NBA 2023-2024

So there’s a game on TNT now. Nets vs Cavs but it’s in Paris? What’s that about?

It is and it isn't. For somebody like LeBron, Steph, Giannis and the like it is. For somebody like Sengun who doesn't have the "street cred" of such luminaries, it is on performance (minus the Turks). Bottom line, he's played really well this year and deserves it.

Yeah that makes sense. He’s definitely made a jump this season and he’s playing at an incredible level.

They’ve held games in London before too. They’re trying to grow the game, similar to the NFL holding games in London and in Germany. I noticed a pretty sharp increase in NFL fans in the UK in the years after they started having games here

I didn’t even notice Klay Thompson. How the feck did he sneak in there

But yeah it’s a popularity contest. I’m just hyped for Sengun and the fact that people are finally noticing his rise (or it’s probably just the Turks voting for him in their thousands).

I'm glad that someone like Sengun is that high, he deserves it. But the All Stars teams are a joke, on merit Mike Conley should be above half of the guards.

Yeah just Googled and the purpose seems to be to attract new fans which is apt considering it’s the first one I’ve spotted live since I decided to get back into it.

no it’s not. Jokic has at least 2 triple doubles done in under 20 mins. Westbrook probably has at least one too.

And Giddey just beat Wemby’s timing today

The fact that you're using Jokic, one of the greatest players of all time, to dismiss him shows how fantastic the achievement is for a rookie to do it.

Even Giddey is a 3rd year player, though Wemby did score more points in his triple double.

Giddey's statline is impressive especially the 3 blocks but as a guard in a currently excellent team with arguably the best guard in the league as the team game manager, it should be easier to get points and assists. That's where to me the comparison with Jokic is quite apt in the sense that Jokic stats are his own product, he generates it on his own damn self, it's not a byproduct of his team. Wemby is doing things without a game manager, without much defensive help and without reliable shooters or slashers, it's only the rebounding that is somewhat "weak" and even then it's not actually that weak.

It would be intriguing if the Spurs could land Claxton and Tyus Jones. But I suspect that both will be traded next month or already have contract extensions ready while Spurs have no reason to strengthen their roster until the offseason.

I’m not dismissing him, I’m just telling you that you’re factually wrong in saying he got a triple double in the second fastest time in NBA history.

Apparently it was the 6th fastest, but I've also seen it reported as the 2nd fastest - which is very misleading, and the journos should de better.
Only Westbrook has recorded a triple with less minutes on the court - not about the fastest - but about time on the court for the entire game.

Jokic holds the record for the fastest - 14 minutes and 33 seconds

That is the only one he has in less than 20 minutes though, @elmo. (I don't know if this list includes the playoffs, I guess it doesn't).
Edit: Apparently Jokic also has one in 18 minutes in february 2023 against the wolves - but it doesn't show up on any of the lists I can find anywhere. He should then be between the two from westbrook or between westbrook and luka. Whcih then puts Wemby at 7th. Too many statistical records for anyone to keep proper track, I guess!

#6 Wembanyama
#5 Luka Doncic
#4 Russell Westbrook
#3 Russell Westbrook
#2 Jim Tucker
#1 Nikola Jokic

Stop dismissing him!

Hey man I was just quoting what the guy above me said, I took him for his word :D

I think Wemby’s record is actually player to achieve a triple double with the second least playing time in the game, which is basically just a made up record
The fastest triple double by a Frenchman over 7 foot 3....

...on a Wednesday.

Not made up at all. ;)

Expected to be crushed tonight so happier than expected with the performance
It's becoming apparent though that the younger players need to be getting even more minutes. I think Kuminga actually has star potential. The kid is an athletic beast and has just turned 21. I honestly think Kerr has done him no favors with playing time. Wiggins for the most part has been dire this year. How he gets minutes in front of this kid just out and out baffles me.

Another disappointing loss, but when the Grizz get 40 FTs and the Dubs get 10, it does make things difficult.

Jayson Tatum is a hurricane. Probably the best offensive avalanche when he gets in the groove.

Yes he is! If he cared about scoring titles, he'd have no problem in putting up 30+ averages, but luckily for the Celtics he's more team oriented.
Great defensively as well. Of all the MVP candidates - he's probably the most complete alongside Giannis.

I've been watching the odd game each night as they seem to start at 8pm which suits me well. I caught some of the Hawks vs Spurs last night but Trae Young seemed to just be absolutely steamrolling them so I didn't watch the whole thing.

This guy will hit one 3 and then get hot and start hitting 8 consecutive 3s from the fecking parking lot. At one point against us, he was pulling up from the half court line

An offensive avalanche is a great description for that.

Down 22 points and we finally didn’t stink in the 4th quarter to make the comeback.

This could be big for the Suns confidence. We’ve been utter crap in the 4th so far this season.

Jokic - Embiid is brilliant. First half was 78-78, ludicrous shotmaking.

Embiid should almost be a lock in for MVP the way he's playing this season.

He's missed so many games though, he can only sit out 8 of the remaining 40 something games to remain eligible for it.

Siakam to the Pacers seems to be close. I wonder what the Raptors will do with their picks.

Does this make the Pacers contender? I don’t think so, but they will for sure give a lot of teams serious match up problems.

What did the Pacers give up for him? Will he even re-sign with them? Isn’t he a UFA after this season.

I have barely seen them but it seems that they can't really defend in half court. Siakam helps defensively but only coaching and scheming can see them improve drastically before the playoffs.

Personally I have a bigger trust in teams that have a relatively high offensive rating and a relatively low pace while also having an average to above average defense. Currently that would be Celtics, Clippers, Sixers and Nuggets. The Timberwolves and Thunders are wild cards due to the former having by far the #1 defense while the Thunders have an half court offense that is nearly unstoppable.

It's supposed to be built around Brown and 3 first round picks with salary fillers. And he is supposed to be willing to extend.

I don’t love the move for Indy. He wants a max contract, and I’d not want my team to give him that if I was a Pacers fan. Just seems odd trading for an almost 30 year old when their best player is 23. Good player though. Not sure it moves the needle enough for them.

Warriors game canceled tonight. Assistant coach Dejan Milojevic dies from heart attack. Terrible news. RIP.
