Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

I can't believe if a player REALLY wanted to leave he could be swayed that easy. Something is odd about this, maybe he's been pressured from elsewhere

Nah, even if he stays, the smoke was real this time. And for that, many fans won't like him as much as they did before.

I completely agree that the smoke was totally real, but he'd be totally mental to actually go to PSG. Would kill his career don't care what anyone says about them being a threat in the CL. Empty soulless club always will be.

Aye, absolutely ruined Ibrahimovic, Veratti et al.

What is the definition of a "soulless club"? Rich club? Club founded after 1956?

Just not a fan of sugar daddy owners it's a complete fabrication and just makes the sport a lottery, which isn't what it is really about in my opinion.

Zlatan will regret spending some of his best years there.

Yes, he will regret becoming their legend, winning multiple titles and beating multiple goalscoring records at PSG, in one of the most amazing cities in the world, while pocketing massive wages and still getting to play for a huge club afterwards.

@Rusholme Ruffian
Not Neymar? Kane for example has been miles better than Neymar over the last 2 years. Thats not getting into Lewandowski, Griezmann etc

@Rusholme Ruffian
Yes, Kane has been better than Neymar over the last two years.
This forum and fans in general have this strange habit of having a hierarchy in mind and sticking to it no matter what.
Its the mentality of ignoring performance after performance from a player you initially rated because "They've shown they're a quality player and if we can get him back to that..."
The Sanches and Costa threads were ripe with that.
Neymar was proclaimed the heir to Messi a few years ago so he's cemented in peoples eyes as number 3 no matter what.
Fail to deliver in big games? Doesnt matter.
Gradually regress in terms of finishing? Goals smoals..
If Neymar performs as he has over the last 2 years for PSG then he'll be seen as a flop.
Please stop. in 2016 he scored 24 league goals, created 101 chances, completed 143 dribbles, all while not being the main man. Thinking players like Kane is better than Neymar, no doubt leads to the shock and indignation, when England get embarrassed in International tourneys, and also in CL

@Stacks
Theres a reason I said over two years but go on ahead..
I haven't said he isn't an elite player but he hasn't been the 3rd best player in a long time.

Yes, if I were a player PSG would be one of the first places I'd want to go. And it is an historic club, for what that's worth, with a large fanbase. It's not as old as some but it's the successor to a much older tradition in the city. Not that any clubs are really that old, historically speaking.

While there is a worry about the extent to which clubs are self-sustaining, morality doesn't really come into it. The popularity of the biggest clubs in the world is based as much on past and present injustices as their own worth. Clubs with huge fanbases like Manchester United and Real Madrid benefit from the brutal spread of past empires and I doubt there's a club without dubious links in the present. I like to think Arsenal are about as moral as you get but when your stadium is named after an airline based in the UAE you can't get on any horse higher than ankle level.

So the sport is about the established hierarchy being the only ones able to afford players?

The sport should ideally be first success, then money and then due to that more success.

I know you as a Chelsea fan don't like that, but any scrote can be a lottery winner, meanwhile it takes something more to build success brick upon brick.

I still doubt he's leaving but IF he does I can picture Florentino buying him back some years later to return to the Spanish League and play for Real Madrid lmao

Money.

What is hard to believe about that?
The reasons he wanted to leave where to cement his legacy somewhere else. If that's why you're leaving then there's no going back on that? Unless he's decided he can wait for messi to leave then I can't see any other reason.

Why wouldn't you try to buy him now? Is it because of a non competition agreement between Barca and Real?

We should hijack this. Come on Eddy!
No way should we break the transfer record by over 100%. This price tag will be hanging on Neymar the rest of his career and he'll become a complete circus.

Let the oil barons pay it if they want to.

He already played with Madrid twice.Firstly in Brasil before signing with Rosell and later before the renewal. Neymar and his father were in Madrid looking for houses where Cristiano lives (La Finca). At the end he was just using Madrid for his interests.
With the previous 180 m€clause, with doubts about Cris and with Neymar playing better than now it could be an option but in my opinion not now, besides I think that Madrid can´t afford to pay the clause+ Neymar wages+Neymar´s father wages

With RM being a bit passive so far I kinda expect some big move(s) coming later in the window. Nothing would surprise me.

I'm not a fan of all the money in football these days but that's way over the top IMO.

Why do people think he will make €60m a year there? He won't. He makes what, €20m a year or less at Barca?

Not sure what me being a Chelsea fan has anything to do with it at all. So because you were successful 50 years ago you deserve to be successful now and buy the best players etc? No team has any right to be successful or have money. The idea that some teams are more deserving than others is ludicrous. Man United are lucky their period of success coincided with the explosion of the premier league. If it had happened 10 years earlier, then there is every chance that Liverpool would be what United are now.

Reading your bit about Neymar's fathers wages I had visions of Neymar hiring Raiola as his agent. National banks would tremble at the amount of money going around :lol:

He's in the line-up for Barca's friendly today.

There were reports he'd kiss the badge if he scored :lol:

For what it's worth, a Marca reporter who's in New York currently (where Barca are training right now I think) and regularly writes for Barca saying Neymar wants to say after talking to teammates.

I think he will ultimately end up staying although this was a lot of bother for what assume isn't even an improved contract. If was really intent on going and made that known to Barcelona i don't think they would have allowed him to link up with the current players nor start him in the preseason match. Neymar just scored btw.

Saw that people were talking about him scoring a goal. Question is did he kiss the badge as per rumor?

Its easy for us as United fans to feel this way and don't get me wrong I feel the same about City and Chelsea. It doesn't feel organic, but United are massively fortunate to have gained major success when they did which has now set them up for a major future with income that all clubs would dream to have access to.

So I think soul and fairness is long out of the window. Players aren't local boys very often any more.

United is looking more and more foreign everyday.

We paid close to the record for Pogba and Neymar can definitely handle the pressure as shown by his performance for Brazil. Hell, he might relish it.

He is comparable to Ronaldo at 25 and would make us instant CL contenders.

Barca are really better off selling Messi for the same money.

The money is ludicrous but better than shelling out loads every year from PSG's perspective. Real paid 80m 8 years ago and now Utd say we were ripped off. The same could be true here.
