New forum for football talk

It would be easy. I wouldn't envisage it being a particularly busy forum, more somewhere those who want to discuss football without the Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime investing thread can go for a bit of a respite from time to time...

As for who should decide, pick a few of the decent longtime posters who aren't mods...no hassle for you lot

Decent longtime posters like yourself?

Hmmmm. Isn't this the sort of post you make in spastic threads too? Also couldn't sensitivity be used in exactly the same way to describe your reasoning for this idea in the first place?

You want it all ways I see.

I just want to be able to discuss football occasionally without having to sift through bellends like you, Afro, Ekeke, FrancoBaresi and numerous others...

You're obviously not going to agree

To be fair Dave, we are constantly hounded with requests for access to the newbie forum. I dread to think how this new idea would pan out, without hurting a lot of feelings.

I would say some culling and stricter moderating is the way forward for now.

There should be another forum set up for football discussion, made up of senior posters only. This could obviously grow as newer posters prove themselves not to be utter spastics

There seems to be an influx of posters on the football forum thesedays who have no knowledge of the game whatsoever...it's embarrassing to read

I'm happy to provide a list of non-spastics if required

I agree with Davo!

Far too many spastics around, impossible to talk about football here anymore.

No need for that now, is there? Unless this is the sort of decent debate you want, including name-calling?

Playground stuff.

I said that months ago, but nothing happens does it? No, just more and more are promoted for no obvious reason.

Plopping arcades and entertainment forums and other crap on top of what should be a football forum, specifically about Manchester United does nothing but attract more and more of them.

I disagree, moderating the football forum would be a bigger job, and as I said earlier would end up confusing as to what was allowed and what wasn't - sometimes you need the chaotic threads to keep the traffic going

Just announce there's a new forum, invite only so don't bother whinging...then ignore any requests

We could do with a new forum to discuss a potential new football forum, so the gimps who wouldn't be in it can't be involved in this initial discussion

Are you still with me?

Now this point, I defiantly see. Even back when I was promoted (which wasn't long ago) it was difficult and almost an honour, now there's far too many newbies popping up and a lot of whom are clearly not up to a decent debate.

I'm sick of the endless drivel talked, more action in the right areas is needed.

Nice try. It's a shame you think you'd be involved in such a forum, when you are clearly incapable of a decent debate.

Not going to happen.

Yes, you've made your point...you don't want the forum, and if there was one I wouldn't be in it

A quite superb point at that

Weaste, for someone who was always against the newbie forum how come you approve of this? And didn't you always want heavier moderating for the football forums?

I think that's the problem. Weaste wants heavier moderating, but it clearly isn't happening, so he's sick of it and sees no other way, unless it gets stricter around here.

Or I've misread the point...

i think the idea is sound, i can see how the mods would get a lot of whinging but you could simply give a 1 week ban automatically to anyone who complained to you about it. You'd just need to decide on 10-15 quality posters to start up the forum who would then invite on merit. if people were concerned over people inviting for the wrong reasons you could combat this by having a thread maybe where if you invite someone you have to provide a reason based on quality of posts. initially the mods could regulate this thread to prevent cronyism.

Alternatively you could just put every body bar about 20 people back into the newbiew and promote upwards again just being a lot more strict. depends if you wanted a 2 or 3 tier caf really. or if you can be arsed.

A better filter on the Newbie system would be a start. You mods promote some right pillocks. ;)

I suppose the problem with a new forum as such would be the requests from people who haven't got access.

How is that fair?

Also, you've just described the newbies haven't you? Or at least what it used to be.

I might be wrong, but I doubt this is what Niall wants of the caf...

It would be a bit like the current events forum....but with less religion and racism, obviously

And would save you the hassle of demotions and the non-stop whinging you'd get as a result

My main concern with trying to turn the football forum into a more sensible affair is that you'll either go to far and make it too quiet, or just do a bit of a cosmetic clear up which will do half a job. Difficult balancing act

Do we really need another long explanation of why the Newbie is a bad idea? The newbie is only there to make moderator life more simple. There is no other reason for it, it's there so that mods have an easier life. All the other reasons are quite frankly bullshit.

And don't push me further on this, because I might blurb out something I shouldn't, and it was one of my major contentions when deleting myself.

To be honest, that's a dreadful idea. It'd kill the main forums.

This makes a lot of sense.

However, it's still too elitist to create a new forum. What if the admin picked a few new mods to run the specific forums better for a while? I wouldn't have such a problem with the likes of you doing that because you obviously see the problem, and could be given limited powers to report issues and problems better and give warnings? Kind of a filter which would save the admin time themselves, while bringing things directly to their attention.

Just a thought.

There are no mods here, it's all admin, it's one of the problems.

Really?

Well, that says a lot...No wonder there's not much respect from the general users.

I'm not going to go all anti-mod, because so far I think they've been very cool (and again, I know the pressures of a huge site), but there is defiantly a lapse which is creating all of this and it's something that need sorting.

well it's an internet forum isn't it, lots of people don't like being called a cnut or whatever but Niall has decided that in the main it's ok, so to use this forum you abide by those rules. If you are overly sensitive you've got the choice to not use the forums.
If it was decided on to proceed with the 3rd tier then niall or the mods saying 'and we don't want to get pms about why it's unfair you haven't been allowed in if we do you'll get banned' would be quite clear as a rule in using the forum. if you didn't like it you could just not use the forum. it's not a democracy and it's not real life, if your banned it's not the end of the world and the mods don't ave to explain all their actions to everyone.

And yep it's like the newbie system just a 3rd tier one with fewer members, the main forums would still be the main forums being sensibly modded and so on, but posters who while too good for the newbies because they raise valid points but who also use the forum for spam and posting shit wouldn't be invited to the 'elite' forum, as Davo said traffic would probably be very slow, this would be the main forum still and users who participated in the 'elite forum would still be posting here because here is where the majority of posters would be posting.

well yes, it would just stop people complaining that they were being discriminated against. surprisingly the newbie forums would see an upsurge in activity until people began to be promoted again at which time the main forums would pick up in activity...

Well, what about the likes of me who don't currently like debating in the football forum because of the problem? That won't change will it? How would I then be noticed and get into this 'utopia'?

Surely it would be easier to revert to a two-tier system for the people in charge? Admin and mods.

It would help a lot.

But this is just what the site started off as! You are repeating history, not changing the future.

Liverpool fan with 53,661 posts on a United forum = loser.
