Great if Conte actually joins Spuds. The amount of disrespect shown for him has been mind boggling. Then let Newcastle get Ten Haag. Would be fun.

I wonder if Conte is using this as a leverage against us or PSG, either way he'd be wise in delaying his decision until the international break.

What exactly are we going to do if we lose vs Atalanta and City?

Who exactly are we going to take on?

This is the question.

I can understand wanting to wait until the summer to make a change, particularly if their preferred options are available then.

But for all that people are saying "Ole will stay", if results get bad enough there comes a point where it's simply untenable. The board can't hold on to Ole for the season no matter what's happening on the pitch, even if that's what they'd like to do. That's not the way football works.

So if their hand is forced, what do they do with Conte no longer an option?

And we're throwing away a season where we have Ronaldo, Bruno, Cavani, Pogba, Varane, Sancho, Rshford, Greenwood and De Gea in our squad. What an absolute waste.
And from Jan onwards we will lose Pogba, VdB, Mata, Matic, Bailly, Martial, Telles, Cavani, Ronaldo and maybe more.

I feel actually depressed. Where do we go from here as a club. What are our options now? Does the club have a plan?

If the plan is Ole, I feel done. He could manage us for 20 years and we'll achieve nothing, for the squad we have he massively under achieves. For me he should have gone after the EL final, but this season is beyond comprehension that he is still here.

We have no ambition to be a winning club again. This feel like the moment we fall into the Arsenal model of just aiming for top 4.

The ownership said they would talk to the fans more. I'd love to hear and understand their sporting vision for the club, what is the minimum expectation and what is the strategy of progressing back to the top.

Have Ole as a manager is like having SAF as manager but with Championship players. The manager has to be top tier just like the playing staff.

Some people still mention Enrique but I don't think he's taking over any club before World Cup in Qatar ends and that's in December 2022. Same goes for Mancini.

Think it's clear who's available for us and none of them before May. Rodgers, ten Hag, Pochettino, Potter. It'll most probably be one of those 4.

Theyll simply keep him as manager or do something like sack him and get a random interim manager until the end of the season. It's Ole this season or a full season write off. Let's not forget how long we persisted with Moyes after repeated hammerings to big teams. The board have repeatedly shown they refuse to sack a manager to salvage a season.

This is very rich from someone who is extremely disrespectful to one of our own.
You referring to Ole? He's pretty much won a charity competition to be in charge of United and we're keeping him on as if he's some guy with a dying wish you don't want to upset. I don't give a feck if he's an ex player or not. He has to be up for the job, and as the Manchester United manager job is literally one of the biggest sporting managerial jobs in the world, it demands someone actually fit for the role. Not some fecking amateur which is what Ole is. He's not a premier league level manager, let alone one that belongs at Man United. It's a fecking joke.

Laurent Blanc could be a interesting interim, assuming he's happy doing the role.

Of course, and thanks for reinforcing my point with your post.

People need to stop romanticizing about an ex player. Good players don't make good coaches. I couldn't give a feck about how they were as players for us. United needs a good manager. Ole is not a good manager. The United board has some weird form of nepotism where Ole is above all criticism and is safe in the job despite losing 5-0 at home to Liverpool after 3 years without a trophy and looking further away than ever, despite spending more money than anyone else during this period. He isn't here on merit and that's the first problem.

He was mentioned as possible interim when Mourinho got sacked too. I think he'd be good option until May but not sure if the club would again go and hire an interim, it seems like this time they want Ole to remain in the job until summer. Who knows anymore, it'll probably change with the way results go. Lose to Atalanta and City and it's different situation again.

So it looks like we're down to Ten Haag, Poch or Rodgers. Potter's not being mentioned, despite being talented, so I'm ruling him out.

Rodgers would be a small step forward on Ole, but that's it. Better than Ole in terms of planning, shape and tactics, but similar weaknesses in defence and set pieces. Also, he's as good as he's ever going to get, don't see him hitting a new level at United. Main advantage is that he'd probably be able to go with the squad he inherits instead of having to rebuild. I could see him being the most successful in the first few months, but long term, he'd be a top 4 manager and no more.

Ten Haag would be a gamble but not a reckless one. The obvious issues would be whether he could make the step up to the Prem, whether our high profile players would respond to his instructions and whether we have the squad he would like. I think there's a lazy assumption going around that just because we have an attacking squad and Tan Haag is an attacking manager, therefore our squad would work with him. I'm not so sure. Ole has assembled a very individualistic squad of players who tend to be given a lot of freedom to play as they see fit in a given moment. Tan Haag seems to want his players to adhere far more closely to an overall plan that can be quite complex. Ole and Ten Haag might both see themselves as attacking managers, but they're at opposite ends of the scale with regards to what they ask of their players. Its hard to know which players could change from one extreme to another. Surely some of them can, but I'm guessing its not all of them.

