If he's downed tools for Jose, he's also done it for Hiddink and Conte. His ineffectiveness and effort is masked by Kante. I'm not sure if he's been injured, but he rarely sprints anymore, jogging and being a passenger like Mikel was right before we got Matic. I'd love it if we didn't have him on the bench, at least Chalobah his a youth who tries. This big Serbian fecker doesn't even use his height well. Did I mention he's incredibly left footed and only passes to that side of the pitch?

I doubt Matic will join us. Chelsea went through all that trouble of signing him back. Why would they let him leave again? We should go for Matuidi or Bakayoko IMO.
It was convincing enough to win the league. What they struggle with was injury to Ramirez and lack of backup for Matic.
Matic is probably a better DM at present but Fabinho (who just started playing in midfield this year) is younger, faster, more versatile and just generally a very good football player who I think will quickly develop beyond Matic in 1-2 seasons.

Just the fact we don't seem to have an interest in Fabinho, not being linked with any other DMs of note, we need a DM, sounds like Chelsea are open to offers and Jose has always rated him.

I'll try to look for the positives : with Matic as a DMF, building the play from the back will depend completely on Lindelof, while Matic will be responsible for the covering the back and him and Herrera ( Kante-esque ) will be doing all the dirty work in the midfield allowing Pogba to push forward without any worries. We'll be like building the team on Pogba mainly and that's not bad. This combination can get 100% of Pogba's abilities and also Herrera can do some nice attacking moves or passes from time to time.

Nemanja Matic was a great player under Mourinho in the past, when he was younger and full of drive. I don't know about now though, he has won the Premier League a couple of times and doesn't look as hungry anymore. He is the kind of player that needs to be switched on entirely to have an impact, without those extra 10% he is very ordinary to be honest. Soon 29, I think we should stay away from him - and they would probably ask a lot of money for him. Furthermore; what happened to him at Chelsea two years ago? He went from near world-class to absolute shocking over a summer - I am pretty sure this is something Jose would remember very well.
Even if Mourinho throwed him under the bus, he still played him afterwards in a lot of games

I think the negativity towards him is a little over the top, it wasn't so long ago this place was citing Matic as the type of player we needed to sign.
