Next Draft - Ideas and Discussions

That kinda backfired in previous drafts. In later reinforcement rounds, GOATs were going for peanuts as different managers reinforce different positions. Min pricing is a must. Though it doesn't affect wars at all as seen in previous drafts.

There wont be any goats in this draft. All actual goats, sub goats, mini goats, positional goats and wannabe goats, everyone will be blocked

Its easy to create a nice pool after an all time draft.

Block everyone picked in the current draft, you get a nice little all time pool.

Block Gaetano Scirea for good measure and you are good to go.

Simple snake draft, no luck, no tactical shenanigans.

Can even make it an auction draft, with no starting price for any players. Start a bid for any player, let him remain active till 24 hours of no bids. And enjoy the bidding wars
In except for the auction part

We might recreate the standard Fantasy Football draft again.

Players will have price tags.
Managers will have a budget.
No more than 2 players per team
No more than 2 players per country
No more than 2 players per decade (birth date)

Snake draft.

remove budget and make it 1 per team and country

I feel like we've gone about match threads completely wrong and the most recent iteration is even worse. I'd rather there was an OP with a writeup of the team's tactics and then it's up to the voters to read the information and vote. If they require more information they can just ask and the drafter can provide it if they have something with them.

It can be frustrating when people aren't seeing your vision for the team and maybe it can even be triggering. I'm probably guilty of asking too many silly questions tbh. And this must post to have your vote count thing is just nonsense. We need a different way to make people interested in engaging in my view.

get what you saying but how the feck is current thing making it worse? this way at least most comment at least something and you get some sort of feedback + discussion in the current draft is much better then in previous ones where most could have went without anyone posting anything, playing managers included.

The intention behind it is to generate discussion, but it's mostly leading to generic +1 type comments because you're forcing them to. I don't necessarily have a better suggestion except to say this particular carrot and stick approach isn't working.

but it worked, ok maybe not 100% but most did put some input in no matter of what quality and match threads were more lively....

Yeah I'm fine with the change. I've missed some threads, but that's more from forgetting/not having time to comment. Don't see how voting with no rationale or discussion is a better option.

No Spine Draft

Got an idea based on my build around thread.

Everyone on #10, Midfield Playmakers & Ball Playing CBs list in our All time Positional great lists threads are banned.

What say you all?
ban stoppers as well as people gonna just go with 2 of those

As always I vote for any kind of complicated draft where only 21st century footballers are allowed because I can't properly rate the pre-1995 or so guys based on the couple of games I've seen them play and lots of highlights.

IMO we should play one draft for you, been ages since you suggesting this so its time we actually do it!

Makoto Haseba-era draft in honour of his retirement: Only players who appeared in a game after 2002, when he made his debut.

dont push it, we will struggle to convince this jabronis to play 95 onwards let alone 02 onwards! :D

I remember moments as early as the 1994 World Cup and being sad Kanchelskis was apparently sold (I'm Canadian so I probably thought he was traded) and then happy when Sheringham was bought, but I'd say it's all Terrence Malick style abstract memories until the Treble and then only in like the 2002 World Cup do I really remember thinking things like "Roque Junior seems clumsy, don't Brazil have other CBs" and "boy, Jeremies isn't skilled but he seems annoying to play against."

I assume suggesting a future draft where we only pick currently under 28 players and judge it in say 5 years would be heretical?

tbh we could do that alongside any other draft as there would be no games....but make it U23 not U28!

My first choice is definitely just a straight 21st century draft. Maybe at the end of the year? We'll be 1/4 done the century since 2000 counts so it makes some sense.

But a future draft would be fun for the FM heads (I'm not one) and youth team watchers. Probably wouldn't take part but would certainly follow it, or if I did it I guess I could just try to pick guys who've made first team debuts and then make some risky picks late based on reputation/nationalities being good at producing those positions like some Croat or Spanish #8 or French CB or I guess English RWs now.

another board game next? risk this time

How about No Pace's draft idea? His cut off his 1995. So let's say typically players reach their prime by the age of 27 so that would mean putting a birthdate of on or after 1968, or we just go with form of the player post 1995. I prefer the birth route as we don't get the annoyance of some people treating players on their reputation pre-95 for their post 95 form.

@NoPace How does that sound?

Yeah, I'm not fussy, anything recent. I liked the idea of a 21st century draft (say draft of one season post-2000 with lots of restrictions), so with your idea it would be 1973 birthdate.

If anyone has a cool format idea for anything over the last 25 years or so I say let's do that.

We could do a post-2000 draft (defined as born on or after 1st Jan 1973) with each side having a maximum of two players in the starting line-up from any country (or if we want to make it super tough, only one player from each country). We could then possible ban Messi, R9 and CR7 although given it is a post-2000 draft that might be a bit against the theme.

I'm in for both risk and the post-2000 draft. I don't think any other restrictions are necessary in post-2000 except maybe banning Messi and the two Ronnies.

id only ban messi....fenomeno is post peak and cristiano is okay to be in.
