The club announced that an interim manager will be sought yet the stories are Pochettino or Rodgers now? Something doesn't add up.

Yeh, they're morons who don't know what they're doing.

We could hire an interim like Rangnick, and give ourselves time to properly evaluate the best candidate out of ETH, Poch, Lopetegui, maybe a couple of others that aren't squat little northern irishmen.

But Ed's got a better idea. Let's throw money at Leicester, PSG and Zidane's wife immediately and see what sticks.

I’m somewhat soured on Poch during his PSG stint due to the absurd riches he has in that squad and whilst winning a lot of games, never looking sensational.

However I also acknowledge that PSG is a fecking circus that is stacked with egos in both the dressing room and the boardroom, and you’ve got to be some kind of superhuman to deal with all of it.

I think the best way to settle this is who has the best hair and for me it's Pochettino.

We have to think of what the players are when they look to the bench for inspiration and I don't see Ronaldo being inspired by people with no hair or poor hair styles.
This is more like it.

Oh no, Custis isn't 100% reliable but he has some sources for sure.

Strange that he doesn't want to see out the season at PSG, win the league and have a chance at the champions league. I suppose he knows if gets knocked out the CL quarter finals, he'll probably get sacked the next day so he won't even get to say he won the league.

He may also not want to miss the boat on the United job knowing we may go with someone else if he doesn't take it right now.

I'm not a massive fan, of the speculated candidates he'd be 3rd choice behind Ten Hag and Zidane.

Sometimes you want to feel appreciated by people who work for you. So many big ego in that PSG team, i'm guessing managing there is very unpleasant. There's more than money for top managers.

I agreed with you that he's my 4th choice behind Enrique, Ten Hag, and Zidane. So far with positive response is Ten Hag. Give Ten Hag anything he wants, tempt him with 30-50m signing fee if he's willing to come now. We need to act like big ass rich CLub.

I think he's done a good job just still being there and it not going completely tits up yet. Having to try to implement pressing to Mbappe, Neymar and Messi must be mission impossible and it's no wonder they've looked a lot better whenever one of the three are not playing.

Okay, so no to Pochettino then? Regardless of what he does this season?
I never said that, I'm just pointing out your statement is innacurate. Winning 3 titles and 2 cups in 3 years in the Eredivisie is literally doing more in a lesser league.

You know what gets the most clicks right now?

<manger name> in talks with United - exclusive

We’ve had reports of Enrique, Zidane, Ten Hag, Rodgers, Pochettino, Blanc and Lopetegui linked to being in talks and Solskjaer was only sacked last night. Big list to get through yet.

You're forgetting Amorim who was also mentioned in the telegraph article.

I'm a bit underwhelmed with everyone we have been linked with to be honest.

Tuchel I think would have been the right fit for us, but we've lost that opportunity.

I think the standards in managers (especially those who could be immediately available is very poor) However, anyone has to be better than Carrick.

We need an older head and better coaches to see us through till end of season, unless United got say a permanent manager in now.

Also, we need someone to have the balls to balance the team, even if that means Benching Ronaldo if necessary.

I can definitely understand Poch wanted to leave but he could also stick it out 6 months and collect his trophies and resign in the summer. Going from a certain league title and possible CL at PSG to scrapping for top 4 from a bad position with United is a big step down for this season.

I didn't include Enrique just because there's so little speculation around him and it's so unlikely he'd leave Spain before the world cup.

Yeah, obviously that's what I'm saying. So we're judging Rodgers solely on this season?
His previous 2 seasons he practically had top 4 in his hands and blew it both times after finishing both seasons horrendously. This year they are looking completely dull. Okay he won the FA cup but if we end up with him with all the other candidates available we will be in this same exact position in 2 years. He's a medicore manager.

To each their own. I'd be curious to see what he could do with our squad. I think Ten Hag is more of a gamble and there isn't much in it between Rodgers and Poch. Who would be your choice?

iirc the only manager Castles has linked us with is Zidane and Brendan and this was before Ole was sacked.
He's said United like Poch and Brendan, but Zidane is first choice. But he's not said anything more since last night.

Whilst it is bizarre he's the only one really talking about Zidane, he's proved his connections at board level yesterday so I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's likely correct about Zidane too. And we know he has connections with agents/players/managers so it's not that hard to believe he's got a source close to Zidane as he claims.

