Think the smug 'who didn't rate him posts need to stop': From what I've seen everyone acknowledges that they were wrong about him. I have yet to see one poster trying to vindicate any previous negative opinions about him.

It was the decision of someone who isn't involved in the football side of things (maybe even Abramovic himself or on his orders), and it was done on the sentiment of allowing Matic to choose his destination in reward for his service. Chelsea have already done similar with Cech.

Even in close quarters and under pressure he is so god damn composed on the ball and makes the right decisions 95% of the times! Loving him in that role.

No chance he'll be playing like this every week but we should definitely expect semi-regular MOTM performances. His biggest issue has been his tendency to go into his shell and play conservatively, which happened a few times last season. Even then he's a solid 7/10 player who does the dirty work off the ball, makes the right decisions on the ball and knits the team together.
It'll be funny to see how Chelsea fans backtrack now. Kante was great last year but it was Matic's understated intelligence and discipline that allowed him to shine.
Yeah Petit is a great call! Always helps to have a 6ft+ in there to dominate in the air too. Stops your centre backs getting drawn out into spaces you don't want them to be.

The Perisic analogy is spot on. The same type of criticisms have been directed at Jose's efforts at getting both players.

I'm well impressed with how he always wants to play it forward, countless times today he could have played an easy back pass but instead either looked to to set up an attack or take his man on, he's fecking brilliant.

They are just different players with different roles. Herrera is more like Kante. Their job is to be a pest around the field and link up play.
Matic is more like Carrick in his prime. Takes control of the game making everyone better.
Both have their uses as I'd prefer Herrera against quicker/technical teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, and City where we'd setup to hit on the counter. While Matic is better against more physical teams like Chelsea, Everton, and the weaker PL sides.

Mourinho makes mistakes and will make them, he is human after all, he gives chances to Lingard. Just because he's interested in a player, doesn't mean we cannot think he's making a mistake. Just like we all do make mistakes, admitting them is healthy.
