real time. That close to grabbing it in air. I just knew there was no way it would work a second year in a row (Buffalo).

I hope that little comment helped you wipe away the tears of that loss to the chiefs. :smirk:

It's wierd how a player goes from being a career backup quarterback to a decent nfl qb after having only a couple good games. It's ridiculous. He was third string when he played for the saints.

Did anyone else see Jankowski try in kick a 76 yard FG, hahahaha what the hell it's the Raiders, I wouldnt ever try something like that outside of Denver, where there air is thinner and much drier

I wonder if Lane Kiffin was just trying to piss off Al Davis with that kick. Either way Kiffin is gone and Al Davis says he will not pay out the rest of Kiffin's contract.

The whole Raider situation is hilarious to me. Al Davis just wants to stroke his own cock with his power and beat Lane Kiffin into submission and credit to Kiffin for standing his ground and not letting Davis bully him.

Commitment to excellence my ass.

Davis has been like this for years, he has been acting like a nutjob since he didnt get a new stadium in LA and decided to move the team back to Oakland, I mean ffs what pro team would rather share the Bay Area as opposed to staying in Los Angeles I mean the Colosieum is better than where they play in Oakland

Holy shit does Davis look bad at that press conference he is literally decaying

MrMarcello, how is Zach Thomas doing, the Pats were supposed to be interested in him as well.

I thought he would have been done after all the concussions.

Is he on the field on obvious passing downs?

He's doing quite well. Still pretty quick. Helps that he's got two great pass rushing OLBs and a monster MLB next to him. I've seen him play on some passing downs and has even covered TEs and RBs out of the back. Don't recall him getting burned too bad though I'm sure he's been beat a time or two. Good signing despite his age. I haven't noticed any post-concussion issues so far and he took a good lick once but got right up. He'll probably lead the squad in tackles or be in the top two or three. IMO he's not what NE needed since they're already a bit old on defense but his experience is perfect for Dallas.

I cant believe Thomas has made it this long talk about a guy with no talent or size, but as much heart and work ethic as just about anybody

Yeah your probably right, I was kind of against it for the same reason. Good player though.

Jerod Mayo is looking like the real deal at the moment, the injection of speed and athleticism the defence has needed for years. Will be good to see how he compares to Patrick Willis this weekend.

No talent? He obviously has talent. Quick, strong, great agility, just not some massive MLB like Lewis. But he's had and still has loads of talent, obviously. A player doesn't make it in the NFL for a dozen years without talent.

Are you trying to say he has a speck of talent considered to Lewis, Ray Lewis has more talent than Thomas has over his whole body. He is quick, but is the size of a 1970s-80s LB, he wouldnt have made it with hard work. Where as Lewis will probably be a first ballot HOF and spends his offseason time killing people

What the feck are you on about? You completely lost me here. Where did I compare him to Lewis?

BTW, Thomas will be HOFer as well.

Thomas a HOF give me a break, Randy Gradisher isnt a HOF and Thomas isnt fit to wear his jock strap. You made it sound like Lewis is just some big MLB and that is all he is, in his prime he probably was the best defensive player since Lawrence Taylor, along with Bruce Smith

Jesus Christ drama queen. I simply said Zach isn't a big MLB like Lewis. FFS get a fecking grip. Both are at the top of their position during this era. You come across as some bitter fan that hates Zach Thomas for some odd reason. The guy is class, extremely talented and definitely a great player, regardless of his size or perceived lack of "talent."
