Did you read the articles? As I didn’t.

So please highlight the bits where it says if we don’t get Poch we will go for Don Carlo next and by all means I will apologise.

The articles all said, Sir Alex was recommending that we should appoint Ancelotti if we can't get Poch.

Google it.

It's short-sightedness and shows how bad this club has become.

It doesn't look too good. If you can't get the first guy I recommended then get the second guy I recommend.

Manchester United are considering Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti as a surprise short-term backup option.

United are eager to make a long-term appointment in the summer, with Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino and Ajax's Erik Ten Hag among their preferred candidates.

However, as reported by ESPN, United have a contingency plan which would involve attempting to bring in Ancelotti.

As if we have a contingency plan !!

The Times pretty much said the same. Hirst mentioned Poch, ten Hag and Enrique as top targets with Ancelotti considered as a back up option.

Hirst mentions Fergie and Ancelotti's close relationship but nothing on him recommending Poch/Carlo.

I would prefer us to make a move for a younger forward, especially now when you-know-who's career is likely and rightly fecked. Now, i'm not implying Kane's over the hill but we really need to move on from signing forwards who's best days are behind them, which I think Kane's are even though he's obviously still a very good forward. Also, his fee would just be mad.

agreed

All these Reports apart from Poch, ETH & Enrique being on a shortlist just sounds like Journalists trying to be the one to claim they knew who was getting the job before anyone else.

Ancellotti is a last resort if nobody we really want, fancies joining.

RR needs to go upstairs, the rest will fall into place then.

Ogden and O'Hanlon think we should go with Nagelsmann but agree he won't leave Bayern for it, so they reckon we should go for Pochettino instead. They also wonder if ETH will be a success of be "another Moyes" as if ETH isn't 10x the manager Moyes is already.

Ancelotti doesn't make any sense to me no matter how I look at it. It would mean Ten Hag, Poch and Enrique straight up refused to come to United at all. Not just this summer. So in that case is Ancelotti a long-term option or a short-but-longer-than-interim option? I'd rather have other managers, like Potter or Hasenhuttl, if it's the former. And if it's the latter, then why can't we just stick with Rangnick, unless he also absolutely refused, in which case I'd again rather we approach Potter and Hasenhuttl?

So to sum it up, for Ancelotti to make any sense you need:
1. Ten Hag, Poch and Enrique turn down Manchester United permanently.
2. Rangnick refuses to be manager for another year.
3. Manchester United pass on managers like Potter and Hasenhuttl in favor of Ancelotti.

I'm still in the Enrique camp, it looks a long shot, so out of the usual suspects, I'd go for Poch because he's managed in the Premier league and big players.

I wonder if it's possible to update the poll? It's obvious options like Rose, Mancini and Zidane are out of the picture. But Enrique, Lopetegui, and now Ancelotti should be put there. All names we've been linked up with. Curious to see how they rank here.

Why Hassenhuttl?

Ralph sacked him when he didn't think he was good enough and replaced him with himself.

He has been beaten 9-0 twice once by us.

His teams play ok football, but wouldn't say they blow teams away.

Or is it because he looks like Klopp with a Tracksuit & Cap?

Poch is a bit of a paradox.

He is more likely to be available the more poorly he manages, but we are less likely to want him the more poorly he manages.

Don’t see it happening, unless he really wants to come here.

Cocks out lads

I think this as well. Just too much smoke with Ralf, Arnold and even Mortough for it to be a nothing burger.

Nothing wrong with Ancelotti, but just like Mourinho his best days are behind him. Just like Mourinho he would have been a perfect appointment in 2013, but now it's a bit too late for that.

I don't disagree. His best is probably behind him but I've been impressed with his work at Real. He's a decent third or fourth option

Really hoping Real Madrid crash out terribly next week and have their hand forced when it comes to their pursuit of Poch.

So you wouldn't want a manager who wins convincingly against one of the top teams in Europe? Not a logical thought process.

Ten years ago, Ancelotti would have been a great managerial choice, especially to succeed Sir Alex.

But the first three words are key.

If we’re going to take a gamble on a manager and we could no longer get pochettino or ten Haag then I’d go for the Southampton manager. A lot of people are mentioning potter but I think the way rangnick is trying to get United to play would fit in with how hasenhuttl likes to play… also he’s shown that he’s capable of putting good runs together as we’ve seen quite a few times with Southampton.

He's also shown he's capable of getting twatted 9-0 every now and again. Not for me thanks. The weepy tears on show after he beat Liverpool was the final straw.

Sir Alex got leathered 6-1 but people stood by him and let him grow as a manager. Plus we had a better defence when we conceded 6. Southamptons defence is a shambles and they do sell there best players every year… Liverpool took halve of them.

If this club thinks with its head and behaves in an ambitious way for once, then they should be audacious and make a play for tuchel, it has the potential to a be perfect pairing of ragnick as the sporting director and tuchel as our manger, the teacher and the student.

Enrique would be my number one choice. Over ten Haag and Poch. Enrique is a proven winner, has a progressive football philosophy and knows how to deal with the circus element of managing United (intense media attention, big egos, etc) after thriving with Barcelona.

Wouldn't be against Ralf staying until December and Enrique takes over.

If not, I can almost guarantee City going for Enrique next summer replacing Pep.

Clearly that 6-1 was a freak result. He also had multiple league titles in the bank to fall back on. What has Hasenhuttl got behind him? He's been leathered 9-0 on more than one occasion, not at any point whilst he's been in the league have Southampton been the worst team in the league. I haven't seen any other team get smashed like they have been. Twice.

Not a brilliant source but David Ornstein and Simon Peach follow him.

Would be perfect if this happens… I’m sure ralf would happily stay until Enrique becomes available. Can see him going to city though… it makes perfect sense, a like for like replacement on pep. When do we ever get top managers that play an exciting brand of football.
