NBA Thread 2013-2014

My observation could be a bit biased here, which is why I want to ask you guys.

Do teams actually score an unbelievably/significantly high number of fluke/last second/desperation shots against Miami? Especially at the end of quarters?

It happens in all games, there was 2 3pointers in the last 12 seconds of a game earlier to cock my bet up by 1 point

 And guess who had under 192.5 in the Miami game! Bloody hell.

Joe Johnson hitting a three and leaving a second over 24 seconds for the Heat to go for a final shot, and hit it as well.

About those buzzer beaters, may be it's only because I watch too many Heat games, but I just thought it happens too many times, and it's fecking annoying.

P.S. Can you bet on the Heat not winning it this year?

You'll be able to lay them at places like betfair, which is basically the same thing.

NBA's Sterling strategy emerges

While the league's constitution, publicly revealed for the first time by the league last Tuesday, made it clear that grounds exist to remove an owner if that owner "fail(s) or refuse(s) to fulfill its contractual obligations to the Association," it remained unclear what contracts Sterling might have violated when he made his racist statements in a private conversation with his mistress V. Stiviano that was later published by TMZ.

But sources with knowledge of the league's strategy say there are, in fact, actual contracts that it will maintain Sterling violated should he choose to fight the league's desire to force him to sell the team if the league can get the required 75 percent of owners to agree to make the move.

One of those documents, which Sterling signed when he first bought the Clippers in 1981, and signed various amended versions since, states that an owner will not take any position or action that will materially and adversely affect a team or the league. Owners also sign morals clauses, which state that they will be upheld to the highest standard of ethical and moral behavior.

Congratulations to Durant. Really pleased for him. Very emotional speech too!

Lebron James became the youngest player to 4000 play-off points. Not bad, he's pretty decent at this basketball thing.

I don't think the Nets are very impressive. They might win one, it's true.

I was right about Dallas being slaughtered in game 7!
I remember a series between Miami and Atlanta a few years back (in the first round), where each team blew the other team out on their home court, including game 7 (which was unfortunately in Atlanta). Each time a team beat the other by double digits it was thought may be the momentum shifted, until all 7 games finished in double digit wins. Was one of the weirdest series I've seen.

It's still one game, and was virtually tied at half time.

Honestly I'll be very surprised if Brooklyn win two games, they're too old to keep up with the Heat. If it was Chicago or these upstart Wizards I'd say 7 was possible.

Age could be a factor, as they only have 1 day rest in all games, but Miami aren't exactly young either. Allen, Battier, Anderson, and even Wade also need some rest.

A few adjustments by the Nets and this series could easily go to 6 imo, if not 7. They could eventually have a couple of insane nights from 3-point land with the shooters they have.

Ariza's been Mr Invisible tonight. Wiz miss his three point shooting in games like this.
They missed 4 or 5 three pointers in a row in the last 3-4 minutes which proved costly. Indiana went scoreless in that stretch (having a 3-point lead), but the Wizards failed to take advantage as they kept firing threes and missed them all. Should have gone inside, would have easily taken the lead.

Indiana will steal at least one game in Washington, and if Hibbert keeps showing up like tonight, then they have every chance.

By the way, Indiana released Bynum yesterday, and tonight Indiana looked more like themselves and Hibbert played like a beast again. The start of their decline also coincided with signing him two months ago...

Coincidence?

Yep-maybe went for the home run balls a little early. Wall made some bad choices down the stretch-happens sometimes. Hibbert was a force. I'm OK 1-1 heading home. Friday's game will be big-important for us to hold serve.

At the same time, offensively no other Indiana player had a very good game, so if one of Paul George/West or even Scola show up alongside Hibbert, it'll give them a pretty good chance. Conversely, the perimeter players for Washington are capable of having better games than this one.

OKC tied it up. Pretty good response after game 1. Was hoping that Durant's MVP and his speech would galvanize the team a little and it looks like it did. KD and Westbrook were both good. Need to pinch a game in L.A now.

Aw man, Dawk Ins' YouTube account has been terminated. Suck.

If true, Hibbert is the biggest idiot in the league when he's threatened by a player with no knees.

I was actually referring to dressing room issues. Bynum is known for having an negative effect whenever he steps into a locker room.

Or may be he was just a bad omen for them.

Talking about insane nights from 3-point land.. Teletovic is now 5 for 7 from 3. And Joe Johnson hasn't even taken a 3 yet.

Miami look more tired than Brooklyn.

It's gonna be another close game. Can Miami finally close one of those out against the Nets?

Double digit win in the end, but Miami only pulled ahead in the last 6 minutes, which was nice to see.

It's scary when your game changer is a 38 (almost 39) years old, if you're talking about wanting to 3-peat.. James and Wade shouldn't be coasting around this time in the season.

Their bench coming up large. Did Peirce roll his ankle or something earlier? I heard them say something about that.
Pierce? Didn't notice it. Livingston slipped and fell awkwardly but he carried on without problems.

When Miami' big three combine for 54, they're usually in trouble. To win by double digits in the end tells a lot about how influential the bench was.

Letting Miller go imo was a huge mistake. Miami can't win without hitting the threes consistently. And Ray is 38, he can't give you that every game, especially as you go deeper in the playoffs.
