I think he's well worth the money but...it won't happen, unless Barca are happy to sell him. Read Sid Lowe's article.

Think we'd need to offer him half a million quid a week to get him, surely his pops won't say no to that?

I can believe we've shown interest, and maybe a bid behind scene. What I won't believe is he'll be joining us anytime soon lol.

"Barca star dreams of United"?

Well yes, that rumour had a life of its own. Even Lawrenson briefly discussed Kaka moving to United, on the Beeb. Proof, that we can't believe much written in the tabloids.. Or stuff reported on the likes of SSN.

The worst thing about this is that it would mean The Sun's exclusive turned out to be correct. Sickening.

Would people even want to sign him for the figures being mentioned? I don't normally care about what we end up paying in transfer fees, but 200m odd euros just sounds obscene and I can't even imagine what his wages would look like. I'd rather we sign players who actually want to play for us rather than getting someone to join us by throwing large piles of cash at them.

Neymar is my favourite non-United player by far. I'm very happy that we're linked with him even if it's only Daily Star reporting it and that we have to sell Old Trafford and Woodward's parents and pet dog to fund it. And make him manager so we can love some Brazilians again.

So Neymar's buyout clause is reportedly 190m euros.

The way a buyout clause works, it always favours the selling club, and doesn't exactly force them to sell. Sometimes, when they are willing to sell (as in the Pedro case), it is as simple as paying the agreed fee and agreeing the contract with the player. The agreed fee includes VAT.

However, when the club doesn't want to sell (as presumably in the Neymar case as they have no way of immediate replacemet), they will claim that the VAT is not included. They will also force the buyout rule, whereby the player must pay the fee. This means that the buying club must transfer funds to the player, which then succumbs to tax at 44%.

Therefore, the total fee would be 190m euros + VAT @ 18% + Tax @ 44% = 322m euros (£236m). And that doesn't even include any wages!

The best players in the world don't come cheap.

Peanuts. Get it done Woody.

Spot on.

Not usually a muppet and don't usually believe stories like this but can't help but be roped in by this one :lol: Still can't see why he'd join though. Did actually find it strange how his name was mentioned before the game on Saturday on BT sport, felt if someone on there is saying "they've missed out on pedro but are now being linked to Neymar"(something like that) then there must be something in it as its not usual for these programs to mention a player unless there are heavy links.

The only thing I can think of is that he would enjoy the challenge of being the main man who brought Manchester United back to the level they were with Sir Alex Ferguson. The way he's looked on as the leader of Brazil, the attention and pressure he had surrounding him in the World Cup, maybe he loved it and wants it at club level at one of the biggest in the world who with him could challenge anybody. I'm not saying I believe thats true but if there is one reason I think it could be something like that.

I also remember in the Keane Viera documentary a couple of years back, they were talking about leaving. Keane said "when I club accepts an offer

If this is accurate (I trust it is) than there's even less chance of this happening.

Wrong. Neither us nor Bayern payed more than the release clause for Herrera/Martinez. There are way around not paying taxes although it isn't straightforward and what worked for Bilbao doesn't necessarily work for Barca.

I'm sure there is a way round this to not pay the tax? I don't think we paid it with Herrera.

They aren't this expensive either. Like Ronaldo, Bale, Di Maria etc.

You think we'd have sold Ronaldo for less had we had him now rather than back then? If we had Neymar and barca wanted him, would you settle for less?

It's insane money, don't get me wrong but there is insane more eye in the game now and we are talking about a top 3 player in the world.

Don't confuse this with me thinking this is happening btw. Just saying that if he did move, it would be well in excess of the Bale fee.

Shit Varun, we're talking double world record transfer almost  but hey, it's not our money!!

Double? Bale went for 100mil right? It's a 40% hike on that which is absolutely normal seeing as he's the much better player and the fees are going up every year.

Neymar is (currently) the player most likely to take the Messi/Ronaldo mantle of "best player in the world" once they have declined. He's also young, plays for Barca and is a global superstar.

Of all the problems I have with this bid, the fee itself is by far the least. It's about what I'd have expected.

Can somebody do the t-shirt sales revenue calculations and tell us all by when we can recoup the transfer fee?

I suspect folk are laughing at us.

This.

Agents across the world must be licking their lips about the club's naivety. Mega bids for Bale, Neymar and Muller as if any will come off. It IS funny. It's like when City thought they were getting Kaka at his pre injury best. Its delusional.
