Nemanja Matic| BBC says deal agreed

Obvious sarcasm, but besides the age some people believe he's in decline too. Being 29yo is one thing, but 29 and in decline is quite another to shell out £50m for a DM. And before you say anything, much better players than Matic have declined at this age. Few people were listening back in 2013 about the decline of Rooney.
We didn't pay 50 mill for him yet and we don't know if he's in decline. As I said maybe his time at Chelsea is up and he didnt have the motivation anymore. Always depends on the player, no purpose in comparing him to Rooney situatiaon.

Not his age that's the problem.
Fellaini is more mobile than him ffs!
But at this point, I'm just desperate for someone.
That's because Fellaini has the positional sense of a primary school kid chasing a ball.

£50 mil seems a bit steep. I reckon Man United have planted that in the press so when they actually pay about £30 mil, it will seem like a bargain.
I really do hope you're right.

Percy and Law aren't the usual United journos though I don't think. And the story is written from the point of view of Abramovic sanctioning the deal. Seems more likely it's come from Chelsea.

As early as next summer?
I could see us having to reinforce our attack next summer with a big signing because it's lacking quality. Mourinho has signed the likes of Salah and Cuadrado and just decided he doesn't fancy them at all. It's not beyond the realmes of possiblity.

If (and it's a big if, the media have been shite re: our signings) we've looked at our squad and our options for midfield are Dier and Matic, our scouts are overpaid if they're in anything other than a voluntary position.

Have to laugh at multiple people in here saying he's better or "much" better than Bakayoko having not even seen the latter play in a Chelsea shirt yet.

Conte, a serial title winner who's coached and played alongside some world class midfielders, made Bakayoko our priority midfield signing yet posters here think they know better than he does. :wenger:

So nobody can compare players unless they've all worn the famous Chelsea blue? And Mourinho has won more than Conte and didn't go for Bakayoko so are you suggesting you know more than him?

It's quite easy to turn nonsense around.

I don't want Matic

I guess if him and Perisic is what Mourinho wants, so be it. He better win the title next season though.

I remember Jose absolutely destroying him in a post match interview at chelsea during his last season there.

Scouts mostly deal with discovering young players or reporting on progress of players far away. You don't use scouts for Matic and Dier. These are Mourinho's choices from the pool he sees and is familiar with.

He also called him a monster after a CL game.

Matic and Jose are on good terms regardless.

If it went ahead, this signing would be something of a hammer blow to any claims that Mourinho is building for the long term this time - he'd be squandering a colossal amounts of club money on a stop-gap destroyer with what seems like 0 to 2 years of top level football left in him.

i dont have to convince you, i will let Matic do the talking on the pitch. You can quote me in 2 years.

What I dont get about you super scouts in here is you never take the human dynamic into consideration when talking about a players form or potential transfer.

In this case with Matic people moaning about the last time he played well was a few years ago but they fail to mention that was under Mourinho. They also seem to think the manager doesnt keep an eye on his list of targets and how they may be progressing or not. If Jose thinks he can do a job for us AND he has worked with the lad before then I am happy with that. The money side cannot be helped because the market is a mess and we have to pay more than the players are worth especially older players like Matic and Perisic

I'll be quite happy with this is we do end up buying him for £50. He's better for us than Dier would be. Matic gets a surprising amount of assists, he's a good physical presence, he can win the ball, and Jose clearly wants and trusts him. That's good enough for me. He may not be the young and versatile player than Fabinho is, but there's always next year...

0 to 2? Jesus Christ what's up with exaggerations tonight people?

Faster than Aguero at least!

 Aguero running with the ball, gets the ball stuck between his legs and Carrick running full pelt without the ball only just caught him. ok mate, you have well and truly proved a point there.

He's never been good at building for the long term, I don't know why anyone would want him to prioritise something he's never shown to be good at. At his best though, he was good at building at team that could win straightaway. So if he feels these are the players to do that, he needs to win it big next season.

But maybe he is building the team for the long term and sees Matic as a perfect stop gap (as you put it), as so it doesn't hamper out up and coming talents?

Has anyone checked out the average agd of our first 11?
There will be games when Herrera is our oldest fecking player.
Damn you Jose...

Aguero is running with the ball mate and has a bad touch in there too. Usually in football, turn speed and acceleration over the first 5-10 meters is far more important than top speed. Over longer distances bigger stride is an advantage, hence no 100m sprinters under 6 feet.

For what football requires, you wouldn't call Carrick fast.

Why would people need to see Bakayoko play for Chelsea if they've seen enough of him for Monaco? I doubt he's suddenly going to become a completely different player under a different manager

I'll be honest I don't get Chelsea signing Bakayoko anyway, defensively he won't be as good as Matic, offensively he won't be as good as Fabregas so I can only assume Conte isn't looking for either of those qualities and is just looking for someone who can carry the ball through midfield and help with your counter attacking style.

Did Conte manage Pogba at Juventus? Because as I've said before Bakayoko plays like Pogba when Pogba is having a bad game so maybe that's what Conte sees in him, 'potential' to be his Pogba

Problem at this point is whether those are really the right picks to help us win the title. However, I shall hold my peace on that matter for now.

I'm not trying to prove a point! Just a bit of light humour. :p

Of course but, when we were watching it live, we all thought Aguero had left Carrick in the dust. It was a funny moment.

I'd like to believe that, but realistically if building for the future was to happen under Mourinho it would mean bringing in young, proven (but improvable) talent. It wouldn't mean bringing through players from the youth team.

If Jose said he needed to take a shit in the middle of Old Trafford some here would endorse it, Matic would be a cowardly singing, just paying obscene amounts for an old cab horse based off the fact Jose knows he can already order him about and leave us with the wreck when he gets the boot.

He is gradually doing that. They aren't ready to be thrust in the team just yet, but perhaps him signing Matic will serve us well and not hamper the likes of TFM and Andreas Pereira. I think this season we will see a lot of the latter.

you're not going to be taken seriously with posts like this

I can't take half the posts in this thread seriously, it's just like a Jose cult, if he says jump then jump! and anyone with eyes can see how poor Matic is these days, he's practically a statue, and for all the rara on here come next March when we were where we are last season the same set giving it out now will be the ones that will be looking back at their posts.

Brace yourself for the defence force to go after you for daring to question Manchester United's wisdom in the transfer market, it's not like we've made mistake after mistake in the last few years or anything.

Quite stunning that Bakayako is 22 years old and signed for £40m, whilst we're supposedly going to cough up £50m for their 29 year old. Anyway given his age and performances last year, he'd be a good signing at £30m but at the price quoted, Chelsea have again done great selling.
