Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Barca and La Liga should give over. Barca created an escape clause in his contract and that figure has been met so they can't complain really

This is a good point - release clauses do what they say on the tin, they carry a figure at which the club are obliged to enter in to negotiations and involve the player.
That Barca didn't foresee the insanity which was to engulf the football transfer market is their own fault. Whilst 5 years ago it was impossible to sense a £200M player was on the horizon, it's here now and they've got to deal with it.

In their favour is, while it will obviously be difficult to bring in another player of Neymar's quality, they will earn enough money in this deal to buy probably 2 other top 10 players if they're obtainable. And this will improve their squad as they aim to wrestle the CL from Real Madrid. I don't think it will prove to be the disaster for Barca that perhaps some of their fans are fearing right now.

Just now, a statement on FCB Website confirming he asked to leave!

NEYMAR ASKS TO LEAVE BARCA

Barcelona have released the following statement on their official website regarding Neymar's future...

"FC Barcelona returned to training this Wednesday morning after the American tour, the first part of a double session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

"Before the morning session began, Neymar Jr. informed those present of his wish to leave the Club and was therefore given permission to miss training and resolve his future.

"Ernesto Valverdewas otherwise able to count on all the players available with Gerard Deulofeu, Andre Gomes and Ter Stegen rejoining the group which included Varo and Alena of Barca B."

Apparently its been confirmed that United triggered his release clause last year for £170 Million, and that personal terms were agreed.
Neymar changed his mind at the last moment though, and chose not to sign for United.... :O
Who has confirmed this?

I give it 2 years. We'll have 2 years of calls for more protection for Neymar, suggesting lesser players in France shouldn't tackle him... and he'll want to be off to star in London/China/Mars... but PSG won't sell him.

Fed up with the holier than thou crap Barca spout though. If they are really that morally opposed to all things PSG, they should let him leave for £90m to us (a proper football club)... and use that to buy Courtinho.

True true. Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, City, Spurs, Liverpool. Such a crap league. Compared to the two clubs in France who only play decent opponents in the champions league.
I didn't say the PL was a crap league, though, I said it's ridiculous to insult the Spanish and French leagues when they have largely outshone and sometimes hammered those teams you mentioned above in Europe in the last number of years. I think it's ridiculous to see people get so high and mighty about the PL given how much of an embarrassment our clubs have been in Europe despite the swathes of money they've spent.

Well that's crazy, still don't believe the whole saga. UEFA has to come up with some rule to limit these payments, don't know how but that's nuts.

I think we should try and get him, if Barcelona don't wanna be bullied by oil money, they should negotiate less from us.

Barca and Madrid dominating Europe has nothing to do with how strong La Liga is or isn't. It's because they've both had two of the best players in the planet, and two of the best of all time, pulling up ridiculous statistics for them. When those two properly decline, then we'll see who dominates.

You're forgetting Atleti, Sevilla and teams like Villarreal and Bilbao who have reached Semi finals and finals. The league has produced a few quality teams with good European progress the last few years.

The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the Club in a meeting held at the Club’s offices.

Faced with this position, the Club has informed them they refer to the buy-out clause of his existing contract which as of 1 July totals 222 million euros which will have to be deposited in its entirety.

Furthermore, in reply to the claim for the contract extension bonus, the Club has once again made it clear that the amount remains deposited with a notary until the case is resolved.

The player remains under contract at FC Barcelona but with temporary permission to not take part in training sessions.

Speaking of PSG not selling, what ever happened with Verratti this summer? There was a story or two about him wanting out, to Barca.

What about Atletico, and Sevilla in the Europa?

Have Atlectico ever won the Champions League? Being runners up twice in a blue moon hardly equals dominating. Sevilla have done well in the Europa League, true. Liverpool, the bottling bastards easily had enough to beat them though.

It's over double the current record. As good as Neymar is I'm not sure he's worth the risk TBH. His wages also would be almost double our next highest, it's just insane for 1 player.

The wages that barca Pay to MSN is the reason they are struggling to invest money to improve their overall squad. I don't want us to break record for the highest transfer each year, I would be more than happy if we make astute signings like Bayern and we are building a good enough squad Jose to compete at the highest level.

You would need Neymar to agree too. Also, Barcelona might as well get as much money as they can if they are losing him.

Sorry but who out of our team's has reached 2 CL finals in the last few years? I also never said anything about dominating, you did, I merely said they totally outperformed our team's, which they did.

Perez signed Ancelotti from PSG and kept good relationship with them. Now he is letting PSG move payment for Jese to next year so it can help them with FFP and signing Neymar. He also said NO to Barca anti PSG initiative.

The day you want to see will never come.

Wait for the day when Real tries to buy a PSG player, someone PSG isn't willing to sell.

weird saying that considering PSG never even won the league last season. do you consider the german and italian leagues as mickey mouse as well as 2 teams have dominated them lately ?

You are comparing Germany and Italy to France?

Neymar can join PSG because he's already a star. Someone like Antoine would just disappear imo.
Plus whoever joins PSG has the same problem as Neymar had under Messi.
Honestly, imaging their owners had bought an English club instead. We'd all be fecked.
How is it any different than City?

Barcelona can not replace Neymar like-for-like. Coutinho/Dybala/Dembele whoever are not (yet) on Neymar's level. However with the money they get they could truly strengthen their CM.

Man, we should have gone after Verrati.
PSG would have wanted to teach us a lesson too and take our best player from the final for 50 mn. Fellaini.
Woody missed a trick here IMO

That was because they never replaced Zlatan. If they had him, they might well have done

@Lay
EL doesn't mean much with the apathy Italian and English clubs have for it but, even if it does, it shows La Liga teams can compete on a lesser financial footing.
I can't see what FIFA can do in regards to clauses. They can't stop Neymar being paid as a brand ambassador and they can't overturn Spanish law.
La Liga is fecked if star players refuse to agree to 1b buyout clauses. An agent from now on will never give away that power it gives him when negotiating new deals.

$$$ and no longer in Messi's shadow. He would be the face of PSG and living in a beautiful city for a team with a decent chance of winning the champions league. Doesn't sound too shabby to me.
Add that with the probability they have of winning the league.

I was originally replying to a post that used the word dominating.

I think part of the reason why his reported wage is so high is that he will be signing a long contract and PSG will not accept the previous grandstanding his father has done previously to gain a higher contract.

He might have got away with that behaviour in the past with the Barca board, but Middle Eastern business practices are very different. He will be paid well but will be expected to shut up, not complain and he will see out his contract....whether he likes it or not.

If Neymar Junior or senior have a plan to move onto another team in a few years they will be in for a rude awakening...PSG's owners would rather burn the money than lose face. They'd better like Paris as they will be there for a long time.

Barca went in like a bully for Veratti, tho to twist PSG`s arm, expecting them just to take it like they are used to. PSG turned, slap the shit out of them and now they close to take Neymar from them, bully Barca run off crying to their mommy(La Liga), acting like victim  . I am fecking loving it, can put my opinion about PSG on side for this one.

This!
This transfer makes me so happy for some reason.

They might also want to look into their defense. Defensively they always seemed frail in the last couple of years.

Get someone of Coutinho/Dybala/Dembele/Mbappé as well as a good CB and a right FB and they should overall be more balanced as a team. If the current transfermarket allows it they might end up being stronger than with Neymar. Although they lost their youngest star player which will probably hurt them in 3-4 years the most.

Should we get involved?
The cat's out of the bag now, surely we should try atleast

Don't PSG need a centre midfielder now that Motta is old and Mautudi is leaving? Trying to remember off hand who else they have, Rabiot, Verratti..who else?
