According to his LinkedIn page, Eduardo Tunchel is Senior Legal Manager at Genesis. He has 10+ years international corporate / commercial, Legal 500-ranked experience. He's also passionate about wine and spirits, holding the title of French Wine Scholar and a WSET 3 Advanced Certificate by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.

Sounds like the perfect replacement for Woodwoodwoodwood.

Is he related to Thomas Tuchel?

Doubt it, difference surname

Admittingly, that was not something I considered. Good point. Still, Koeman raised the win% from 38% to 48%- in the PL. Thats a major difference.

Yes, helped by the fact that Koeman took over the team in its third full season in the PL, after they'd just achieved their best points tally of the Premier League era under Pochettino.

Spurs also achieved their best league finish and points tally of the Premier League era under Pochettino. And his win rate with them in the PL (which is how to do these comparisons if you want to - all competitions numbers aren't apples-to-apples, especially if one manager plays in the CL and the other's in the Europa) is higher than Villas Boas's. Or any other Tottenham manager, from what I recall.

Give him the role he wants then because we already know him & Murtough are friends, however unlike the Toy Story puppet & Hey Arnold actually know about Football.
He is eyeing the DoF. Doubt it Mortough will step aside willingly and let Ragnick take over.

It'd be easier to count which managers Manchester United haven't been in contact with, if all the media is to be believed. Crazy! I hope the club reaches a decision at some point.

[Paul Hirst, The Times] PSG won’t let Mauricio Pochettino leave for Manchester United mid-season
  • Unless Pochettino forces an exit in the coming weeks, it appears that United will have to wait until next summer to secure his services.
  • Conversations have already taken place with Ernesto Valverde, the former Barcelona manager. Lucien Favre, previously at Borussia Dortmund, is also a possibility, as is Laurent Blanc and Ralf Rangnick.
  • The executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is also playing a leading role in the recruitment process. The co-chairman Joel Glazer will have the final say on whoever is appointed.

Who cares at this point when we still have these two clowns making the final decisions. All that talk about Fletcher and Murtagh was just salad dressing.

Bring Ten Hag as the permanent manager.
They haven't been at their best, obviously resting a few players, but there's still so much to like about their tactics:

6 or 7 players joining in every attack, opposition box packed.
Stylish, fast interplay with non-stop off ball movement. Always a passing option available.
Really well drilled team press.
Even a couple of really creative set-pieces.

I want to see more of this type of football at OT next season. Reminicing of the old Fergie days.

Joel Glazer

Rudi Garcia, Lucien Favre the latest names linked. Needless to say there is serious guess work going on by UK journalists at the moment and they will boast about their guess work if they happen to be right.

It's almost as if appointing a Director of Football and a Technical Director was a complete waste of time.

Joel will always have final say, Murtough and Fletcher are essentially consultants but at least they are identifying targets and completing an interview process - this is already a big improvement on the process after Mourinho was sacked.

Everything points to Ten Hag being a potentially world class manager (if he isn't one already). It'd be a shame to not go after him in the summer, especially if he's interested in being here.

Yeah at least they are involved in the process

It’s interesting how open the United hierarchy seem to be about the interim manager process, makes me think they’re trying to force Poch to push for an exit at PSG.

Rangick is the brainfather of gegenpressing with both Klopp and Tuchel heavily inspired by his ideas. Since Ten Hag is a Pep/Cruyff disciple it would seem more fitting to get a coach who can start to prime the squad for those kinds of principles like Favre or Valverde to an extent. @Adnan is probably better than me at explaining this.

The Dutch were using gegenpressing (counter-pressing) in 1974, Ragnick is not the brains behind it. Even he admitted in an interview that he picked it up by watching videos of Sacchi's AC Milan. Without going into some of the more outlandish claims of Rangnick - and the supposed notion that he has rejected AC Milan, Chelsea, Us, Everton, the German national team, and despite being chased by the biggest teams in the world somehow wound up at Lokomotiv Moscow - Klopp has repeatedly said that he was influenced by Arrigo Sacchi (who was in turn inspired by the dutch) and Wolfgang Frank (who said he was influenced by Arrigo Sacchi).

The dutch

Arrigo Sacchi

Jurgen Klopp

Rinus Michel employed both a relenteless high press, and a zonal press as manager of the netherlands in 1974. That is the father of the original gegenpress. You can draw a straight line from Klopp to Frank to Sacchi to Michel. This is also why you see someone like Marcelo Bielsa and Pep Guardiola use a high press. The common denominator is Rinus Michel.