It seems likely we've tried and failed to convince him.

Im curious what has Ten Hag proven over Poch outside of winning a Dutch league that even average managers have done?

I don't think either is average but I don't see why Ten Hag has so much traction and Poch has so much resistance.

TBF, that's the way to do it. Engage both, work out general terms, then let them both know they're up against each other. From there it's "Whoever calls me back first gets the job."
Agree mate. But if Poch is really going to throw his hat in the ring now (which is unsubstantiated) and Ten Hag is saying ‘I’ll think about it at the end of the season’ then it’s likely to go only one way with this board.

Enrique already said today "is this April's fools" I'm not leaving Spain.

Zidane is probably a Mendes client? Castles works for Mendes so he gets a lot of his info that way.

Make sense. It's risk and reward. He might be out of job this Summer, and risking to manage a big CLub like United.

Honestly think PSG could let Poch go to get Zidane in

I think given the option Poch would walk but for the fact if he holds on for the season it’s pretty much a guaranteed league title, something sorely missing from his CV at the moment.

All things considered, I reckon he’s the most likely candidate.

The noises about Rodgers are worrying but surely even our hierarchy aren’t stupid enough to hire someone from a team who are doing shite this season and got beat 3-0 just yesterday.

This is where I'm at. Reminds me of Marco Rose not long ago. Was the next big thing but not mentioned much now.

Honestly Ten Hag. I like the fact that he has a clear style and sticks with it. The way Ajax plays is very entertaining to watch. The way they smashed dortmund, how they played with such confidence, how every player knew exactly what to do, their work off the ball as well as their work with the ball when transitioning to attack was exciting to see. I agree it would be a gamble but we could say the same with Poch and Rodgers.

However I'd much rather take the gamble on Ten Hag based on how I've seen Ajax play compared to the sides Rodgers and Poch has managed. Poch is a little bit worrying for me because there's been so many times I've seen his sides play incredibly dull football.

It's almost like the press don't know anything. (the board most likely don't either)

I don't believe he's a Mendes client.

However Julen Lopetegui is I think and he was mentioned by Castles and others earlier as someone who was "presented" as an option to United, clearly Mendes trying to get his client an upgrade. I don't see how he could ever be a serious option given we'd have to buy him out his Sevilla contract and we'd only do that for a long-term target.

Couple of reasons- PSG aren't doing exactly great despite the stars. It's the same star studded line up here too. So there could be question marks.

Poch isn't an attacking manager like everyone thinks while ETH is. Poch plays cautious football many times and it just won't sit with lot of fans (including me ). I would really like to dominate games against City and Liverpool. Tired of defend and counter, against the big guns.

I don't think Pochettino would make the "revolution" the club needs. Ten Hag seems to be much more convinced with a philosoph, signings, youth development and so on.

Pochettino's stint with PSG is just worrying and I don't think his Tottenham side played amazing eye-pleasing football like most think.

When Ten Hag and him faced off in the CL, Ten Hag's Ajax looked clearly superior on the ball/off the ball and Pochettino had to resort to bringing on Llorente to bypass their press. They were lucky they progressed through. I thought they got battered in both legs.

Poch is a known entity with very good European credibility but ended his Spurs term with not so encouraging position. It is more likely his ceiling. So if people satisfy with his SPurs achievement, he's the man.

Then Ten Hag play nice football, experience with big club as Ajax, and has pretty nice Europe journey constantly. It feels like SAF all over again.

On my part, i'd like to "gamble" with supposedly a "growth" manager as we are against Pep and Klopp. A "very good" manager just won't cut it, for me.

No manager will show their best work at PSG. Poch shows his ability to adapt with PSG knowing their front 3-4 do feck all work, so he has to counter as an approach. We all know Spurs were a high press side so it's obvious case of horses for courses here.

People seen to like ETH because he's got a fancy style in Ajax that's brilliant to watch but still just as unproven as far as managerial CV goes.

United beat Villarreal and they offer Carrick a 6 year deal with the option of another year.

If his ceiling is to take fecking Tottenham Hotspurs to the Champions League final losing to one of the best performing first XIs in Premier League history then sure, thats his ceiling. I would take that all day long at United because even Conte isnt taking them that far.
