The first one was placed with pinpoint precision in the only place where he knew Neuer couldn't reach relative to how quickly he released the ball.
You could look at it as Messi second guessing Neuers anticipation and hitting it where he though Meyer thought it wouldn't go. Is Neuer had allowed himself the extra split second time see where the shot was directed maybe he could've saved it, maybe he wouldn't have.

But he didn't, he made his move and Messi scored. He made the wrong move. Fine margins and all.

Jamie Redknapp is a fecking moron.

His kicking was awful tonight, is it usually that bad or just a one off?

*Not trying to talk him down, genuinely curious - it's the first time I've noticed it being so poor.

What is the point of pundits with emotional attachment issues?

To say somebody is the best ever in any sport is difficult and if Jamie rates him as the best then surely this would have been said before the match, not at half time after he made a couple of important saves.

If Messi scores he will probably say he is the greatest ever, if he doesn't he will say nothing.

If Suarez scores he will probably say he is up there with Ronaldo, if he doesn't he will say nothing.

If Pep somehow wins this match, he will say he is the best manager in the world, if he doesn't he will say nothing (and probably criticise his tactics if he loses).

Redknapp needs only one match to judge the players and managers of football.

All pundits/commentators do it.

*Alonso gets up slowly*

Martin Tyler: Bayern are starting to tire. All the effort put in during the 1st half will take it's toil and cause Bayern to make mistakes.

*Busquets plays bad pass to nowhere*

Martin Tyler: Of course, the same applies to Barca.

I'm sure his distribution is usually really good.

Don't think he can be blamed for any of the goals.

The first one Messi whipped it just outside the box, low in the corner with a little to no time to react.

For the 2nd and 3rd it was 1 on 1.

How good will De Gea and Courtouis be when they are 29. Hard to not see them surpass him considering they aren't miles off now.

Depends on where DDG plays really, if he stays here he'd be the best in my book, if he goes to Madrid i'd have to go with Thibaut.

He's so good coming off the line. DDG has been good at that too this season.

Probably been said but he would have looked stupid if Neymar had controlled that ball when he came off his line.

Good goalkeeper, up there with the best just now but nowhere near the best of all time.

Agree with the poster questioning his kicking skills. I can't believe people are raving about his distribution skills his kicking looked awful at least 2-3 it went pretty much straight out of play. The one that stood out for me was when his defender gave it back to him on his wrong foot and he had to take the time to get it on his other foot and due to this ended up kicking it out. A top goalkeeper should be able to clear it with either foot if you ask me.

Sky commentators were raving about him rushing out to stop the Neymar chance in the first half but for me if Neymar gets his first touch right as he should the GK is in no mans land and gets slated. Based on tonight just can't understand the praise.

Neuer is very much able to clear it with either foot, and he's done that tonight as well. Neuer's distribution is usually very good, that goes for kicking and throws.

Xabi Alonso said that Neuer is by far the best goalie he's ever played with despite having played with Casillas at Real and the national team for years.

Most Germans, including Kahn who said so himself as a pundit, would agree that Neuer has surpassed Kahn for a while now.

Also people here act like Neuer has only become good just now and the hype is only based on a few good seasons. That's why I'm sure a lot of people hate the hype about him, because they didn't actually see him much when he was still at Schalke. But he's been incredible for about 9 years now. Ask Arruda about the game he had against Porto in 2007 or 2008.

Best Around currently. Very lucky to not get embarrassed when he ran out to stop Neymar tonight though. He usually judges them well but totally mistimed it and only a bad touch saved him. 9/10 times Neymar takes a decent touch and he's past Neuer or gets brought down.

I dont think that his distribution is that special. Its certainly not bad but there are several Gks who are equal or better when it comes to long balls. In general there is to much emphasis on his technical ability. His contribution as ball-playing keeper is not down to technique, but to good positioning and big balls.

Still his "classic" goalkeeper abilities are often underrated. There is no better keeper on the line, in 1v1s or when it comes to high balls. Furthermore the "sweeping" aspect is completely unmatched. There is no one around, who is doing anything like he does. Not even close.

He's comfortably the best keeper in the world right now.

Yes. Could have cost his team had Neymar taken a good touch.

Also, was he a tad at fault for messi's first?

He's as good as a pundit as he was as a player.

one of, not the

Its impossible to pick one player over another, in any position. But he's good

That's unfair he was a good player. His punditry is abysmal though and putting Henry who is shocking next to him highlights how bad he is. I'd rather listen to Souness, Carragher and Neville as it's not even funny how much better they are.

He is one of the most complete keepers I have ever seen. But the best there is and was? Only time will tell in that regards, too early for that.

That's De Gea's biggest weakness in my opinion. I've lost count of the amount of times that he's stayed on his line when he could've came out and cleared or claimed the ball.

Smalling has had a go at him on the field on more than one occasion.

McNair as well

He's got better at it, but you are right, he has just stood there a lot of the times he should of been rushing out in the past.
