He was invisible all of last season, can't see why we'd want him.
Those who don't want him cos he was shit last season by the same notion shouldn't have wanted mourinho.

But they fill some of the same basic needs. Is there any other top team in Europe starting such a defensive midfield? Even Jose with his supposed negative tactics started Fabregas next to Matic.
Well it's not just that is it. He was displaced by Mikel of all people. He also isn't a big upgrade on what we got. So very little point in paying big money for Matic, which is what Chelsea will demand.
I remember him being fantastic for the first half of 2014/15. If that Matic was showing up ever week, I'd love him. Hasnt quite showed the same form since, though.

Think Matic has better passing then Morgan,so far in Chelsea he had some of best period as DM in midfield 3 with point back. In 4-2-3-1 things are worse,he had job to do for 2,most of time he played with Fabregas as partner. I wouldnt take him but you never know what cnut gonna do.

Schneiderlin has more pace whereas Matic is better on the ball. Other than this, they are mostly same
Would be a great signing, although there is something about buying from Chelsea I don't like- especially when they are established players. As @reddevilz007 said I would rather Krychowiak. Or, even better, give the role to Timothy.
They actually don't. It's actually staggering how little most posters know about Schneiderlin. Matic is a holding midfielder Morgan isn't. Morgan us more of a defensive 8 that will press higher up the pitch and break up play whilst also supporting the attack from midfield.
Mourinho has been known to use more than one player of this style at a time. Against Barca he once went with Pepe, Khedira and Lassana Diarra as a midfield 3. So it wouldnt surprise me if he signed someone like Matic. No idea how well they get on these days though.
He'll be a rubbish signing for us. Don't want any Chelsea players apart from their youth players.
Matic and Schneiderlin at a base in a 4-2-3-1 in tough games wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

He would certainly add some steal into our midfield but would rather us look somewhere else. I don't believe these rumours probably a load of s***.

Blind is better in every way and in more positions. Do not want.
I used to like him and I still rate him but Schneiderlin is a very similar player and we don't need to spend additional £30m+ to barely get an upgrade.
No way is Blind a better player than Matic. Blind can fill in a lot of roles but he's average at all of them. Matic is solely a midfielder but a good one.
Blind has become so overrated on here its ridiculous.

Thank the Lord that someone has a bit of sense around here! Matic and Schneiderlin are completely different players, the latter played his best football when alongside Wanyama (a very similar player to Matic). I'd love to get Matic but Wanyama could be a decent, cheaper alternative. We just don't have that kind of disciplined enforcer in our squad, and alongside Schneiderlin would give us a very solid base to allow our front four to counter attack. Also, we need more height and power so that we don't get blown away again by teams like West Ham.
But theres a reason Chelsea want to overhaul their midfield..
He wasn't great last season, infact he was pretty awful, it could be like shelling out for Essien post injury, perhaps not the same player until he can prove otherwise,

He isn't. I'd be very surprised to see Mourinho use blind at the base of midfield anyways, just can't see him fit his profile of a holding midfielder.
Wanyama is awful, even Southampton fans don't rate him.
They do play on the same position, or at least lets hope that if they were here, they'd be a defensive midfielder, they're really not good enough on the ball to play in a more advanced role.
They actually don't though, Wanyama and Matic play in the same position. Schneiderlin is like Khedira, a defensive 8. Morgan played a more advanced role at Southampton and was excellent, that's his proper position, not a #6.
2 defensive players with little ability on the ball, and one creative player, can you name one team who plays 433 - 4231 and is effective with that setup? In modern football it's usually one defensive player/ a ball winner, one box to box/hard worker but also with ability on the ball, and one creative player.
I completely agree with you, if we signed Schniderlin to play as a number 6 then we are the most stupid club in the world. He's a box to box midfielder that has far more ability on the ball than he has shown in a Utd shirt. I think him and Matic would be a ridiculously good partnership.
Let's hope he doesnt play there for us, way too limited on the ball for a top team to let him play in that role. Unless we're going to revert to defensive counter football, two of Schneiderlin and Matic would be awful attackingly.
Not an exciting signing but probably a sensible one. Depends if we are getting the Matic we saw last season or the one before!

I didn't watch that much of Chelsea last season but when I did Matic seemed fine, not quite as good as the year before but nowhere near awful.
If you look at his stats on squawka you'll see that in all the important metrics he was operating at around the same level as the previous year when he was heralded as the best defensive midfielder in the league. In fact they give him a higher rating for 15/16 than they do for 14/15.
Other Chelsea players like Hazard, Costa and Ivanovic seemed to have declined far worse when I watched them play and again this is shown on squawka, their individual metrics and overall ratings all experienced massive downturns.
It seems to me that Matic is getting lumped in with a lot of guys who had completely given up on Mourinho when he was one of the few who was still pulling his weight. It makes sense to me that Mourinho would try to bring such a player with him to his next club.
