Sounds good. To me it's vital that the club fully dives into ETH's vision. Those who aren't "feeling it" can leave. Given the reports we've had of players not wanting to put the work in and others who are tactical headaches, a manager having bad/difficult eggs forced upon him will struggle to see his ideas reflect well in performances.

That is why if he is the man to take over, he needs time, same way Klopp etc got time to build his team. Can't be expected total magic straight away with come of these chancers but defo think he will improve their performances.

Just need to improve on the quality to take us to the need step.

Expecting loads of youth to be involved. Don't think anyone would complain about that

Too soon?

Well I feel sorry for ETH then as Fergie would have inherited a better Utd team then than what ETH is going to get next season and while Fergie had to compete with a very good Liverpool and Everton side they are not on the level that the Pool and Citeh sides are today.
Alex had about 4-5yrs before we started to look like we could really kick it with the big boys so it will be interesting to see how long we are going to stick with the next candidate.

The comparison is non-sense... different era and different rules.

Back then only 3 foreigners were allowed per team, neither current City or Liverpool would look as they do without foreigners, i believe City only has 2 english starters in Sterling and Foden.
As a consequence of that rule, SAF didn't rely on foreigners either to compete back then.

What SAF did is definitely bigger than what ETH has done.
SAF won the scottish league with Aberdeen, and won the two european trophies with an underdog team.

SAF was smaller risk than ETH, who has only won Eredivisie with the biggest dutch team (Ajax).

Plus dutch managers , except Hiddinks, have been underwhelming in modern PL.

Depends on what you mean by 'cheap'. £10-20m? Sure. But we also can't just splurge all our transfer kitty on one or two expensive signings and except to be much better off.

What we really should be looking to do is sign a bunch of players who are all under £40m or so. None of them might be amazing on the individual level, but we need to rebuild our team with a solid base of players who actually suit playing with each other and the style that the new manager and club want to move to. Of course the hope is that some of those players actually take the step up to being truly top players themselves. Then in the future we top that up with one or two big expensive signings a season (much the same way this Liverpool team was built).
Agree with everything you have said. We can’t blow our whole budget on 1 or 2 players. 3-4 players around 30-40m range and 1-2 under 20m or free would be great for us.
Antony, Tielemens/Neves, Nkunku etc would be gettable around that price and then target the likes of Kamara for free and allot 15-20m for a rb.

Yeah you just know Ralf is absolutely hammering the Ten Hag drum but the board have Fergie in their ear talking up Pochettino

Do we actually know Fergie is pushing Pochettino? He’s also met ten Hag and must be able to see what he’s doing at Ajax.

Yeah but that one report said so, therefore it has to be true.

Frogie out

This is starting to be more of a distraction for Ajax than it would be if he was announced.

Yeah as I said, guesswork. Do people genuinely go through life thinking Romano et al aren’t making shit up and taking educated guesses too? He’s been wrong tonnes of time and when you watch his interviews he leaves so much open to interpretation and sounds exactly like one of those grifter mediums you see on the tele.

Even if Mazaoui wants Bayern nobody knows what he’ll do if his current manager gets in his ear about United with a higher wage all of a sudden.

But it’s besides the point really. Historically the Dutch league has been a good source of players and we’ve had success there, usually at a fair price. Having a manager who - understands the league, the language, has respect of the players, has local contacts, and is managing one of the best Ajax teams in decades who have 4/5 sought after stars and an amazing youth setup - is obviously a good thing.

Edit: 40m € doesn’t sound too bad for a star attacking player. We got VDB for a bit cheaper than the reported amounts leading up up it, too.
Its not guesswork.

Romano has a lot more right than wrong. Even if we grant him as being some aggregator of tier one sources, hes still often feeding news that's very credible.

I think theres a ton of clickbait shit going round but its silly to just bucket all journalism as guesswork.

We're not getting ten Hag, I refuse to believe it. I am just waiting for the Poch announcement with Gary Neville shining his boots.

Hope I'm wrong, of course.

This only came in for european competition in 1991, not domestic. He started managing in 1886 and most domestic teams only had British and Irish, with a few spatterings of foreign players. I remember Atkinson signing Muhren and Olsen. I think Kanchelskis was Fergies first foreign signing that played regularly.

Pep has been bigging Ten Haag up in his press conference yesterday saying he is great and could be his successor. He is trying to jinx us again like he did with Sanchez, Fred and Maguire......12 months time we will be saying 'but don't forget City were after him he must be good :)

You are right. Bobby Robson signed Muhren when he was at Ipswich. Carlo Satori was the first non British player to play for United. He played in 1968 and then went back to Italy and played there. He was eligible as he came to UK when he was a kid and probably had dual nationality.
The foreigner rule hampered everyone and it was implemented even in Spain. If not Barca would have played Hugo Sotil with Cruijff and Neeskens together. What a team that was.

If the deal is done and it’s ETH, I’d be interested in having him join us ASAP and get a jump on working with the team now to prepare for next season.

pay the fecking release clause now. Unless he truly doesn’t want to leave Ajax in the lurch. Admirable, but doesn’t help us any.

same goes for Pochettino.

Not sure if you are serious but in case you are, nobody in their right mind would leave the club fighting for the title and 6 matches remaining.

Living in an absolutely delusional fantasy world if you think he's going to leave Ajax before the end of the season.

Alright Goldbridge.

And in a cup final.

Job done.

seriously though, if it is ETH, he’s going to need ALOT of time on the training pitch with this squad to install his philosophy. Is the summer and preseason enough time?

I mean, what do you want/expect to happen exactly?

He's in a tight title race there. He's not leaving any earlier than end of season.