Pochettino I always liked, but you have to say he's done crap at PSG. Personally I think it was always a bad choice for him, his style and theirs are chalk and cheese. Our team isn't quite as glitzy as PSG but we have something of the same thing going on with how profile and not very hard working attackers up front (Cavani aside). Would he be able to implement the hard pressing from the front style he excelled with at Spurs, with players like Ronaldo, Greenwood and Rashhford? Could he play a high line with Maguire and DDG in the team? Because his attempts to be a sort of Zidane style, keep-the-players-happy-and-let-them-play manager at PSG has largely failed. So we don't want him doing that kind of thing.

Certainly there's no sure fire bet at this point in time. Personally I'd lean towards Pochettino for the best balance in quality and PL experience, but there's no guarantees. What I would say is that we always seem to end up recruiting at at time when good options are thin on the ground.

@NextSeason I hope you have been adequately answered.

And yes, people have to earn respect on the job. Just because someone has some history with the club I won't sign up for his cult. But that will be too rich for you to understand.

Disrespect clearly on show here, will leave you lads to it.

Disrespect? What the feck has Ole done for United as manager where he deserves to be above criticism? Am i wrong to say he's essentially an amateur? The guys previous managerial experience outside of the Norwegian league was getting Cardiff relegated. Are we going to hire Gary Neville after Ole now? Or Ryan Giggs? Or how about let's get Rooney, he's our top scorer of all time. I don't really give 2 fecks about respecting Ole or not, he was a very good squad player in our past who had big moments for us and is in our history for that. As a manager? He's fecking inept and doing more harm than good at this point.

Says something when the only defence left for Ole is that we should respect him.

Spot on. I find it infuriating watching relegation fodder like Watford show more ambition than us. We have quite possibly the worst manager in the league (not even an exaggeration IMO) and yet our board are adamant on trying to make it work, while pissing away resources to consolidate and protect him for whatever reason. All the other big clubs at Europe are probably looking at us bemusedly wondering how the ex Cardiff and Molde coach is still at our club 3 years later despite winning nothing and spending over £400million.

It's genuinely incredible tbh. The incompetence is mind boggling. Do they really think that just any random person can be the manager of one of the biggest global sporting organizations? It's not like we're some tiny club with no expectation. It's fecking Manchester United. And a guy who wouldn't get a job in the premier league again is in charge! It's incredible.

I do wonder how serious of a coach he is? Looking at his Wikipedia, since he left as PSG manager in 2016 the only coaching job he's had is with a team in Qatar, where he's been in the job less than a year.

A lot of PSG fans think that the best football was played under him out of all the managers they've had since the Qataris took them over. He was sacked because he couldn't get over the CL semi final hurdle, and PSG want to win the CL at all cost.

To be fair - Bosnian Red is criticising Ole based on his results and presumably questioning the criticism of Conte because his results are outstanding. There’s no inconsistency there.

Pretty much this. The Ole mob are clutching at straws. It’s damning that we’re allowing another top managerial candidate to go elsewhere. Conte will make us regret it.

Is any of what you've said Ole's fault? He has been given a job and is clearly trying his best at it. Just because his best isn't good enough, doesn't give people licence to talk heaps of shit about him, like he's anything other than a club legend who has given his all whenever asked. Does any genuinely sane person expect someone to turn around and say "feck this, I'll just give up on my dream job, I probably don't have what it takes"?

.

I can only speak for myself here but I chose ten Hag due to his ability to implement a complex style of play that exerts zonal and positional control with a emphasis on possession play in a vertical axis which is pleasing on the eye. It's a style of play that has been tweaked over the decades and it's stood the test of time, from Michels, Cruyff, Sacchi, LVG, Guardiola etc, all being beneficiaries to devastating effect.

It's a style that leaves a deep imprint through-out the club if implemented correctly.

Thank you

Oh I don't blame him, he's won the managerial lottery and has every right to stick it out, pick up his £10million a year and carry on living the dream. This is definitely on the board, and also on the likes of Neville and top reds who feel like we should back him irrespective of how he performs.

Its also about being able to distinguish Ole the legendary united footballer and Ole the united manager. The former is definitely someone I and all united fans should revere for his time and achievements at the club, the latter however is an objectively poor manager who isn't good enough to manage any Premier league club, not least United. So as a United fan I will of course vent about how we're wasting season after season persisting with a lottery coach.

Brendan is a bottler. And an ex Liverpool reject. Please no.

Potter is unproven. Ten Hag seems like will go to Newcastle. Might not even want to come to Europa League United.

Pochetino is very underwhelming, PSG are playing shit football. So bad football, and not a winner either.

None of these managers are available if we lose 2 in a row now either.

Brendan and Potter would be available immediately I reckon, its just whether the board would be willing to pay their release clauses. As for Ten Hag joining Newcastle - they might not even be in the premier league next season, and even if they survive I don't think he's going to want to take them over during this early period of their inevitably ascension.

We should just avoid any ex players tbh.

What is the worst thing that could happen? The ex player caretake manager getting some wins, have a undeserved win in the CL which makes the board give him a permanent deal? No way our board would be that stupid. Im sure they wait out till the season ends and see if what is the best option....

If the board actually have a plan to go for a more progressive thinking manager in the summer then I can accept that. I just hope they’re prepared for this manager to inform them that the likes of Maguire, De Gea, and AWB are not in his plans and require replacement.
