Funny how from excitement about ETH people quickly turned to bashing Fletcher. Vintage cafe.
A lot of it dates from when he was a player.

For years he was underwhelming and inconsistent, and people (myself included) were fed up with him constantly getting picked. Around the end of 06/07 he suddenly stepped up and started to perform consistently, yet lots of people who’d already made up their minds he was shit weren’t prepared to concede that maybe he wasn’t.

I really hope the new manager doesn’t get a specific ex-player foisted on him, as LvG seemed to be with Giggs. I’m also not keen on the ex-player being anyone that has close ties with the current dressing room. But that still leaves plenty for them to choose from. If Ralf recommended Fletcher for the role, having worked closely with him and rated him sufficiently, then he’d be getting the job on merit.

That said, it’s hardly surprising that people are sceptical having lived with United through the last decade. It’s hard to tell how much of the moaning is born of genuine frustration, and how much is simply trolling. Right now I think I can see green shoots of actual change and am prepared to cut the instigators some slack.

Has anyone wondered if after that interview Ten Hag might not actually want the job?

Everyone’s talking Like it’s just a matter of us picking him but I suspect it’s not that black and white.

You dont know either but you shit on him. As per usual.

I know I’d rather Paul Mitchell.

There was talk ETH would be left to coach the team like he does now. I’m really not for Fletcher providing him with Kane and Rice.

Its strange people cant let go of their opinion they had 15 years ago though if that's the case.
As for frustration I get it but even when there's something positive happening and its not a lot it gets buried under pile of negative stuff and simply bashing of ex player, Fletcher being an example.

Yeah now this is just real negativity. I mean why would he not want the job?

You know for a fact Fletcher would 'provide him' with Kane and Rice? Although providing ETH probably wouldnt even be his job.

It’s not even bashing. We are crap and we have a guy who clearly got appointed under a regime of mates rates. That’s all it is. Maybe he’ll turn out to be the next Steven Gerrard or the next Paoulo Maldini, Zidane… who knows.

But right about now he’s not done nothing and our head coach doesn’t know what he does.

I don’t but I’ve not heard anything of him recommending or likening any players except a defender from Stoke.

Well I’m sure part of his job title is to convince players to join the club. I doubt that spreads internationally.. probably more influential in England. Hence Rice and Kane.. just that there is no past experience of it.

We'd have been made aware 5 minutes after the interview if that was the case via the same streams who said the interview was positive.

Could Van Nistelrooy be a candidate if this was to be true?

If I remember correctly from his podcast with Rio a while back he was coaching at the academy at Feyenoord

Edit: Saw that he’s assistant manager for the Dutch national team as well

As we concluded earlier you dont have a clue about his job. Just taking blank shots cause you want to bash Fletcher.

Yeah, maybe, journalist’s love a negative United story but the “interview” was only a couple of days ago, maybe I’ve been burnt by the Disneyland comments but I get the fear when the board of this club open their mouths.

Jaap Stam potentially as well.

What in your opinion should he do to prove he does something which would satisfy you?

Those Disneyland comments were a long time ago by a man who isn’t here anymore, Murtough is very much a football man.

Some fans won't be happy until we cut all ties to the past and become another soulless club. It won't be long until they are calling for the renaming of the SAF and Charlton stands.

If Ole or the former United players were successful then no one would have complained about it. The trouble is that United had been shit for nearly a decade and despite all that these people (alongside the likes of Jon Murtough and co) keep getting promoted.

Depends on if your question is about excitement about him getting the job, in which case its looking positive. If you are asking about getting excited for the future with United under him, I would temper any expectations by pointing out how difficult a task managing United under the current ownership is.

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised by how much difference a top class manager, backed by a top class coaching staff makes. Assuming that is what we do of course. All the candidates has shown themselves capable of changing their tactical plan on the fly in response to the opposition, something we haven't had since 2016-2017. That in itself will help with results. The majority of games we've drawn and/or lost since Ralf's appointment has been because we have been incapable of meeting tactical changes the opposition makes. There are so many points wasted on that this season, if you take away those we easily make top four, likely progress in the CL and begin competing for top three - despite having a sub-optimal squad with a weak midfield.

