No idea what happened to him last season at Chelsea but he looked a seriously reinvigorated player today.

They won the league so you can't criticise the manager. However sidelining one really good player for another always seemed strange to me. I thought they'd play Matic and Kante as a double pivot, but watching them last season it seemed like Matic was being severely restricted and Kante was given a role that would blatantly get all the plaudits.

Works for us as well because he's a fantastic player when you give him the freedom to do his natural defensive work but also allow him to move forward and create from deep.

He could genuinely be worth 10 points this season.

If he can keep such level up he is on par or better with anything Kante can offer and as such one of the two best DMC's in the league.
 
I just don't understand why Chelsea sold him to us. Both games he's played for us he's been our best player.
 
Wow, covered 11.4km and won the ball back 9 times. Some debut to get motm with a debut striker scoring too. Top, top signing.
 
I was sooo freckin happy when we got him and he's shown why in every match so far.

Great performance - for the first time in years we seem to have a proper midfield!
 
Always knew what he'd offer defensively, but his passing, decision making and command of midfield look outstanding . Seems like Jose actually knows his stuff
 
Fantastic. That was the player who made me watch Benfica regularly in 2013. Wanted him here so bad back then. Gaitan actually used to be pretty good too.
 
I know it's only one game but he made the difference today in my eyes. He looked incredibly calm on the ball and it really made a difference to the front. Power and pace I'm so happy because what I saw today will mean we will score goals. Mourinho in a suit brings that Aura that he means business. He looks well. It is very early but I haven't felt like this since Sir Alex. Delighted for Lukaku and Pogba who are both in my fantasy team alongside De Gea! Great start to the season!
 
Impeccable today. As if his all around performance wasn't enough, he went on that mesmerizing series of dribbles that I didn't know he had in his locker. Icing on the already excellent cake.
 
Brilliant performance. Did everything today, his passing and quality on the ball was better than expected and better than anything I've seen from him in his time at Chelsea.

I think Dier is a good passer of the ball, underrated by many. I personally preferered him over Matic due to him being younger and while DM signings aren't exciting I thought either of them would partner Pogba well.
 
Honestly did not know nor think he was that good.

9/10 if not 10/10 performance today.

Chelsea made a mistake.
 
People should hold on with their praise, if JM keeps using him in midfield 2 and refuse to give him rest in League Cup etc. he will burn him real quick.
 
Biggest compliment I can pay him is by saying I didn't miss Herrera for one moment. Absolute class from him :devil:
