Neymar joins PSG on a five year deal

Barca should sell him for anything higher than 180m. (his buyout is higher), in which case they do have a say in this matter.
And do what with the money? This doesn't look like the right summer for losing neymar to me

Does anyone think he's the weaker link in the MSN line up? As in still a very good player. 220m is bloody good business if they can say get in Mbappe, Dybala or Alexis Sanchez (they can feck off like).
No way, Suarez is the weakest link in the MSN. Neymar is better than Suarez, it's pretty clear

Neymar will earn a fecking fortune whichever club he is at, his future and that of his family is secured already. With that in mind why go to a second rate club in a second rate competition? It will be a shame to see a talent like that plying his trade in a country where football isn't an all encompassing passion like it is in England, Spain, Italy or back home in Brazil...

Don't see why. Replacing him with a lesser player (like Dybala) would cost probably around 120m or so.

I can totally see Neymar doing a Ronaldinho sometime in the next 2 seasons. Cashing in big time now is not such a bad idea for me. As for Barca we beat Madrid on Bernabeu with no Neymar a couple of months ago. We will survive, no worries.

It is not the 300mil spend that makes me doubt we'll try to get him. I'm sure we can spend that much. As someone pointed out to me earlier in the thread though, the release clause needs to be met upfront so we cannot pay the 200mil over 4-5yrs like a normal transfer. Can't see how we can stump up that much cash upfront

That's a very minor issue, you just go to the bank and take out a loan. Similar to buying a car and not having all the cash ready, so it'd cost a few% more in interest.

bloody French and their croissants.

Seems like this could happen. Barca are in trouble if it happens. PSG on the other hand are on the up, i could see Verratti staying longer now.

France don't love football now?
France is not, and has never been, a hotbed of footballing passion like here and the other countries I mentioned. That doesn't mean that there isn't any love or passion for football there - of course not - but there is (imho) a more even spread of love for several main sports...with football probably biggest.

Half of the clubs in Ligue 1 average less than 18,000 fans per game.

I think you have taken my original comment and taken it to its extreme extent.

I remember reading last year that even Monaco had a hard time filling their stadium.

The transfer isn't an issue. 222 is not all that much.

He's gonna cost more, a lot more.

222+ 250 million for the salary.

That's the worry.

Had it been a 222 million package for 5 years, it'd be a bargain.

Biggest club in the world? Can do things in the market other clubs can only dream of?

Yet we aren't competing for the best player in the world, who is seemingly getable.

Joke.

Even Monaco? The stadium represents half of the population, they are never going to fill it.

But he is gonna bring so much for this price:
A) goals and assists -> better results in PL and CL
B) enjoyment for fans (it's always better to watch Neymar play rather than lingard, it's more enjoyable for fans)
C) new supporters across the globe -> more commercial revenues
D) new sponsors - > more commercial revenue
E) other world class players in the following transfer windows (much easier to persuade good players to come to play alongside Neymar, rather than alongside Lingard)

Yes, and he may also provide ROI if we sell him later - as we will be able to sell him for a higher price if need be

The fee is ridiculous. Neymar wants to play in a league where he can score a bazillion goals and win the baloon d'or, that isn't going to happen in England. He is also a massive ego and showing himself to being very fair-weather.

I don't know my man. 500 million is a bit too much. Spread over 10-15 years maybe. Not gonna get that output here.

The stadium seats like 20k and yet they can't fill it yes Monaco itself may not have a huge population but you also have to consider the fan base outside of Monaco. I don't what the number is but I'm sure a high percentage of the fans that attend Old Trafford aren't from Manchester.

The fee isn't crazy at all.

We just paid 75mil for Lukaku who played for Everton.

You are taking potentially the best player from a side that's in the worlds top 5.

If neymar wants to win the balon dor he is much more likely to win it in the most commercial league in the world.

We are all talk and no action.

Monaco doesn't have a big fan base outside of the area, mainly because all the regions have a big historical club, Paris, Marseille, Sainté, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nantes, Lens, Nice, etc... They are also in worst place for a small town because they are too close from Marseille, Nice is very chauvinist and up north they quickly arrive in Saint-Etienne territory.

And they are right on the Italian border!

Absolutely don't see this happening. It'll be a massive massive loss for Barca incase it does though.

Got me thinking... are we the only club in the world that can actually throw 200 million without breaking the FFP?

Bartolomeu said that no club in the world can active the Neymar clause without breaking the FFP but I think we can do it

If I'm not mistaken, several clubs can do it since the main problem regarding FFP concerns the salary. As long as they can find the 200m, clubs like Barcelona, United, Arsenal, Bayern and Real Madrid can support the salary. Most of them don't want to support that wage though. United and Real Madrid are the only club who I guess can find the 200m though.

No, all the clubs with a turnover of €500m or more can do it with a bit of planning. A 200m transfer fee can be amortized as 40m over 5 years and big clubs have seen their income grow by more than that recently.

Nope all the reliable outlets in Barcelona say this is a done deal, Neymar has left training camp in the USA via private plane with his father

Worst case, they'll pay the fine and get on with it. Or is there some more serious repercussion to it?
