Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

And Perez is just going to do nothing whilst his new toy gets stolen by Barca?

If the player choose Barcelona, there is nothing he can do. The bidding war only occurs when the player is happy with both clubs.

I just read in Marca that according to Catalunya Radio the transfer will happen in a 95%.
I have been reading for months in the sensationalist sport press(diariogol, don balón,okdiario) that would be problems with Neymar but they always thought Premier would be his destination.
In his previous renewal his father blatantly met with Madrid,he had problems with Unzúe,left alone the team in Riazor. And has led a life more focused on advertising than being a leader for the team.
The French league can be very exciting in a few years, especially if Monaco don´t sell everything and if there is a super investor for Lyon or Olympique, but right now it is still far away.
I wonder if Neymar and his father are aware of it.
He will earn a lot, he will be the leader and he will have a lot of individual promotion but to win balon d´or he will need to win the champions league. The French league will not be enough, especially if continues going to his sister's birthday on key dates.
I think Barça is delighted. Speculating I would say they have a liquidity problem. So the Neymar money opens a lot of options and pending issues: Pay the renewal bonus of Messi, Dybala / Coutinho / Dembele for the future, last contract + bonus for Iniesta, some renovation in la Masía to avoid leaks of talents...
And for the PSG, the demonstration that their project is serious and that they can attract anyone.
@BBRBB @Ecstatic , are you happy?

It would be so great  The deal would be a win-win for all the involved parties:

- Barcelona will receive a crazy amount of money
- Same for Neymar. He will also discover a new country with his best friend Dani Alves.
- PSG's owners are happy to waste money :smirk: to please fans :D and win the Champions League in the next years

United just don't seem to be in the mix on this one.

On another note; it's hard to say if Barca may benefit from this. Clearly the strain on finances of paying three superstar's wages is taking a toll on their budget.

It's a lot of coin but as we have seen, the prices for quality players are very high.

They could rape some poor Spanish clubs for their best players but the likes of Coutinho will be a no-go in this day and age.

You mention the French league improving - it won't.

Monaco ARE selling heavily.

Lyon do not have sugar daddy owners and who is to say they are going to get one?

Without an influx of sugar daddies - which would be bizarre as the league makes very little money and is far from prestigious - they will not compete.

The finances of Ligue 1 are paltry. They are well behind even La Liga let alone the PL.

In sports, money is everything. Case in point; Neymar leaving Barcelona to join PSG.

Also, they would have to fork out the majority of the Neymar fee if they were to try and sign either of Dybala or Neymar.

I wish someone would ask Mou in one of these interviews about his thoughts on this one.

Also, Perisic at £48m would make Neymar look a steal.

No resale or marketing value, age, talent.

I would add;

If he does go to PSG, it will not be his last club. I would definitely expect to see him in the PL in a few years.

If he signs for PSG, the only way he's moving is on a free transfer unless he's a massive flop. By that time, he'll be 30.

Or runs down his contract.

We really have no idea to be fair. Their owners could get bored even. They are completely dependent on them.

@Rusholme Ruffian
Yes, Kane has been better than Neymar over the last two years.
This forum and fans in general have this strange habit of having a hierarchy in mind and sticking to it no matter what.
Its the mentality of ignoring performance after performance from a player you initially rated because "They've shown they're a quality player and if we can get him back to that..."
The Sanches and Costa threads were ripe with that.
Neymar was proclaimed the heir to Messi a few years ago so he's cemented in peoples eyes as number 3 no matter what.
Fail to deliver in big games? Doesnt matter.
Gradually regress in terms of finishing? Goals smoals..
If Neymar performs as he has over the last 2 years for PSG then he'll be seen as a flop.

If I understand his post, he's purely speculating it might get an injection of sugar daddy clubs, but I agree speculating that is going to happen is unlikely.

Well, for me it depends, short term with the transfer fees - yeah that might blow it on replacement(s). But long term, Neymar, Ronaldo and Messi are in an arms race for the best wages in the world. It seems like they renegotiate and get a pay raise every season, if not more. There's more to this, I think. I'm not sure it's sustainable for Barca. What if Neymar, Messi or both get injured or start declining?

