Nfl 2008-2009

The Giants certainly look the best team in teh NFL, I stated this on here right before they got shitcanned by Cleveland earlier in the year haha. They have it all good D, can run the ball and can pass the ball, and decent special teams, usually a good way to win games

Keyser, I have just get back home, how has the game been so far?

Was a close back and forth game Muller, until Faulk just created some breathing room with a good TD run.

Moss and Welker are playing well as is the defense against the run.

Pennington has been annoyingly good and accurate as he always is against the Pats.

The Jets are beating the undefeated Titans though at the moment.

O dear, naughty Matt Light.. A fine is just about to come his way I am sure..

Half the distance to the goal foul on the 2 yard line.. O dear..

The Titans are going to lose, down 34-13 to the Jets, they were easily the worst 10-0 football team I have ever seen

John Henderson was fined only $10,000 for trying to pull someone's eyes out so I am not 100% sure if he will be suspended.

Cassel is going to make some serious change at the end of the season, that is back to back 400 yard games.

If he carries this on franchising him, taking the cap hit and then getting something for him in a trade could be an option.

Benjarvis Green-Ellis back in. I love this kid.

Very physical game today, and its not over yet! Could be another couple of big hits too. Interesting schedule coming up too. Make or break game in Pittsburgh next week IMO.

Come on Cassel isnt that good, average at best. The Patriots are probably the best team or second best the NY giants with Brady at the helm, they are no where close with Cassel

Alex, Cassel is not that good for what? I was talking about franchising him in order to trade him instead of losing him for nothing as an unrestricted free agent. Not keeping him over a hall of fame, three time superbowl winning quarterback, on one knee or not.

The way he has been playing a lot of the NFL teams would be interested in him, there are some terrible starting quarterback's in this league. I bet they could get at least a second round pick.

I don't follow the Patriots contract situations too closely but surely they could use the franchise tag on a better player than Cassel. I honestly think a 2nd round pick is stretching it too at this point, we will see how he does in the playoffs if they get there, but at this point he is far from anything special

Don't get me wrong I don't think he is an elite QB or anything and I would have been saying the same as you at the beginning of the season. He just has obvious physical tools, it is a shame he did not get to develop at college or in the NFL until now. Funny that Leinart who beat him out is not playing.

There is nobody else to franchise this year, they try to avoid using it most seasons anyway. As for the pick I think it would be possible, look at what Atlanta got for Matt Schaub who did not have as much impressive playing time as Cassel.

From Wikipedia:

* An "exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount equal to or greater than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which the tag will apply, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. Exclusive franchise players cannot negotiate with other teams.[1]
* A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount equal to or greater than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position in the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

I think it might be worth trying to tag him with the second option. I don't know if any team is desperate enough to give up two first round picks and the tag will cost them around $10 million though.

That;s the thing about franchising him, he will make an average of what the top 10 QBs make that will take a ton of salary cap space for a player who isnt gonna play. Also I dont think you are able to trade a franchised player either, the more I think about it

The second option allows you to let him negotiate with other teams. Really it all depends on how high other teams rate Matt Cassel. They would have to offer him more than that average salary for it to be worth it for him to switch (although he might do it anyways for playing time) and they would also have to believe that he's worth giving up two first round picks. It's not likely, but the better Cassel plays, the more likely it becomes.

The first one would be more likely jveezy, not sure though. Nobody would be silly enough to give two first round picks. I think they would have to already have an unofficial agreement in place with a team before placing one on him.

I am pretty sure trading a franchised player is allowed as well, maybe someone could clear it up. I think Tebucky Jones was franchised by the Pats in 2003 and then traded to New Orleans for a 3rd round pick. They would have to absorb a much bigger cap hit in this situation though, so it would depend on the value of the trade they had in place.

A lot also depends on how comfortable they are with Brady's knee and the infections etc. If they are not 100% sure he will be ready to go at the beginning of the season, O'Connell is not ready and there are no veterans on the market... they would try to keep hold of him for as long as they could. My money would be on Brady starting opening day though.

Cassell is simply putting on a Scott Mitchell showing... the latter replacing an injured Dan Marino in 1993 for 10 games and doing well enough to con the Detroit Lions into pitching him a large contract. Cassell will end up playing for a coach and system not tailored to his limits.

Unbelievable, how did that guy from Arizona drop the onside kick which may have been one of the best I have ever seen, what a waste, could have been an excellent finish

What a play by Manning to Harrison on 4th down, Vinateri better make the FG to ensue

Looks like McNabb is going to be up for grabs after this season reckon more people are interested in him than Cassel

What record will the Pats need to get into the playoffs do you reckon? Top team from each division goes through then its next 2 in conference in Wild Card playoff right? Or next 4?

It is looking like either 10-6 or 11-5 at the moment, I am not quite sure. I think Miami and Buffalo will fall behind and it will be close between the Pats and the Bretts for the division. However, if they finish ahead as they are now I am hoping it will end up like this:

Division winners: Jets, Steelers, Titans and Broncos.

Wild cards: Patriots and Colts.

Once again.. Love you Keyser. I thought 11-5, just hope the Jets feck up at some point, Bretts hip gives way or something.

The Detroit Lions are terrible, just absolutely fecking terrible.

They just allowed Lendale White to run 25 yards on a 3rd and 37 from the 50.

I can't watch anymore, Culpepper looks like he is 300 pounds as well.

Can’t wait, this is always my favourite game, apart from the Jets or Colts obviously. You know what you are going to get with the Steelers, the way they play never changes, though they have not been pounding the ball as much as they would like due to injuries. Dick LeBeau’s defense is consistently one of the best in the league and I think they are on top in nearly every category once again including red zone conversions, which is our weakness. Usually enjoy watching Brady pick apart all their different looks/ blitzes, in fact I think the best performance of his career came against them in the 2004 AFC championship game.

Think this will come down to the trenches and which teams lines play the best, we have both given up the same amount of sacks this season, 35. Run defense is also a strength for both teams and the Steelers opponents are averaging only 2.9 yards per carry. Wilfork, Seymour and Warren will basically have to stop the run by themselves most of the time, with everyone else trying to get to Roethlisberger, if not the Secondary will get burnt. The good thing is that their secondary is banged up as well and if the Pats stop Woodley and Harrison and give Cassel a bit of time, some big plays could be made. It’s a huge test for him, will be interesting to see if McDaniel’s spreads them out with four wide receiver sets as he would with Brady back there.

I hope Mayo keeps his head on a swivel with Hines Ward headhunting linebackers out there as well, do not want him suffering the same fate as Rivers! Got to love the way Ward plays though, every fan would love him if he played for their team.

Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg at a club last night hahahhahaha
