Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

If this goes through I wonder if he'll get as routinely shat on by neutrals as Pogba. Somehow, I think not

Things might be a lot different with Mourinho at the helm. He may see it as unfinished business. Who else would be in for Di Maria?

Lucas is similar in some ways to Rashford. Di Maria gives us the crosses that Mourinho wants. I wouldn't doubt that Di Maria will have to be shifted and Mourinho might enquire about it.

I agree that Di Maria will leave PSG and Jose would want him. But it would be a big gamble to re-sign a player who failed to make an impact at the club as the marquee signing and was sold after a year at a loss, especially now his stock has fallen further.

The only way I could see it happening would be a cut price deal.

Awful decision to bring back Di Maria

Same player that went AWOL just before he left.

Thankfully it will never happen.

This thing with Neymar being 2nd fiddle at Barcelona is making me laugh. He's had plenty of big games for Barcelona where he was seen as the main force of the team. Neymar was even credited by most of the press as being the most important player in the 6-1 remontada vs PSG. Messi was not at his best, and Suarez was ok, but nothing spectacular. It was Neymar who shone the brightest. He got plenty of credit for that.

He does get credit at Barcelona, sometimes as much as the other two players, sometimes even more, depending on who is performing at the greatest level. If Messi gets the most credit, it's because he is the best, not because Neymar is not the main man or some stupid idea like that. Otherwise, the talk about the best front three ever wouldn't have happened. Nobody says about 2nd fiddle players that they are part of the best attacking trio ever assembled. That's a great recognition of his value in itself.

There is no way for Neymar to be the best except proving on the field that he is better than Messi and Ronaldo. He just isn't. At Barcelona, he is probably seen as the 3rd best player in the world, which is exactly the highest position that his ability allows him to be at this point. Moving to PSG does nothing except throws him in a league that is off the spotlight, considering La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, and Serie A are the 4 best leagues in the world.

Only way Neymar to PSG makes sense is money. Him and his father get loads of it it seems. From a sporting perspective, it makes ZERO sense.

Another interesting fact in French papers is that PSG can hope to get a new sponsorship deal with Nike and easily grab around 50M€ more per season.

Their current nine-year contract with Nike was signed in 2013 for around 20M€ per year (+ bonus and a share of sales, which should top 30M€ per year) and Emirates pay 20M€ per year (+a 5M€ bonus). Most contracts by big European clubs are currently negiotated between 50M€ to 100M€ and even the French Football Federation gets more from Nike (42.6M€) so there's room for a big raise there. There were already rumors this year that PSG was asking for 70M€ by Nike (200M€ improvement on the whole contract), with Neymar they would get some strong negotiation leverage.

I still can't see Neymar leaving Barca. The only reason why i could see him doing it, is that he wants to evade some tax issues in Spain. He seems to me like the person which is heavily involved in this kind of stuff.

@serghei not a matter of recognition, it's a matter of fit. Neymar at barcelona has to sacrifice certain parts of his game, and energies, for Messi. It kinda makes sense because Messi is better, though the MSN was at its best when all 3 sacrificed something for the other 2. Messi's refusal/inability to continue sacrificing part of his game over the last year and 1/2 forced neymar to sacrifice ever more of his. You only need look at the way luis enrique was using him for a chunk of the season, when he was asked to play almost as a wingback

Neymar believes he's good enough to have a big team built around him, and wants to prove it

With all that said, OF COURSE money is the primary motivation. He's not leaving barcelona if PSG didn't offer to double his wages

He has no loyalty to Barca. The only reasons i could see him staying at Barca are that he is too expensive and that he is at one of the biggest clubs in the world and doesnt want to take a step down. I think the other reasons of him going are bigger than him staying, especially since PSG will pay him and Barca a fortune. The rumours of him leaving were there for a few years now and now finally i cant wait for him to piss off and make the move

Totally understand this bit. It's just a shame (from a United fan's perspective) that it isn't at a more prestigious club. Such as United!
Because that's not his main motivation, that's a bonus. He's going to PSG because he's on €30M a year and they're offering him €60M. Being able to fully showcase his talent comes after that

Amen to all you said. Can't believe any fan would want him back after his crap behaviour.

That wage climbs after every pages.

