Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

At 25, Neymar has scored almost twice as many goals as Ronaldo did by the same age.

A load of those goals in Brazil though. 99% of Ronaldo's goals came in the Prem and La Liga. Ronaldo was also a full on Winger in his younger years.

Bottom line is he's not capable of lacing Ronaldo's boots.

How much do you think a world player of the year award could be bought for?

Completely crazy from PSG but cant feel sorry for the hypocrits at Barca and La Liga.
I wonder why his representative said he was also close to United

I wouldn't say that. Ronaldo won most of his trophies and personal accolades late in his career so, you never know. I think Neymar has the talent to reach that level.

Nonsense. Ronaldinho, a childhood idol of every single current-generation Brazilian footballer, played for PSG ~15 years ago. Neymar and his contemporaries would've known about PSG a long time ago, not just since oil money. I'm not suggesting that money isn't a factor here, but PSG aren't just a two-bob outfit unknown outside of Europe.

They were a stepping stone for Ronaldinho into Europe just like PSV was for Ronaldo and the fact they count Becks as a legend for them should tell you something. They are a young club only 47 years old and that's about it. Any club being funded by oil - managed right - will do reasonable in Europe since a lot of good players don't care about who they play for but rather want the money.

I never thought I'd see this happen...one of the worlds best footballers, one of the biggest in marketing terms leaving Barcelona in his prime for the French league. Strange times. Although I can understand him wanting to step out from Messi's shadow, he wants to be the main man and that will never happen at Barca while Messi is there. I'm just really surprised that it looks to be actually happening. Winning French leagues and topping the scoring over there isn't going to be held in such high regard. He's going to have to win the Champions League with them. He's only one player, he doesn't increase PSGs chances of doing that by so much. To be considered as he wants to be he'll have to do a sort of Maradonna and win everything with PSG almost on his own.

Apart of me questions if he's strong enough or has the desire to stay on his feet but I just feel going to France is like only playing in the CL. No offence if anyones French - or supports a French team but I'm not seeing the point. How many French teams can compete with PSG? But I think he would do well in England. We don't have oil money though which is sad for us.

One, maybe two. Just like in La Liga.

Apparently its been confirmed that United triggered his release clause last year for £170 Million, and that personal terms were agreed.
Neymar changed his mind at the last moment though, and chose not to sign for United.... :O

They've had their fair share of great players over the years.

 What the feck does this have to do with La Liga seriously? Just shut up and accept their money like a good little boy, La Liga

But it's okay for every other club in the world to get buttfecked by these clubs? I suggest Barca shut the feck up now and take it like a man, bunch of whiney cnuts

This has to be the end of big transfers right or will it continue rise beyond the reported figure of Neymar's ?.

Huh? Where exactly was that confirmed?

That means not so much. People selling PSG as this great club...no one mentioned Paris before the money. It's all about the money and not about following in Ronaldinhos footsteps. I seem to remember them not being too bothered when they sold him. He was young, had a bit of a reputation and not consistant as you would expect.

So I just don't see the point. It's a backwards step for the player. Again he should speak to Zlatan and ask his opinion. If he scores 5 a game in France? No one will care that much. It will not match up to Ronaldo or Messis achievements. If he thinks he can win the CL with PSG once - twice - three times then goodluck to him but that's all people will remember.

If they've had a good few great players - well being in Paris helps if you play in France. It's a great location but again I'm not seeing it. I think as someone said, if he signs for 5 years - then the only way he's leaving is free transfer and maybe that's what he wants - make more money but that means little to people. If he wants to be seen as the best? He should aim higher then the French League because then you rely solely on the CL.

Nah, this will be like the Bale transfer. It'll set a new precedent for the players in the upper bracket for sure. 100m+ will be the norm. I wouldn't be surprised if Barca pay 100m+ for Coutinho with that money.

Great, here comes the "He turned down Utd for a similar deal so its not about the money" bullshit

We're damn lucky to not chase Pogba this transfer window and under current prices.

Now good luck to Barcelona trying to compensate Neymar with that in mind. I think they would certainly go after Coutinho, maybe Dembele, but the question is will they be ready to pay another ridiculous amount.
The Pogba price is increasingly looking a bargain in this market. Mourinho was right months ago when he said this summer would see the transfer record broken in a way that would make Pogba's fee seem paltry.

How is it tax-free?
It depends where he gets paid i suppose different countries have different tax laws. Maybe he gets paid in the middle east. I dont know if thats even allowed but it could be one answer.

And thats Couts off to barca now

That's never going to happen ever. Messi and Ronaldo have pushed boundaries that is not reachable by neymar. Also its not the best league one bit.
Silly use of a smiley. He's younger than them and should naturally suprass them soon.

It is the best league presently, quite clearly.

In which case, wouldn't his wage be £1.3m a week?!
not exactly...
French higher rate tax is 45% (anything over around 150k euros)
There is then the french NI equivalent around 13.5%
and there is also a 1.8% wealth tax for people with over 16m in assets which I assume neymar also has
so more like 60% tax
so £650k pre tax is actually more like £1.625m a week or £84.5m a year
if the 650k is euros (thats what o read but hey websites and papers seem to interchange pound and euros all the time) then its around £1.45m a week at todays rate or around £75m a year

And is coutinho a £100+ mil plus player not in my eyes, I would say around £80 mil in today's market is fair.

Barca and La Liga should give over. Barca created an escape clause in his contract and that figure has been met so they can't complain really

Can anyone actually tell me what went wrong with Neymar and Barcelona. This move literally came out of nowhere. I get the money angle, but surely something must have happened to make Neymar want to leave?

La Liga refusing to accept the money is pathetic but then this was never going to be a straightforward transfer now was it.

Also leave us the fcuk out of it, we don't need the ''Neymar changed his mind about joining us'' bs.

Good. I hope teams now tap up Real's players too like how they've done to every other team. Go on PSG, assert your dominance.

Perez signed Ancelotti from PSG and kept good relationship with them. Now he is letting PSG move payment for Jese to next year so it can help them with FFP and signing Neymar. He also said NO to Barca anti PSG initiative.

The day you want to see will never come.
