Should have done better for Messi's first IMO. Seemed to lift his arm away from the ball.

He did save them a lot in the first half however. Best in the world, not ever.

This game doesn't take anything away from the fact that Redknapp has a point, not saying he's the best ever just yet but 2 more World Class seasons and his name should be in the conversation, don't think he's as disciplined as some of the greats though.

He's certainly going to in the discussion by the time he ends his career, IMO. De Gea is brilliant but the intimidation factor Neuer has on top of his skills is huge and rivals some of the best to play the game.

What is the point of pundits with emotional attachment issues?

To say somebody is the best ever in any sport is difficult and if Jamie rates him as the best then surely this would have been said before the match, not at half time after he made a couple of important saves.

If Messi scores he will probably say he is the greatest ever, if he doesn't he will say nothing.

If Suarez scores he will probably say he is up there with Ronaldo, if he doesn't he will say nothing.

If Pep somehow wins this match, he will say he is the best manager in the world, if he doesn't he will say nothing (and probably criticise his tactics if he loses).

Redknapp needs only one match to judge the players and managers of football.

The only way he can stay relevant is by speaking in superlatives.

Revolutionised goalkeeping by being beaten at his Neuer post tonight.

I like how this thread started with a few people laughing at Redknapp for formulating that opinion on one match, but now seems to be people implying Neuer isn't the best ever based on this one match.

"It was an absolute honour and a privilege to see the li'l fella tonight" - another pearl of wisdom for the 'Knappster.

How good will De Gea and Courtouis be when they are 29. Hard to not see them surpass him considering they aren't miles off now.

he did make a couple of really good saves and there's no humiliation in being chipped by that genius

Being beaten like that for the first goal, for a keeper of his huge ego, must have felt pretty humiliating. Besides there wasn't need to act like that from him. He won the WC and he believes his own hype. If it weren't for a Neymar poor touch, we'd have seen a truly embarrassing moment.

He wasn't at fault for any of the goals. Bayern are lucky to not have lost 5 or 6 nil if not for his saves.
He made some great saves throughout the game. Still doesn't mean he couldn't have fine better for the first goal, beaten at his near post. One of the things that make him so good is his anticipation. That freekick he saved in the first half was excellent proof of that. Saved it with ease because of his anticipation. However the goal was down to his anticipation as well. Taking that step to his right at the wrong time opened that side of the goal so and he couldn't recover.

The second goal, I don't want to take away from Messi as it was a special goal on a huge stage, but I'm never a fan of a keeper being chipped from there. Messi does it so much though.

didn't hear his comments beforehand but that first goal was a rocket - reminiscent of Messi vrs VDS in 2010

on most days he probably gets to it though

Thought he could have done better for the first and third goals. The third goal went under his body.

Messi's goals were unstoppable. Neymar's was as well since it was a one on one, which rarely favors the keeper.

I disagree about Messi's goals being unstoppable. The first one was very stoppable.

Neymar's I agree with. Anytime a striker is one on one he should be considered the favourite. But I never said about Neymars goal.

The first one was placed with pinpoint precision in the only place where he knew Neuer couldn't reach relative to how quickly he released the ball.

He's a great keeper but he's a hipster keeper which gets him more attention that other world class keepers from older generations. He's the best of the current keepers but compared to keepers of old? Well, I don't know. But people seem to like him more because they think he's basically Messi because he's a suicide keeper.

This.

Tbf the first goal was a trademark Messi shot that bounced up at high speed. Savable but still very difficult. Nothing much he could do about the second and third goal.

Without him Bayern would probably have been out of the tie in the first half.

Messi's first was like the one Van der Saar conceded in the 2011 final. A bit harsh to criticise Neuer for that.

The first one was not a blunder but I bet he'll be dissapointed to get beaten at his near post.

Great goalie though, best in the world. Best ever? Hmm, not sure about that!

Jamie just claimed this is the same Barca that were around under Pep. They've proved everyone wrong that claimed they need to get the ball forward faster and find a new way of playing.
All this despite watching a game that's the complete opposite of what he's claiming.

Dont see why we can't discuss it. This guy must surely be in as a contender. In simple terms like shot stopping & collecting crosses, he's first class. I cant be bothered to dig out the stats right now, but Neuers stats are insane, pretty much the best in Europe in each category by a country mile this last year or so. He also has a level of anticipation and ability to play with his feet that beats anything I've seen in my lifetime. I dont see a weakness anywhere in his game. Plus he already he's already won the Champions League, the World Cup, 3 league titles and a stack of other pots & individual honours.

Did anyone just hear him a few minutes ago about Bayern having a chance then saying 100% no.

Why didn't he fight for the ball after every goal he conceeded? Such a shame he didn't show how good he is at that.

Neuer's arrogant comments before the match and how he was humiliated was great to watch.

What did he say?

What did he say?
Said how he was going to dominate Messi like he did in the world cup final or something of that ilk.