+ The bonus of his father that probably is bigger than the previous one of Barsa.
What about the FFP? Bartomeu said some days ago that they couldn't afford Neymar because of that

Apparently i was staying low  latest i heard, it's €40M after tax for neymar(so a €25M bump from what he's on) plus another €40M for Neymar Sr

Selling Neymar makes sense why they've suddenly been linked with a big move for Laporte and Dybala. They've got a big sum of cash coming there way and working on recruitments.

PSG will never go back in for him if he changes his mind now.
Could be one of those things that go our way without realising it.

Amazing turn of events. Strong rumour that PSG are going in at £35m for Sanchez too. Surely they can't spend so much on these two guys combined? Is Sanchez a back-up? Why are we not in this mix? Makes little sense for us not to try and get either of these guys if we have a chance to. I'd take "only" being able to spend £100m next Summer if it meant getting Neymar this. We'd probably only need a CM desperately then anyway (and maybe a Full Back).

Edit: Actually, just seen that their net-spend is -£1m~ so far this Summer.. They probably can get away with £230m if they sell and loan some players as well. Madness.

No one looks good if he stays now, he should just leave, be a man and go.
Exactly. Even the majority of Barca fans would prefer the money than keep him. If he stays now after all the fuss created, PSG will probably never go back for him, his fans may turn on him and his club won't exactly be happy.

It would be no different from a few weeks back and all the reports about Ronaldo leaving then a few nice words from the people at Real and everything was rosey again. Bunch of prima donnas needing everyone to constantly tell them how amazing they are.

Reports that Messi deleted all the photos including Neymar from his instagram.

Just checked and there are no neymar pics on Messi's instagram. Not sure if he deleted anything recently, but lots of other Barca players seem to be on there.

I don't believe Neymar sacrificed too much from his game tbh. Trust me, I watched almost all games last season. Neymar was played on like crazy. By everyone. If you look at the passing network in Barca's games, Neymar is the most passed to player this last season. There's no doubt about his place at Barca. That of a star player. Take the PSG game on Camp Nou. Did Messi stop him in every way from taking the game on and being the best player on the pitch? No.

Neymar at Barca was the 3rd best player in the world in the treble season. That's the best level he can be at with Messi and Ronaldo around. This last season was bad for everyone, as Lucho was a mess. This doesn't mean that with a new manager he can not be one of the best players in the world, something he became at Barcelona. How is signing for PSG going to improve his chances to be the best he can be? Ligue 1 is not good enough for Neymar, and is bad stylistic fit as well.

I haven't been watching as many Barca games as you but I also find that he hugs the line a lot and that's not the place where you are the most influential while Messi is in the heart of the game and Suarez closer to the goal.

I think he's more like Robben at Bayern than Messi at Barca, Cristiano at Real or himself for Brazil.

He's got to think this move very carefully. He's 25 and has lots of years left in him. Does he really want to spend his best years playing in the french league? He could easily play for the best clubs in the world, more prestigious ones (he's already at one). If PSG spends that much money on him, you can be sure they won't allow him to leave easily if he gets disgruntled and I doubt any other club would top this fee anytime soon.

We should bid the 196M if only to smokescreen for a Sanchez bid... PSG will be all in a spin and we get the real target

Money is everything in sport in the medium and long term.

They are throwing down mega money for the clause and offering to double his salary.

It's not remotely surprising he would be happy enough to ply his trade in Ligue 1 with twice the pay clearing in his bank account.

I've still been hoping that we would come in and make a move but no links whatsoever.

Out of our financial reach even, I guess.

These true megastars... The wages are in a different stratosphere to what we have paid our top players.

Neymar wants to stay but doesn´t know if will be able to stop the negotiations with PSG

Hmm. Neymar would have scored 40 goals with ease last season if he wouldn't have been that wasteful with his chances. For a player of his caliber, he missed some piss easy goals, goals which cost us the league in the end. The only reason why he plays that close to the line is that he is the most penetrating and quickes player from Barcelona. A lot of the times last season, Barcelona played Neymar on more than they played Messi. That was a tactical concern with Barca fans last season, because Lucho made Barca so reliant on Neymar's dribbling and Messi's passing, that when they were off their game we couldn't create jack shit. If anything, Neymar was too much treated like a superstar last season. I'd say Suarez is the one who sacrifices the most out of the front three.

A few stories coming out that he wants to stay after all, never saw that coming...

Nah, even if he stays, the smoke was real this time. And for that, many fans won't like him as much as they did before.
