New forum for football talk

There's basically no downside of doing this, bar some newer posters whinging that they haven't got access....and it would be down to them proving that they should be allowed in

There is a downside. As i spent about 4 months getting promoted, only to now try and get promoted again.

It's not more work for the mods to clean the footie forum up a bit! FFS, just add a couple more if it's a problem.

Earlier I was in two minds about this idea, but now I think it's just elitist crap and shouldn't be. Besides, you like to wind things up Davo, now you want to complain and create an elitist environment because of the end results.

Nah. This place is clearly infested with spastics, kids. . .idiots. Other than a separate forum, the only other suggestion is a mass culling. But I'm not sure the mods would want that. That said, I think demotion would be a good idea. If you can get promoted then you should be able to get demoted. I can think of a few candidates and all.

Exactly, the Rossi thread that Davo created, that led to this thread being created, was clearly started as a wind up, so all this is quite hypocritical to say the least.

That's more fair, I completely agree it's infested. Look at the matchday forum, it's worse to me.

I just think things are a little slacker and just need a tightening. It's not the mod's fault, it's just something that comes with increased draw and more and more people getting used to the net.

However a separate forum is not the answer, because who decides who is eligible? What about people like me who don't have such a large presence on the football talk forums because of the state of them?

When I used to moderate on Gamedev.net, there were problems like this, but we were respected because we knew our stuff and wouldn't be afraid to be friends with people, but would act when it's needed. I think the mods here (with all due respect!) play the friends route a bit much, but should be just a bit sterner to gain some respect. How many times have you seen one tell people to calm down, but an argument still go on?

It's a football forum, it should be a laugh, but this site has grown too big and has too many good people on it to continue being as on the fence as it is. It just needs a crackdown, and demote or cull the trash. Or at least have a private word with people.

Going more elitist will lose the essence of this site. A simple clampdown will get the mods more respect for the future. It's an easy choice for me.

If I could, I would have said exactly this.

There should be another forum set up for football discussion, made up of senior posters only. This could obviously grow as newer posters prove themselves not to be utter spastics

There seems to be an influx of posters on the football forum thesedays who have no knowledge of the game whatsoever...it's embarrassing to read

I'm happy to provide a list of non-spastics if required

provide the list

Yes, that's a good point actually.

Davo, let's see your list of who you deem fit to post in this elitist forum.

Bannings have started...

One down.

The football forums definitely needs quality control. We are going to crack down on dross, insults and personal threats with instant bannings without prior warning - this change in policy was taken after the last season, and was going to be implemented beginning of this season.

who did you ban?

MU1999 said:
We need CB not LB

becouse Vidic is hole in the defence I even think Pique is better than he is...
I don't know why you people like him so much his only quality is heading and jumping but on the ground he is just big peace of shit...
Ferdinand is not the great on the ground two so two of them makes really bad team in th defence.. We need player who can take ball from players with good tehnique and dribling abbilities and put him with Rio in defence. We concede to much goals and thats why we are not the best team in the world, only becouse of defence. G.Neville is also not good as he used to be in defence, I respect him a lot but he just isn't.... VdS too...
So I think it was mistake buying only forward players this summer, we should buy 2 defenders and on good goalie and thatn im sure we would be best team in the world...

Don't think anyone would question the need for quality control. It certainly was harder to gain promotion when I registered back in 2004. But a new forum altogether is a bit over the top IMO.

Perma bans or what?

Or just banned from the football forums?

There is a downside, and that would be having the left-over Football Forum, which would contain only idiots and wums and end up being some ridiculous Forum that everyone would complain about.

It would also mean more moderating, especially in the left-over Forum because of the amount of rubbish that would be there. It would also mean having to pick out the decent posters from the poorer ones which is a hard process, and would involve a lot of work by having to go through their posts to see if they qualify or not.

I don't think it would work to be honest, there would be a lot of angry posters who wouldn't deem it 'fair' to be left in a Forum full of wind-ups and idiots just because they aren't considered a 'Senior' poster.

I think a better plan would be to simply clean up the Football Forum and re-instate a strict policy that does not allow wums and idiots with the risk of a banning from that particular Forum if the rules are broken.

Nahh you're wrong. The football forum would still be used, you need somewhere to have the team vs team arguments and let off steam et al. There might be some whinging from those not selected in the first place, but they'd soon get used to it and have the chance to get access if they didn't act the spastic

If you just keep the one forum and try to moderate it there's a risk it will go too far the other way and get too sanitised

Well, hopefully it won't matter because this idea won't go ahead.

It would be basically impossible to implement such a forum...

Who decides who's a quality poster?

It all comes down to personal tastes and opinions.

Would be a very unfair and cruel system. Mods would be crucified.

This is half the problem, girly posters who jump up and down and scream "wind up".

I don't know where this sensitivity has come from....the spastics probably

Fair enough, but what would the criteria be then? How would you pick those initially involved and then move on?

I don't think over-moderating is an issue really, I doubt it would happen as it was all much better there even as close as last year. I still blame over-promoting against more-relaxation of the moderating.

A new elitist forum will only help turn the site into something it's not. RI and the equivalents spring to mind.

It would be easy. I wouldn't envisage it being a particularly busy forum, more somewhere those who want to discuss football without the Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime investing thread can go for a bit of a respite from time to time...

As for who should decide, pick a few of the decent longtime posters who aren't mods...no hassle for you lot

Hmmmm. Isn't this the sort of post you make in spastic threads too? Also couldn't sensitivity be used in exactly the same way to describe your reasoning for this idea in the first place?

You want it all ways I see.