Agreed.

Those three are on monstrous wages and every summer seem to demand a new deal.

They are almost too big, too high profile.

Keeping one happy is one thing. Three seems unsustainable.

There is also diminishing returns on having more than one superstar.

One superstar creates buzz, fills stadiums, gets PR. Two or three does exactly the same, no more.

come on dude - do you really think that Kane is the third best player in the world??

Football is subjective so I'm absolutely fine with the idea that others may disagree that Neymar is the third best player in the world, but Harry Kane?? He's an excellent striker, but I'm not even sure he'd automatically be described as world class at this stage in his career, let alone one of the 3 best players on the planet...

Barcelona were initially after Veratti but seems they would not only not get Veratti but might lose Neymar.

Truly a case of the hunter becoming the hunted!

Let's say this was a ploy to get a pay bump...

Can Barca even afford to give him one?

There wage bill is astronomical.

If PSG can reach an agreement with Neymar for 220m euro we absolutely need to make a move right now. If he's available for that sort of money we have to win him.
We can't afford to spend €220m on a single player. We have money but not unlimited oil money.

@Rusholme Ruffian
No i don't think Kane is the third best player in the world but hes still been better than Neymar.
Overall Neymar is clearly more talented and was a beast a few years back but he hasn't reached those heights in a while.
Griezmann, Suarez, Modric have all surpassed him in Spain alone.

I don't think they could get both of them for the Neymar fee. Mbappe is being quoted at £120m alone. Dortmund would want not far off that for Dembele.

Barcelona could add a little bit of money to have both and purchase Seri for 40m€.

Kinda unfair to Neymar, he only signed one contract with Barcelona in 2013 until his new one came in March this year because it ended in 2018, it was in Barcelona best interest to sign another contract, Neymar would probably love it to be free the next summer and get a 100M signing fee with PSG for example

But the media can spill their bunch of lies permantly and then reality and lies merge together so everyone forgets what's really happening

Kane better than Neymar  Yeah okay.

Looking at their international records alone should completely halt this silly comparison

He's done at Barca after this. The transfer is not that bad for Barca. He is coming after a worse year than each of the previous two, to the point that you can say he was going from amazing 14-15 and treble, to very good, 15-16, to just good in 16-17. He is not exactly a spring chicken anymore, as he will be 26 at the start of next year. He likes to party and there is not knowing how much he can sustain a great form. And 222m. is a huge amount of money. Really doesn't seem like a player who can play as well up to 29-30 years old.

As for Barca, Pedro at RW was an insane player. It's all about the team, not about what star players you have. Madrid look better without 100m. Bale for example. Barca can do fine without Neymar. They still keep the best player in the world and the best no9 in the world. Attack is fine. They can secure a great talent like Dembele, maybe go in for Mbappe and also sign a top midfielder.

Good point.

I could definitely see Barca snapping up Griezmann if this goes through.

Griezmann is a bargain at his current release clause if this goes through.

I remember when you used to be laughed at with your transfer cost predictions. Sadly they have now ended up on the low side.

Purely from a Marketing perspective you might be right. I have absolutely no interest in getting into an inane discussion on what constitutes a superstar, but Iniesta, Suarez, etc will still be there. And Barca would still be Barca. Neymar leaving won't affect their appeal too much unless it's affecting their success on the pitch significantly.

But we agree. Keeping Messi, Neymar, Suarez and the rest of that team happy and being able to keep control of wages seems unsustainable to me. I suppose that's why I'm not so hot on having Neymar here. Some people are still blinded by bitterness or hate over Rooney's two contract negotiations, with some justification. Imagine having to through it every six months. Ugh.

What's the point of this argument? Barcelona are happy if he leaves for an absurd 200M fee, and if he doesn't leave they're not forced to sell him because his contract runs into 2021, neither will he try to go against the club in a world cup year.

Literally, is a win-win for the club, yet somehow I read everywhere that we're being screwed

I still think he's ours, just a feeling though.
