Can anyone actually tell me what went wrong with Neymar and Barcelona. This move literally came out of nowhere. I get the money angle, but surely something must have happened to make Neymar want to leave?
Nope, that family just loves the $$$

The most popular ideas are he will never get the recognition/personal awards he allegedly desires while Messi is about, and that his family have far too much influence on his thought process.

As you say the money is probably a factor as well as well as the possibility of building a club in to global superpower and leaving a legacy across Europe similar to Brazilian Ronaldo......... (the last 2 may be utter nonsense now in fairness :lol:)

Cha Ching! $$$$$$$$$

That and being told that the world will revolve around him

It's that simple really. The Neymar family are football mercenaries

He wants to be top dog, sick of being behind Messi. I don't blame him really.
Err play better then.
When Neymar and Bale and the likes move to these clubs they say they wanna play with the best, then they 'get sick' of it. Footballers are such weirdos.

The Pogba price is increasingly looking a bargain in this market. Mourinho was right months ago when he said this summer would see the transfer record broken in a way that would make Pogba's fee seem paltry.

True and I didn't quite believe it when he said it.

At the moment, bearing Barcelona needs along with Madrid chasing Mbappe, Pogba fee is extremely likely to be broken at least two more times this summer. Insane.

What a way to waste a career. He could have become a great of the game at Barcelona, instead he's going to go and waste his best years in a second rate league. Madness, all because he didn't want to wait a year or two for Messi to start slowing down.

Messi owns Barca. The second Neymar ever looked close to eclipsing Messi, I'm sure the latter would have wanted Neymar gone anyway.

He has performed very well, but Barcelona is Messi atm and vice versa. Where ever they promote themselves and everything it will be Messi first. Within PSG Neymar has the opportunity to be rise on the level of Ronaldo and Messi worldwise not only within Selecao or South America.

Once again, was like that before and is now. Everyone and their dog knew this. Was he expecting something else, do you think?

Even I now think the transfer market has gone mad - and still think it's laughable that Neymar wants to play in that Mickey Mouse league. Even more of a stroll than Spain

As hilarious as this all is, I don't really want Neymar to leave Barcelona.

If it was about proving himself as the best and not just money, he'd move to United or just any other serious league where he can still showcase his skills. Not a joke in France.

Yes that rubbish Spanish league whose teams have dominated European competitions for the last five years and have a dominant record over English opposition.

Squeaky-bum time now at Liverpool, Juventus and Dortmund (you'd imagine) if Barcelona have a £250m warchest to dip into...

Do they though? If they are smart about it half of it will be used to balance the books.

How can you call the PL a serious league compared to France when we have been such a joke in Europe this decade? La Liga to France is one thing but I do hate when people get high and mighty about the PL Vs France when our team's haven't exactly been better than the likes of Monaco and PSG in recent years.

not exactly...
French higher rate tax is 45% (anything over around 150k euros)
There is then the french NI equivalent around 13.5%
and there is also a 1.8% wealth tax for people with over 16m in assets which I assume neymar also has
so more like 60% tax
so £650k pre tax is actually more like £1.625m a week or £84.5m a year
if the 650k is euros (thats what o read but hey websites and papers seem to interchange pound and euros all the time) then its around £1.45m a week at todays rate or around £75m a year
That's five times more than we paid Rooney. Absolute madness.

Apparently Neymar was very close to joining Manchester United. Feck, that would've been the most muppetastic signing although looking at his past, he could have just as easily been another Di Maria.

Barca and Madrid dominating Europe has nothing to do with how strong La Liga is or isn't. It's because they've both had two of the best players in the planet, and two of the best of all time, pulling up ridiculous statistics for them. When those two properly decline, then we'll see who dominates.

If we hadn't spent on other players, I think we could've actually put a deal together for Neymar. Unfortunately we have too many areas that need strengthening just to focus on one player, however good he is.

True true. Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Liverpool. Such a crap league. Compared to the two clubs in France who only play decent opponents in the champions league.

It's over double the current record. As good as Neymar is I'm not sure he's worth the risk TBH. His wages also would be almost double our next highest, it's just insane for 1 player.

Given how his father/agent behaves every summer, I am glad he didn't come.

Great player but no player should be bigger than the club.

weird saying that considering PSG never even won the league last season. do you consider the german and italian leagues as mickey mouse as well as 2 teams have dominated them lately ?

More from Barca, Termination Clause all €222M buy out clause must be paid up front, as per his contract

What about Atletico, and Sevilla in the Europa?

But when you add the fact that Atletico have reached the finals twice recently and Sevilla's threepeat in the Europa League it's hardly just Barca and Madrid, is it?