Owner having a final say in one of the most important appointment at the club. Shocker.
Yeah the same owner who's taken shite decision after decision and a month away from 2022 still has Woodward operating in some comical dof role. None of those clowns should have any say at all. But they don't want to hire decent competent guys for the roles because they want all power themselves.

Yeah quite simple really, but people would rather get angry at something fairly logical. Joel is obviously going to take advice from the people in the know anyway.
Should people not be upset that the entire setup responsible for crucial decisions are absolutely inept and never were qualified for their roles in the first place? The same Joel Glazer who handed Ole a 3 year extension after losing the EL final when there was no need for an extension in the first place and the same Joel Glazer who decided to keep Ole even after it was blatantly obvious his time was done now leaving CL qualification in jeopardy.

It's very naive to think an owner of a business won't have the final say on any decision that significantly affects the business.

- for beginners, he has a higher managerial ceiling than Poch. Footballing fans know where Poch stands amongst the worlds best, and it’s 1or2 tiers below the Pep’s/Klopp’s/Zidane’s/etc of the world. His current tenure at PSG proves he doesn’t have it in him to ascend much further. His level is his level imho (aka it’s above average/good but when there’s better candidates out there, it’s silly to put it lightly to not consider them).

- Ten Hag truly has all the elements of being a managerial prodigy. Can’t say the same about Poch. He was potentially considered one a few years back but that flash has gone away as people have come to discover.

- Poch having a track record (past&present) of problems when it comes to controlling players and their ego’s within the locker room and an inability to cohesively work with his clubs board are glaring red flags as a potential candidate for the United job.

- Ten Hag has more intricate patterns of play and is much more flexible/adaptable with the players at his disposal. Poch will more or less live&die with his run-and-gun, balls to the wall style which is why he hasn’t sustained much if any long term successes.

here’s a couple of videos for those who aren’t aware of both managers style of play:

If we were to hire Poch its not that I wouldn’t be content. It’s just that I rate Ten Hag over him considerably more. He has a lot more methods up his sleeves while not being so overly reliant on 1 certain way to get the job done. I also find it’d be fitting for someone up and coming like him to call this new generation United squad his own rising in unison altogether — both the manager & players.

Locker room haha

Rangnick is the father of the GERMAN gegenpress.. And Arrigo Sacchi's Milan is pretty much the role model of all modern football, including Pep Guardiola's Barcelona :smirk:

Imo .a new manager needs to come in now, just hope if it's poch there after needs to come now. I see no point in Carrick doing it for rest of season. There are loads of games left. What happens if he goes a great run . ? Hope he does do they then go with him ?

Poch: "Hit them on the counter. If you can't do that, just dick around for 3 minutes passing safely around your own defence."

How can a manager be washed up at 49? Actually about 46...his teams have been a painful watch for years; even when they win.

He's got one of the best teams ever assembled playing like Nuno's Wolves.

What makes Rangnick the father of the German gegenpress? If we're talking about the model popularised by Klopp, as an ideology of football, why isn't he the father of the German style gegenpress?

Edit:
You know what, never mind. I'll just accept that Rangnick was influenced by Sacchi and that he was one of very few coaches in Germany who used a relentlessly high press fairly early on. I still don't understand why that makes him the father of the German gegenpress, but that is neither here nor there. I just think Klopp deserves as much credit the for the style of football he designed, what we today generally refer to as the gegenpress, as Guardiola does for his.

It's normal at every club that the board and owners are involved. It's the same at Leipzig, Liverpool, Milan etc. Sporting directors can't appoint people by forking out money from their own pocket.

I agree with our strategy (hopefully we’ll stick with it).

Let’s appoint an interim till the end of the season, and go after whoever goes further in the champions league, Haag or Poch.

Fair play to Pep for trying to do his best to accelerate the Poch process for us

He owes us this. He could of battered us 4-0. But decided to keep the score respectable and give Ole one more game to recover.

Had to google more about Rangnick because of the posts above dismissing him. Thought I’d share this interesting NYTimes piece from 2020. It does read like Rangnick was indeed the main influencer of pressing high up the pitch in Germany, among other modern-day football norms:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/08/sports/soccer/man-united-RB-leipzig-ralf-rangnick.html

My main concern on someone like him is whether he’s a has-been because the likes of Klopp have taken his vision to the next level, something that he acknowledges.. It could turn out to be a LVG all over again.
