If Jose said he needed to take a shit in the middle of Old Trafford some here would endorse it, Matic would be a cowardly singing, just paying obscene amounts for an old cab horse based off the fact Jose knows he can already order him about and leave us with the wreck when he gets the boot.
Now that's a belter of a post. Pity it's absolute garbage.

Why would people need to see Bakayoko play for Chelsea if they've seen enough of him for Monaco? I doubt he's suddenly going to become a completely different player under a different manager

I'll be honest I don't get Chelsea signing Bakayoko anyway, defensively he won't be as good as Matic, offensively he won't be as good as Fabregas so I can only assume Conte isn't looking for either of those qualities and is just looking for someone who can carry the ball through midfield and help with your counter attacking style.

Did Conte manage Pogba at Juventus? Because as I've said before Bakayoko plays like Pogba when Pogba is having a bad game so maybe that's what Conte sees in him, 'potential' to be his Pogba

Very different player to Pogba though. Actually a bit better than Pog at running with the ball through the middle but his long range vision and passing ability are nowhere near the same. Pogba pings 60 yarders with both feet and great accuracy. That's never been part of Bakayoko's game. Shooting's another one.

You're optimistic.

Great post.

I can't take half the posts in this thread seriously, it's just like a Jose cult, if he says jump then jump! and anyone with eyes can see how poor Matic is these days, he's practically a statue, and for all the rara on here come next March when we were where we were last season the same set giving it out now will be the ones that will be looking back at their posts.

Whereas you are clearly in the other camp, so far deep in the other camp you can't even see daylight

Nope, I'm just in the Man United camp, I just say what I think about a player as it comes, I was complimentary about Lindelof and Morata when we were on the verge of signing them, I just don't go suckling along with everything shoveled forward.

Ah the trolls boys roll out as usual for anyone not towing the sheep line.

Sorry but I'm not having that Bakayoko is better than Pogba at anything, apart from maybe dodgy hair

He is gradually doing that. They aren't ready to be thrust in the team just yet, but perhaps him signing Matic will serve us well and not hamper the likes of TFM and Andreas Pereira. I think this season we will see a lot of the latter.

Well hopefully, but I don't see him spending £50 million for someone to rotate with Pereira - if we sign Matic I expect us to field him game in and out - give or take - unless injury/exhaustion intervenes. Tangentially, I'm yet to see any evidence that Fosu Mensah is being included on anything other than a tokenistic basis - last season we seemed to prefer to shoehorn in any available senior player ahead of him.

It's funny. There are plenty of moderate posts that spell out benefits and possible negatives of this transfer articulately and with good reasoning. Most of them get ignored as the extreme opinions joust nonsensically.

It's amazing the analogies people are coming out with just because fans are backing the manager. Also pretty funny, this thread is amusing.

Only time will tell mate on this one, both of us are just guessing. I'd like to think Jose has an eye on the future though.

Your post wasn't about the player though was it, it was about the manager his motives (cowedly signing I think the term you used was)

This would be a good addition. It might not be the perfect shiny toy that the muppets want but it's an experienced,PL winning DM who Mouriniho obviously has faith in.

This sort of chat is absolute internet AIDS.

Troll? Towing the sheep line? You need to calm down and logout by the looks of it. Nothing but speculation around, Matic, yet you're having a conniption behind your laptop. None of your points in your post made any sense at all, that's why it's garbage. Can totally see the sense behind buying, Matic. Yet you're totally blinkered and on a rant. I'd rather we signed someone like, Dier, but that looks dead in the water to me.

Scouts mostly deal with discovering young players or reporting on progress of players far away. You don't use scouts for Matic and Dier. These are Mourinho's choices from the pool he sees and is familiar with.
That's kind of the point isn't it? We should have options, so that we aren't desperate for one particular player. So desperate that we end up paying 50m for a 29 year old defensive midfielder, who may well have peaked 3 seasons ago and isn't wanted by his current manager.

If it went ahead, this signing would be something of a hammer blow to any claims that Mourinho is building for the long term this time - he'd be squandering a colossal amounts of club money on a stop-gap destroyer with what seems like 0 to 2 years of top level football left in him.
I'd go along with that to be honest.

It is excatly that, buying an old, declining player based purely on already knowing him, and for a fortune to boot, that is why top clubs use DOF's, to stop managers making these kind of lazy buys that have no upside for the club.

Yes troll sheep, the usual ones that crawl out the woodwork to spout the lines about going along with whatever the manager is doing and attacking other posters, my points were all accurate, Matic is a cab horse on the decline that is only being targeted because he's a safe bet for Mourinho, and when it goes to shit the club will be the one left with a has-been CM with no resale value. Also I am perfectly calm, I really don't know what some of you guys do when you post but I drink a cup of tea, play some music and just say what I think, if it does more for you than that, then fair enough.

0 to 2? Jesus Christ what's up with exaggerations tonight people?

Well, you're welcome to take your own view on the guy, obviously, but from where I'm standing he's a big guy who puts himself about, and has been struggling for a while to do so at previous levels, so it's hard to see him as a top level player now. Beyond those two years, when he's a big 32 year old trying to put himself about, it's even harder to imagine him as a top midfielder. Doesn't seem that controversial, but each to their own.

For that money I rather we prioritize Perisic, at least he would give us attacking options. Woodward is out of his mind if he sanctions this Jose's wish.

And still you're not doing anything to help your cause

I get the feeling that people are under the impression that Chelsea are happy to sell us Matic because they have a replacement in Bakayoko.
Lets be clear here, if Matic signed a new contract they absoltely would not be going for Bakayoko because they will know that Matic is better. They refused to sell him to us last summer but know they had no choice this time.

I don't have a cause, I stand by what I said, I think Mourinho will struggle this season with the approach he's taken this summer, and I think many here will be changing their tune by Christmas.

My point is whoever the scouts suggest will be a raw player for development. Obviously Mourinho wants some experience in his midfield, not some 20yo that had a good season in Belgium or something, who might need 3 years to start peaking.

50 mil for Matic.

No wonder Woodward and Jose have had some disagreements in all likelihood then.

Madness.

Jose better deliver this season.

Spot on. Lets see how many more mistakes club prepared to make before it comes to that conclusion.

You hope he struggles you mean

Is this on top of the 50m that posters shit on Jose for spending on Dier?
Or do we just like shitting on Jose and use every little article as confirmation bias to do so?

No, go back and look when we signed him as manager, I was in full support, but that doesn't mean I ignore what I feel are problems, if Jose does something I think is good I praise it, if he does things that remind me of the stuff I disliked about him at Inter and Chelsea, I'll say it.

Although I'm not against the signing at a reasonable price, I think these are fair points.

Why do some of you care what they spend on players anyway?

Caf is a really strange place, everyone cares about money numbers like it is going out of their pocket, every player after 28 is ancient and suddenly can't play football anymore etc...

Most good players are being shopped for at least 50% more than what they may have been worth as recently as a year ago. We don't have any option other than to pay up. Not Jose or Woody's fault.

Well, we could look at other players. Matic and Perisic aren't that unique.

Because we do not have unlimited funds and it increases likelihood of another overhaul next time around? Not exactly rocket science.
$50 mil is a drop in the ocean compared to what the club earns. Well within our means. By signing lads in their late 20's you're still leaving the path open for a youth player that you feel has what it takes given some time to develop.
