Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Barca should do this deal. They're losing a megastar but if they can prise Verratti or get the 220m price then they can use that money to strengthen much needed key areas elsewhere. They will have no problem attracting a top talent to replace him, be it Dembele, Coutinho or nearly anyone else.

Looks like PSG are going to have a huge summer. They have also agreed terms with sanchez, if they get both it could be about 300 million euros.
I hope barca sign coutinho and stay away from dembele, i want dembele here. I would have no doubts about giving martial away either if it meant we got dembele.

Actually think its a good move for all parties.

- Neymar gets out of Messi's shadow cos no matter how well he plays he would always be second to messi in barcelona
- PSG make a statement signing not just in ability but from a club like Barcelona. It would be on the level of Figo to Madrid
- Barca get some needed money to rebuild their team but the stupid cules will probably spend it on a new Messi contract

Any player barca want will skyrocket in price. Wouldnt mind selling them Herrera for 100m or Martial for 200m

I always thought this was just contract negotiations but way too many stories coming out. Hard to swallow that he would choose to join them. He'll be the best player in the world in two years. Great for the PSG fans to be honest.

Whats Messi got to do with anything? Messi wasn't just signed recently, he was there during Neymar's beast years.
I must have imagined the criticisms of Neymar shrinking from responsibility when in goal scoring positions or going months without a goal, or PSG at home being one of a few CL games where he hasn't been invisible.
Yep, no regression there from when he scored in every round on the way to winning the CL

Of course he's regressed. His consistency in front of goal dropped considerably.
What is it? 10 league goal last year, if that?

Jesus what an incredible statement of intent this would be by PSG. Taking one of Barcelona's best players. Wow.

Great business for all parties involved imo if this deal does in fact go through.

> PSG makes a massive statement with this signing
> Neymar gets his own spotlight and probable world record wages which ain't bad for playing in Paris lol
> Barca get much needed money to use to strengthen other parts of the team to become more complete which they've went away from the past number of years. The front3 they have/had was pretty unnecessary considering they already have Messi who alone is enough.

BONUS
> Blows the Pogba fee out of the water. Will definitely bring down the dumb trolling that he doesn't score or whatnot being a play making midfielder. People naturally expect money = goals which is just a crazy misconception. Can't wait for the crap Neymar will get being a 20ish goal scorer at a total cost of £500M over the duration of the contract

Starting to think this might be on? So strange that Neymar would willingly leave barca and go to ligue 1 though. Even if he wants to get out of messi's shadow, he's hardly going to get spotlight in ligue 1. Ibra scored over 50 goals there as a 34 year old and everyone pretty much just said "meh, its ligue 1". Their only hope would be to win the champions league, but barca is currently still better then Psg so I'm not aure what benefit it has for neymar considering there are a few times with better prospects.

Anyway, barca should do whatever they can to get Verratti in return if its true. Their midfield has been wank since Xavi left and iniesta declined, they need verratti.

I only mentioned Messi because you said that Messi is being forced to take the pressure, when in reality the club is built specifically around Messi.
Plus Barca as a whole haven't done as well in recent years, that however doesn't mean that Kane is the better player, all he's managed to do in those years is score lots of goals in the PL.

I don't see how that makes him better than Neymar, when Neymar doesn't play as striker for Barca, so I don't get why you're focusing sole on goals and ignoring the other part of each player's game.
Harry Kane scores more goals than Neymar, that I will concede, but he's not a better player than him, he's not even the best player in the league.

Sure this gets Neymar out of Messi's shadow but it sends him into an even bigger obscurity, Ligue 1. Look at how much Zlatan spoke last season about being here to prove himself. People didn't rate him as a top player despite his excellent return in that league.

Nobody is going to cement their position as a legend of the game by playing in France.

I think that there is a slight difference. Ibrahimovic has never really been a player with a huge amount of followers, he wasn't the type of player that would push people to watch the L1, Neymar on the other hand is a bona fide superstar, wherever he goes, he brings his own spotlights.

I'm still confident this isn't actually going to happen. I admit, it's quite odd that according to most media this is a done deal but I remain sceptical. Morata to Utd was apparently 'done' too but look how that worked out.

A friend of mine with some Adidas contacts said this was all a marketing strategy to get everyone talking about Neymar before his new shoes release(has there been any news of his upcoming shoe?) Shoes as in cleats.

Sounds farfetched tbh.

You have a good point. He may be top dog but he'll only be top dog in a shitty league. Can only assume that he (and his father?) care massively about money.

Cadena Ser reporting that Neymar has told the Barca board to keep calm because he's staying.
It was supposedly a couple of days ago though.

I still don't think he'll move, these prices are baffling even for a club like PSG.

Can anyone see Di Maria coming to us if this happens? Mourinho loved him.
Di Maria couldn't get away from Manchester fast enough and quite honestly I wouldn't want him back. His attitude is terrible and we would probably have to pay more than we gave Madrid for him.

If he hadn't already played for the club and burned a lot of bridges, I would say it was nailed on. Jose definitely rates him and he fits the profile of player Jose wants perfectly. But, I think that ship has sailed. Lucas may be a possibility though.

If this deal goes through it will really open up the market. Barca will need to sign players and PSG will need to move some on.

Things might be a lot different with Mourinho at the helm. He may see it as unfinished business. Who else would be in for Di Maria?

Lucas is similar in some ways to Rashford. Di Maria gives us the crosses that Mourinho wants. I wouldn't doubt that Di Maria will have to be shifted and Mourinho might enquire about it.

I was talking about this to a friend yesterday and he came up with a good point that I hadn't thought of, similar to the Messi shadow philosophy. Usually in most generations of footballers the best Brazilian footballer is often recognised as the best footballer in the world. Neymar isn't recognised as the best at his club and often interchanges with Suarez as 2nd or 3rd best at the club.

But his point was, they're all South American, and internationally they're all pretty significant rivals, so from that perspective he could see why Neymar would want out, being 2nd or 3rd to international rivals.

Unless he leads PSG to a CL title or 2, he's going to slide further down the pecking order playing at PSG.

It's a gamble, but if Neymar goes to PSG and they actually manage to win the CL, it would be a greater accomplishment than winning another one with Barcelona. He would become a legend in Paris if he's the main man behind the feat, and it will be talked about worldwide as the best signing in PSG's history, which they actually have a rich history of signing potentially world-class players even before the QSI takeover. I'd rather see Neymar being the man in Paris than second or third-fiddle in Barcelona, although I would have liked to see him in the Premier League to see how he would adapt.
