I don't understand why are people so much against him. We're in dire need of a holding/defensive midfielder. We all know Carrick can't play every week and we all know we have no one else who could do that job. Yes, there are probably better targets, but are those better targets attainable?
Matic had 35 appearances for the team that ran away with the title as early as the winter. And that was in a 2 man midfield. Yes the other midfielder was Kante, who's work rate is exceptional. But we do have Herrera as well.
Matic is tailor made to sit in front of the back four. He's popular with his dribble or his agility, but neither is Carrick. He's good at protecting the ball and passing (7 assists in the league last season). His defending is not class A, but he is one of the best in class B.
For the position he is, he could easily play 4-5 seasons, even if he is 29. On top of all he's tall which only boosts our defensive rating.
If he comes in the 30-40m region, it will be a good deal. If he comes for <32m I would call it a very good deal. 25m and it's a bargain.

I'm not convinced we even hijacked Lukaku, he himself has said he knew where he was going for months. Anyway Matic would be a great signing, Prem proven, a winner and the manager knows him inside out, no bedding in required, much better option than the Caf hipsters choice, a right back playing out of position, give me a specialist any day.

I'd be livid. Not because of the whole Lukaku business but because we'd be selling a good player to a direct rival while leaving ourselves weakened in midfield. If Bakayoko won't be fit for a while, having only Fabregas and Kante is a huge risk.
We should be keeping Matic until at least January.
Bakayoko is only going to miss a month. Use the Matic money and buy a squad player.

Chelsea will probably sell him to Inter Milan. Sky said a few days ago that Inter are ready to bid 35 million for him, so if that's the case then I can't see them selling him to us.
How is that? if we are paying 30 million in fees and 200 k in wages(82 million total) it cant be a better deal than paying 40 million and 100k in wages(total 65 million). It is simple mathematics.

Why would Chelsea sell us Matic and replace him with bakayoko? Makes no sense to me. I think Matic will stay and they will swap between kante, Matic and Bakayoko. Even if they sell Matic why to us and strengthen their rivals. Be surprised if this happens.

Replacing Matic with Bakayoko in the first XI makes sense since he's much younger, better with the ball, and more mobile. Getting rid of Matic completely is the stupid thing. All these games we'll have next season, we need all the quality we can have.
Loftus-Cheek left yesterday on loan and there are rumblings of Chalobah leaving soon. That would leave us dangerously thin in midfield.

"Rejects" have been some of the best buys over the years. KDB, Robben,Sniejder,Fabinho,Lindelof,Lukaku,Carvjal, Matic all were rejects . They all went on to do pretty well and those are just names on top of my head.
