Next Man Utd Manager Expected To Be Jose Mourinho Or David Moyes

^I'm afraid most of us here detest Mourinho more than everything, I believe deep down they know he's the best man for the job, they just don't like him

Sky, many of you points about what may happen when SAF leaves i agree with, i just cannot agree that Mourinho's way is the only solution. I see no evidence in any of his previous jobs to indicate he is anything other than a short term fix.

You appear much more concerned with having success, above any other consideration, fair enough. I on the other hand, am not. I am much more concerned about keeping who we are and what we represent, rather than simply winning trophies.

Your views are best interpreted using your own words: "As much as we value our tradition in attacking football, youth, history and stuff.. it only matters if you won something."

In that one statement you have soberingly summed up the differing opinions between younger trophy driven fans, and fans who love the club for what it means to them, not for the trophies or bragging rights it allows them.

What and who a club represents is what gives them their spirit and their sense of identity. The traditions are simply born from an appreciation outside the club of those particular traits. Remember we still held the same principles and traditions even when we were not as successful during the 70's and 80's.

Whatever you say about Liverpool not getting respect, they have always still been Liverpool, until Benitez. An early CL success amid the clamour for success soon turned the club into a unrecognisable mutation, and very nearly cost them everything. If Liverpool had gone under would that CL success really have been worth it?

I have made my points airing similar concerns about the possible implications of hiring a self obsessed mercenary with a win at all costs mentality like Mourinho. It would appear i am in the minority though, and despite my views if Mourinho is the man who takes over i will support him, but i will do so with a sense of foreboding regarding what the future may bring.

Managers are hired to win at all costs, to believe that the board and the fans would love a manager who doesn't want to win is abit naive. Win, the rest is just bonus.

I may sounds like a glory hunter, but If manchester united does not aim to win then god help us

Like i said, if we want all that minus the winner, we'd get hodgson

Argh man, I used to be on the "vote YES for Mourinho as next United manager" band wagon but not after his antics over the past 6 months, especially in the matches versus Barcelona & last night was the final straw.

I've always known what type of character he was, a tactician who wanted to win at all costs, and hence I turned a blind eye and justified some of his past actions quite a bit because I thought winning trophies at United would justify his attitude behaviour. Actually, deep down I had a hope in me that he would mature as a manager/person and develop a little class.

This is sadly not the case. Actually, he has regressed IMO. We lose against Barca and SAF compliments them and admits that they're the level we should aspire to. Mourinho sends his team out to butcher their opponents, then completely undermines and disregards every little decision of the ref, he gets involved in the fracas at the end by flicking the ear of one of the Barca coaches...I mean come on.

And the worst part of it all is that put aside the antics of Barca, the aggression of Madrid and the game was actually fairly competitive - with Madrid probably creating more chances over the 2 legs. (albeit they are more prepared/fit), yet somehow Mourinho still has an inability to grow up.

So has anyone found their opinion on Mourinho at United swayed in any way? Because currently I'd prefer a few trophyless seasons with any other classier manager over trophy filled years with that classless Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime.

On a side note - I really really really think Pepe is the dirtiest footballer in the world.

My mind has been completely changed over this prick over the past year or two. I dont want him anywhere near our club.

Good post. I sometimes find myself swayed by the Mourinho fans on here that he really is the best man for the job. His record speaks for itself.

Then I watch Madrid play and my reservations return. It's criminal that a team which has been assembled with a budget that would put Man City to shame seems to constantly revert to trying to kick the opposition out of the game, the moment they face any adversity.

The way he snuck up and clawed at that blokes eye (it was far worse than flicking his ear) epitomises so much that is wrong about Mourinho, as a manager. Cynical, under-hand and lacks the balls to take someone on in a fair fight.

I've been disappointed in Mourinho at Real. I expected him to rise to the challenge like Ferguson did when Chelsea came on the scene. He's done the complete opposite and crumbles under the pressure.

I was on the yes bandwagon as well (I hate the word bandwagon now btw) but i'm not sure he's the right man for the job now. Lets be honest, Ferguson in his early years was a bad loser as well. But you have to draw the line at times and Mourinho doesn't know how to.

I share your sentiments. Every line of it.

He has cornered himself badly and these antics are his way of trying to defend his pride. Or whatever is left of it.

Yeah, it's a real shame but Mourinho will never respect any club's traditions and even though I had deluded hope that he might change and mature, the twat will always be a twat. He has not grace or class whatsoever.

That was just really unbelievable. I'd be surprised if anyone on the Caf could overlook that and still want that twat at United. Its just a shame that the Barca coach didn't twat Mourinho last night.

He must stay far away from United.

He's so bitter that pep done him over again (no excuses this time) that he goes for the eye of pep's number 2?!?! I don't care what went on behind the scenes that is acting like a primate.

That behavior is not welcomed at OT!!

Jose fans need to fall back.

Will be interesting to see - there's loads on here adamant that he WILL be the next United manager and that it's not even worth discussing it...

FINALLY the masses can see what some of us have been saying for years. He is a classless spoilt little wanker, like the rich kid that always gets his own way and lashes out if he cannt. Normally I dont advocate violence but he needs a real hiding to knock some sense into him. Prick

there is no way that Mourinho should ever be anywhere near OT.
He is not fit to follow in the footsteps of SAF.

This was posted earlier and I agree 100%

I fully expected to see the resurgence of this thread after seeing what happened last night.

Unfortunately, i'd be inclined to say that my opinion too has been swayed by his antics since moving to Real.

I was of the strong opinion that he was the best possible candidate to succeed Fergie when the time comes for Fergie to retire.

Whilst previously i've excused his antics as being seen to take pressure off players and onto himself, what he's done of late cannot be excused and his reputation will suffer as a result.

Very good post. I was also quite a Mourinho fan to be honest. But his Madrid reign has really shown whats he's like when he isn't winning things. I mean can you ever ever imagine Ferguson tweaking the ear of Aresen Wenger after a match?? I'm actually quite sad about it, because I truly thought he had the strength, character, charisma and player respect to really be a good united manager. Having said that, in contradiction, there is no way he would have the longevity that Fergie has had. He'd shoot himself in the foot at some point early on!!

He was always borderline, but never crossed it with such vulgarity as he has done now.

I couldn't help but laugh at his face afterwards though.

I can't help but think that the number 1 choice of the board is likely to be Pep Guardiola.

He has placed emphasis on developing the young talent at Barcelona and implementing them into the team, they play superb football and they play for each other.

Not only that, the way he conducts himself off the pitch, for the most part, is exemplary.

He's got that Madrid team playing now though.

His record with young players has always been my main gripe. Not sure he has the character to deal with them like Fergie.

Makes me wonder how he would have reacted at Chelsea if they had finished second the two years they won the Premier.

It was a disgraceful incident, pretty shocking, but I don't want him to succeed Ferguson because he's a nice man, I want him to succeed Ferguson because he's arguably the best manager in the world, certainly in the Top 3 and we're not going to get anyone better.

Do not want anymore. He's a classless cnut. Used to think his antics were just about mind games but he is showing himself to be a bitter bastard with no good grace.

Mourinho is a winner, no question. But United is about more than just winning.
