Smoke screen for Fabinho.
Wonder if Chelsea will still be willing to sell him to us now we've nabbed their top target
Lukaku news shows why Chelsea aren't going to sell him until the Bakayoko deal is done...
Hopefully this is over now.
I didn't think there was anything that could make me want Matic but this would be it, I'd rather have gotten him and Morata while Chelsea get Lukaku, at least with Matic we could phase him into a squad role after 18 months or so.
I would rather have Fabinho and Lukaku than Morata and Matic.
My fingers are crossed that this is now dead. Matic is good, I'm not discrediting him, but a 29yr old holding midfielder with the turning circle of the iceberg that floored the Titanic is NOT what we need to replace Carrick shielding the back 4.
If we'd been offered Matic for say, £20m, I'd have taken that as a stopgap. But for the prices quoted, you're talking your 'main man' for the next few seasons and Matic would not work out that way for us.
Lets cross that bridge first before you get all excited. I still have my doubts, especially since a month ago Lukaku said he already knew where he would be going.Wonder if Chelsea will still be willing to sell him to us now we've nabbed their top target

I'd basically take any combo that didn't involve Lukaku, at least with Matic we could move on quickly enough, with Lukaku we are tying the next 5 years to a cab horse, I'd rather not.
Have you actually watched him? You're on such a crusade against him but the fact is he scores goals, that is the aim of the game. He will scores loads for us and allow others around him to flourish. Morata is a good player and I'd like him as well ideally but he was a massive risk for the money let's be honest it could have flopped badly. Lukaku is as sure a thing you're going to get in the market this year and we need that.
Because we've bottled his team up with ease............... every time we've faced him we've bottled him up with ease.
If they have any sense, they should have no need to shift Matic, even if they get Bakayoko.if Chelsea do sign Bakayoko and need to shift Matic we will get him for 20-25 million if we are in for him

So because we sign a player they was after, any negotiations with us stop. Do people realise how stupid that sounds lol.

There's not many top quality strikers around and Lukaku does score goals. Lets get this sorted and add quality players behind him who can create the magic
No, Blind handled him in every one on one they had.
We could have gotten Morata, Auba or Lacazette for the same fee or less, we had options.
Morata is a benchwarmer, Auba was fantastic at Dortmund but there again but there again so did our reserve winger and the Japanese answer to Lingard , Lacazette has yet to play in a top league.
There's no world class striker available.
All 3 are better footballers, better to watch and more condusive to building an attacking unit with than the lump we are buying IMO.
Look its not as if Im thrilled with him. However there's not many better options around. Morata is a better player but had never played as lone striker on a week in week out. Auba is a 28 year old speed merchant in a team were even Kagawa and Mkhitaryan look world class and Lacazette simply lack the skillset Mou wants in a striker.
Will the Lukaku experiment work? I honestly don't know. In my opinion he needs to improve his movement (he covers less inches of pitch then a 35 year old Ibra FFS), his first touch and his passing ability to do well with us. However he's a natural goalscorer and we need goals. Pippo Inzaghi was a horribly limited player but in terms of goals he would shite on all players mentioned before. At a time when the Serie A was still THE defender's factory of the world he was still able to make it work even though he couldn't dribble past a pair of shoes.
Lukaku embodies eveything I feared about Mourinho being our manager and pushed to the side because I was desperate for the LvG fiasco to end, but now we are going full throttle into his horrid idea of football buying the very last striker I'd have wanted anywhere near the club, so as I said when it's confirmed at least there's the Bundesliga and La Liga to watch.
Aren't you pushing it too much though? Sure we won't be playing sexy football with Lukaku upfront but there again, we haven't been doing so for many many years. SAF's last team lacked talent and was boring and our team performance nose dived with Moyes and LVG. Also note that apart from rare exceptions (Cantona, a young Rooney and Barbietov) most of our strikers were brought for their efficiency in front of goal or/and their workrate rather then their magic and technique. RVN, RVP and Ole were world class poachers, Cole was a teeny weeny inferior to them on that regard but compensated to it with pace, Tevez was a grafter. Sure some brought more to the table then that (ex Yorke, a young Rooney and Saha) but I always felt that SAF considered technique secondary to workrate (Tevez and an older Rooney) or world class finishing (RVN, RVP, Ole, Cole). We always stirred away from the luxury player type (Zola, Baggio, Del Piero etc) with the rare exception of Cantona and the Bulgarian flop.