Since Ten Hag is favorite to land the job, it should be pointed out that he in particular has an incredible statistic when it comes to creating a system that works with the players at his disposal - Ajax has scored 80 goals in 27 matches, conceding just 13. That is astounding no matter how you look at it. He has like a 74% win rate over his time at Ajax, which is borderline unreal. Add his time at Utrecht and you're still looking at 64/65%. Clearly he knows how to get a squad playing to the limits of their abilities - hopefully that translates when he starts working with "bigger" stars and a much bigger budget (Ajax eecord transfer is £25M for Onana IIRC)

We will probably still buy players for silly money for marketing reasons, but as long as we follow through on hiring world class coaches and let him develop his system we should be seeing considerable progress made within a relatively short time span. Ralf has done quite a bit with our positioning, chance creation and players adhering to a system in a short amount of time - he and his staff are just awful at making the necessary changes during matches to get the results as well, or simply bad coaching (set pieces, finishing, composure). Ten Hag does not suffer from that deficiency, so there is no reason to believe he can't get similar improvements both in team performance and results rather quickly. Provided he gets players and coaches capable of implementing his preferred system.

Personally I think the same is true for all three leading candidates, so all in all I think there is certainly room for optimism at this point.

I honestly think a lot of people are sleeping on Rodgers here. He has come a long way in the last five years. Has shown real character and really developed as a manager. I admit he has a lower ceiling than Erik, but I think he has a much higher floor though. I really see Erik as being a really big gamble and a gamble I'm not sure this club should be taking at this juncture. Can this club survive another horrific managerial appointment?

Has anyone wondered if after that interview Ten Hag might not actually want the job?

Well if he doesn’t want it he can feck right off!

Should I get excited about all the Ten Hag rumors, or am I going to end up getting disappointed?

I'm not getting excited. They've to interview 3 other managers and may call some back in again before it's done so there'll be a lot of column inches and feck knows how many pages on here filled before the appointment.

No we concluded you don’t know nothing. I’ve checked out bits here and there. Which is why you didn’t even bother confirm or deny him recommending a player from Stoke City.

I just hope it doesn’t turn out like Van Gaal.

He was obsessed with getting his team to pass pass pass, that they forgot how to even shoot and score, in the end!
Indeed that’s how it’s gonna be, they use the ball rotation to create openings. That’s how the Dutch and more so Ajax philosophy is. I just hope he is able to sign the right players for his system unlike LVG. Van Gaal philosophy was correct but his mistake was not able to sign the right players for his style. Wingers are very crucial IMO to take on the defender, beat a man and creating spaces. Also the fullbacks are very important to overlap, decoy runs, and openings for it to work. If not then it’s gonna seem boring and it would be just pass, pass and pass. But to be totally honest I wouldn’t mind that even if it seems boring. I’m sick of us being totally outplayed, not able to control a game, playing like underdogs and panicking when we have keep the ball.

If we do hire ETH then the first thing the club should do is to get some good fullbacks and wingers. Shaw and telles maybe fine but Awb and dalot just won’t work. Same goes for the RW position. I hope we sign a good RB and either Raphinha or Antony for RW. Ironically for the striker position I think ten hag would love Ronaldo not because he is Ronaldo but because of his runs, finishing and creating spaces for others to exploit.

Bits from Mirror or Sun I bet.
Your posts are such a mess.

You laugh. But where do you get your knowledge about the club? Do you look into a hat?
No, I must admit I dont get an extensive knowledge about the club like you do, from bits here and there. Like when you read somewhere Fletcher recommended a player from Stoke so you got all you need to know about him and his job at the club.

We love to complicate things. Picking right manager is the most important thing and it is good to be pedantic in this but we are making reality show now about that. All these details going in public about who, when and where we do interviews is too much.

The story goes that back in 2019 when Fletcher was still a player and playing for Stoke alongside an 18 yr old Irish defender Nathan Collins who impressed Fletcher, he apparently recommended the club take a look at him.

Fairly standard stuff and hardly a black mark against his name. It's laughable this was brought up as a negative.
