Neymar off to Paris - Coutinho off to Barca.

Madrid never one to be outdone (especially by Barca), buy the French kid - in turn selling Bale to us to fund the transfer and leaving City with nothing but defenders who can't defend.

Uhm, barcelona don't want coutinho to replace neymar. They want coutinho to keep neymar

Neymar really shouldn't go for his own sake. The Spanish league is the best around and he should take the challenge of being it's best player (and the world's). I don't think his performance in la liga last year were as good as they should have been.

This whole transfer is just insane.

I will be pretty amused if Liverpool lose Coutinho though.

I wish we were in for him, despite the ridiculousness.

It's very similar to the Ronaldo transfer in a few ways. The talent is proven over multiple seasons (unlike a lot that are happening at the moment), he's coming into his prime but still pretty young, highly likely to be the best in the world in a couple of years, the fee is well above anything seen before.
We should be in for stuff like that, the rare chance it comes up (and we aren't the ones losing out).

So is Coutinho a signing to keep the Barca fans happy if Neymar leaves, or is he a signing to keep Neymar happy and stop him from leaving?

Some insight from Mino Raiola on this transfer:

"It's not a transfer fee, it's a compensation for damages. Barcelona paid 80 million to sign Neymar. Because they paid his dad 45 million, an 80 million dollar fine was added by the Spanish treasury. Add a year salary of 20 million and we're over 200 million already. They [Barcelona] want to earn back those expenses.

Neymar is young, Brazilian, and the absolute superstar of the future. As long as TV-money, commercial revenues and sponsorship money keeps getting higher, you earn the money back."

Translated from Dutch because well, Raiola's Dutch after all...

Wait. Barca ended up paying 160m (after penalty) in transfer fee for Neymar? That is insane.

I assumed it would be the former, interesting.
They want to sign him because he's good and they see him as iniesta replacement, snd because neymar wants to play with his buddy

Fans won't be happy about neymar leaving, but they'd be happy about signing coutinho

I don't get this Neymar future thing. Can he get any bigger with everything he has already won?
I know about the Cafe age thing but he will be 26 mid way through next season, he's not exactly Mbappe here waiting to explode.

Am I the only one that thinks Neymar is making the right career choice by going to PSG? I mean he will double his salary, He gets to be the main man at one of the clubs with a real chance of winning the CL also if he wins the CL with PSG, he's almost certain to win the Ballon D'or where as at Barca it's Messi.

I don't understand this main man nonesense people say. Messi is the main man because he is the best player, simple. When Neymar starts to perform better and become more important to Barcelona then he can call the shots about wages etc. right now he has no right to demand more.

I wouldn't consider the penalty as part of the 'Transfer Fee' as it is something that would never have been contemplated or taken into consideration by Barca at the time of negotiating the terms of transfer of Neymar with Santos.

I wouldn't be happy as a Barcelona fan if Coutinho was the replacement for Neymar. Even though Im not able to look at Coutinho objectively considering the team he plays for he is no way on a par with Neymar.

Have to say even at the fees being talked about I'm suprised Woody hasn't thrown our hat in.

If this one pulls off, and Mbappe too, along with City's spending... you would have to say our time as the moneybags of Europe was short lived!

He really does have the most punchable fizzog in football, doesn't he? Only Jack Wilshere surpasses him.

It's all about the World Cup next year, unless Real win it again. A CL 3-peat probably edges the World Cup.

We should go in for him. He would be a huge signing for us on the pitch and commercially.

I imagine United weighed it up when he was rumoured to be offered to clubs and the numbers didn't stack up. Even for Woodward.

A 'solution" to what? He's always signing new contracts. Based on what the transfer cost+dad's fee+fine was thats 200m euro's easy plus, what 100m in wages and a new signing on fee for his latest contract.

He's a great player, but I wouldn't necessarily sign him based on way too much drama (negotiating and signing new contract every year), he'd be wanting to sign for City or PSG after a season or two tops and on top of that it would make our wage structure even more ridiculous.

Wait for Griezmann. About a third of the price, 100x less drama and also a great player that will take us to the highest levels of domestic and european football.

It says it all that Perez didn't even want to touch this guy even four years ago.

Neymar Sr. and Co. really have surrounded themselves with a dubious lot, before it was Ribeiro but Zahavi?? It's incredible the crooks in the game making millions

Here's what you get when you make Neymar the star

Damn!
I'd love it if he were doing that trickery for us, at OT. The crowd would hold their breath everytime he was on the ball.
For entertainment purposes, as well as the goal scoring, I think £200M is a reasonable fee, in today's climate.

I think he should stay in La liga.

But he should move.

Move to Madrid? For what? What he can win with Madrid he has already won with Barca. The money would be roughly the same as both teams have a similar wage structure. If anything, Barca pays more than Madrid right now. Makes no sense. Madrid has Ronaldo as well.

Agreed. His signing would put United wage structure to shamble, because every United star in the future would use Neymar's as reference. It won't be sustainable for a financially self-support club like United.

He might be the main man at PSG but will still be behind Messi and Ronaldo.

Because he loves attention and will get a massive signing on fee. Then he will jump ship to PSG in 2-3 years.

When Ronaldo leaves.

Would be the perfect replacement.

Think he is the kind to relish that challenge. It's not about winning trophies for Neymar. It's about winning them as the main man.
