I don't think Conte favored Kante in the more freed role, just that Kante ain't efficient in the discipline holding role. Conte started the campaign with Kante holding while Matic was more active. Arsenal & L'pool smashed them which required Conte to change the tactic to accommodate Kante. Kante was tried as holding role here & there throughout the season.

I expected power, discipline and passing and he gives all that and more besides! I was impressed by his ability to hold the ball under pressure and even dribble his way out of tight spots before picking the right pass. First name on the team sheet.
