Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

According to ESPN FC he has accepted to join PSG.

Credible sources in Spain are saying his teammates have persuaded him to stay with Barca. I think they are better placed to know than ESPN FC.

Also pretty sure he wouldn't have started tonight if he was off.

Terrible loss for Barca if true! Neymar should light up next years World Cup, considering he'll only get champions league games to fully break a sweat.

I completely agree that the smoke was totally real, but he'd be totally mental to actually go to PSG. Would kill his career don't care what anyone says about them being a threat in the CL. Empty soulless club always will be.

That's an idiotic statement to make. PSG is a relatively young club, but they've had a history long before the QSI investment, have a strong fanbase, along with having a history of some of the best players of their generation play there from South America, Africa, and Europe. If he goes to PSG and wins a Champion's League, he'll be much more recognized than if he won another one with Barcelona.

Neymar Sr is with the Barca management in NY at the moment. We may be approaching the end of the story.

I read that the sell on fee Santos would receive is greater than the fee they got for selling him in the first place.

Mate, it's sour grapes.
Basically a lot of fans are betting buthurt that it is PSG who are getting Neymar and not us (remember, we tried to sign him previously, for a World Record fee and failed).
It's a case of the kids are having a tantrum because the toy which they want, is going to another kid.
If PSG get Neymar and also Sanchez, it's pretty clear that the footballing landscape is changing.

I'll bet my balls that he's still a Barcelona player at the end of the window, or at least not a PSG player.

He may have misgivings about playing beneath Messi every week but he isn't stupid enough to think knocking in seven goals against Nice and Rennes every week is going to win him the Ballon d'Or; if money was all he cared about he'd in China.

He obviously just wants a higher perch at Barcelona and I'm surprised PSG are being so gullibly played like this.

This, but by all accounts wants to be out of Messi's shadow.

True there's a lot of ignorance in this thread about PSG along with a lot of blindness about Barca.

What is the definition of a "soulless club"? Rich club? Club founded after 1956?

The reasons he wanted to leave where to cement his legacy somewhere else. If that's why you're leaving then there's no going back on that? Unless he's decided he can wait for messi to leave then I can't see any other reason.

Is this a serious post?

I think he'll still leave but tbh I have no fecking idea. The Barca fans don't want him anymore apparently but it must be a thing of pride.

Great post. PSG still won titles and even a European Cup before the Qatari money.

Yeah, my thinking too. It doesn't matter how much money PSG spend, until the rest of the league catches up no-one cares what they do. It would be a waste of a career for someone with his talent. He needs to be in a major league and he should know it.

Increasingly looking like a contract extension ploy. If I was a Barca fan, I'd be pissed.

Have to say, assuming united have the funds, they really should be all over this. Convince neymar, then show up to barcelona with an offer of, say, €200M+Martial+Mkhitaryan for Neymar+Arda+Rafinha

Clubs can assign whatever value they want to the players, say the total cost of the deal is €320M with Arda(€60M) Rafinha(40) Martial(60) Mkhi(60) Neymar(220), big profits for everyone, united gets neymar and depth, barca get mhki(who is everything they thought arda would be) a boatload of money, and Martial who they can easily use as a sweetener in potential deals for dybala/dembele or sell outright(in which case the clubs can inflate mhki's value more and lower martial's) if they don't want to keep him

United would improve, but barcelona would also have the assets to improve, too. Win/win situation

How is scoring for fun against the Spanish minnows any "better" than scoring against the French ones? If he managed to win the champions league with PSG while being the competitions top scorer he'd have every chance of winning the Balon D'or.

Why not just trigger the release clause if we're paying 200mil anyways?

If we're interested, we'd just trigger the release clause.

No point involving other players and taking back 2 average players in return too.

I'm very glad you're not our transfer negotiator!

So we give them Martial and mikhi for rafinha and arda as 200m is the release clause? That's a brilliant deal for us!

And how do we get depth since it's two out and two in?

Although i do believe if there is any chance to get neymar, we should be all over it. If he stays here for his career, it will pay off in a big way getting the next Brazilian superstar and captain.

It would be no different from a few weeks back and all the reports about Ronaldo leaving then a few nice words from the people at Real and everything was rosey again. Bunch of prima donnas needing everyone to constantly tell them how amazing they are.

This. They are disgusting.

Hey oh frérot, faut pas trop exagérer non plus eh.

It was nowhere near this nor had it been going swimmingly for around roughly a decade before the arabs joined.

No thank you,.

I dont belive init one bit. Neymar Will not suit Man united's philosophy and Epl football. If he has ambitions to come out of messi's shadow as world's best . It wont happen in EPL and certainly not in United and Mourinho's philosophy.

United have no chance of signing Neymar. The total package in the Neymar deal involving PSG is reportedly 640m. You can't come up with that kind of money. Only the oil clubs can. And Manchester is not an attractive destination. He will either take the shitload of money and go to PSG, or he will stay at Barca, either with a bigger contract (and hopefully +1 more year and increased buyout) or with the same contract.

He'll need to win the world cup too for that. Ronaldo wil still win ballon d'or over neymar if he does not.

You have really gone off the deep end there. You couldn't even pull that off in Football Manager!

What's our philosophy?

He'll need to make off the ball attacking runs and have off the ball vision and positioning here while also tracking back defensively when needed with a higher work rate. Mourinho does not play traditional Posession based total football in Posession which suits neymar's game the best with his skills. With Pogba's passing range and vision he'll need to attack the space off the ball.

You can see Why Martial is struggling after a blistering start.

That's not even comparable. La Liga is the best league in the world and the only league that has 3 of the best 5 teams around atm. It's where the best players are. Scoring for fun against the Spanish minnows has proven to be very difficult for Neymar last season, considering him and Barca lost the league precisely because they failed to beat those teams consistently.

Neymar has some of the best movement in the game. Brazil don't play the same style as Barca and I'd argue he looks more impressive for Brazil.

Yeah, but the style of the Premier League regarding physical contact between the players would be a nightmare for Neymar. He would get hit a lot more without being given a foul. That's a killer blow for his style. He depends on those fouls he obtains. Not being given the calls when he is fouled would frustrate him to no end imo.

He is playing in the best league in the world. Of course it makes a difference if he moves to Ligue 1.
