Oh come on, he used us to get a new deal. If it was genuine, he would refuse any contract offer.

We used each other. It was great work from the club.

They wanted De Gea on the cheap so we worked alongside Ramos and his agent brother to link the deals together.

He's a fan favourite and was set to be their captain so it would have been hell for Perez if he sold him to us. We bid €50m and they said he's worth double that to them. That gave us a strong position with De Gea as we could use that as a reference to his value. "You value Ramos at €100m and are not going to bludgeon that, we value De Gea in excess of double what you have bid so I'm sure you can understand why we will not change our position."

What does Ramos get out of playing along with us and declaring through the press that he is set on joining us? He gets his value set by Madrid. He goes into contract negotiations saying "You value me as a €100m player, now pay me accordingly."

So who gained out of this?

United use him as a reference in the De Gea deal and are able to use their valuing and posturing over his transfer against Madrid and tell them to forget getting De Gea on the cheap. We also show Madrid we are not a club to try and bully over transfers. It cost Madrid a shit load of money extra in the Ramos contract negotiations and they'll think twice about taking us on again over one of our players.

Ramos was able to use the figure plucked out of Madrid in negotiations and get paid accordingly.

Madrid had to put their money with their mouth is and pay up for Ramos while they also priced themselves out of a move for De Gea this summer.

so in short, we're signing Neymar?

Great.

Exchange rates stuffing me about. Didn't Bale go for €100m and this bid is reported at around €180m for Neymar? Which is almost double. But I speak under correction.
We offered £100 m for Bale if rumours are to be believed

Agreed, was probably the most blatant use of our name for a new deal in recent years (along with Ronaldo and Alves).

Such a ridiculous rumour. When will we be linked with Suarez?

if thats true whats the point in the clause?
It acts as protection for the club. If Neymar ever wanted to leave then they can insist on the clause being met (providing they wanted to sell, which they don't).

If I recall correctly, they can refuse the money but a judge or the League can validate the end of the contract. But things like that won't happen in a week.

Again, referring to the Ander deal, it didn't take a week.

It was reported by Bilbao on the 26th of June that they had rejected a bid that week from United, then later that night Ander himself deposited the money.

Because Bilbao took the money.

United offered them the amount of the buy out clause, as transfer fee, which they refused.
But they accepted the same amount from the league.

I suppose thats a good point just can't see them refusing that as that would surely make the player extremely angry. Rejecting a bid is one thing, doing it with a release clause is a completely different thing.

I thought Bale went for 100mil pounds. My bad in that case.

fair enough. Can't see that happening as they'd lose anyway and having the player play for you could go against you, plus you'd be losing millions on wages as it gets sorted

Yeah, they'd lose it's just a way to delay the process.

Neymar is a slave basically. Free Neymar..

No worries man. Semantics were discussing anyway! Back to the formations thread (with Neymar in it of course  )

Aye. The most vital thing which is being ignored I feel is what does this mean for Lingard? I think it'll block his progress.

Great to hear that this transfer seems to be progressing as planned, and looks all but confirmed to be in the bag by the end of the month. I think Neymar will be a decent upgrade on Ashley Young, which by no means is an attempt to discredit the latter.

Don't believe any of this crap. Press will come out and say United missed another target, when they probably did not even make a bid.

Nothing on National Geographic yet...
