NBA 2023-2024

Sadly GSW were a victim of NBA gaslight tonight but listening post match interviews, ESPN will have a full blown take about flopping, foul baiting while having Jokic as a face of it, it would be actually amazing

Well the refs decided to full on give Jokic every call tonight at the expense of the other superstar they like to make an example of in Steph.

Tough loss to digest.

Yeah it was fairly farcical. And Steph shot poorly. Oh well, a lot of our players looked good

Yea but Kerr should raise that question, like why someone with a shit whistle too got all the calls suddenly on national TV game, instead he is barking about Jokic like he is Embiid. Which, at best will only lead to Jokic being plastered as "face" of 20 FTs per game guy in the media and NBA will reverse him back to being mauled with no whistle. Wont change shit for Steph at the end.

Damn Luka, 50 points against the Suns, he's having an MVP season but is being beaten out by an even better season from Embiid.

He's become a true puppet master. Does literally whatever he wants on offense when Lively is on the court with him.

Pistons are not having a good season.

I watched the last 10 mins of the Pistons game. The crowd in Detroit, to be fair to them, were doing their best to will their team to a win. Felt like a playoff atmosphere. There's loads of good teams in the league that don't get even half of that kind of crowd support. Fair play to them.

That Cam Johnson dagger though, soon after Cade hit a 3 to rally the crowd, silenced the arena. The Pistons commentator was almost crying at that point. That was cold blooded.

Also these are their next 10 games;

Celtics
Raptors
Rockets x2
Jazz
Warriors
Nuggets
Kings
Spurs
Wizards

You'd think the Spurs and Wizards are the most likely places to sneak a win but they lost to both those teams recently. Jazz maybe but they recently lost to a heavily depleted Jazz team that were missing their best players. They play the Rockets twice, perhaps they steal one and split the games but they just lost back to back games vs Nets. They could honestly easily lose the next 10 and get to 37 straight losses and it doesn't even easier after that as the 3 games immediately following the next 10 games are Bucks twice and the Wolves.

You'd think law of averages dictate they will eventually catch one team on a bad night but that's what we've been saying since they were at 10 straight losses.

Celtics are definitely losing to them, I can already see the memes

Jokic played like Embiid the other night but I'll give him a break for that because he usually doesn't get much from the refs. Everyone deserves a bit of love from the officials every now and then. (Just wish it had been against somebody else)

As to Steph, it never does seem to be his turn as far as getting superstar treatment is concerned.

Yea not sure about that but doesnt matter now, its done, refs are shit in general and seems certain players getting everything and some get feck all but also think that type of whistle aint helping them to adapt later in playoffs.

Checked the score, messaged my lad in disbelief and we’ve agreed to come down (at 1:30am) and watch this, tomorrows bollocking can deal with itself

This is box office stuff

I don’t think the Pistons will hold on, sadly.

Yep, back to normal with 3 FTs tonight, Kerr is such a party pooper.

That was the most predictable of blown leads in the history of the NBA.

Jokic with another biblical performance, he is seriously a monumental player

What is Redcafe's consensus on Doc Rivers as a coach. Bad, average or good?

Average . Has some of the worst choke jobs in playoff history on his resume and didn't make enough of his stacked teams.
Does have a chip and a decent record overall.

Terrible coach with an inflated ego. He wasted so many HoF level players time because his coaching wasn’t at the level required for his team to actually compete for a ring.

Even with the Celtics, he was being carried by the big 3 and Thibs coaching that defense.

I guess it won’t be long before we see Siakam traded.

Would the NBA benefit more from an academy structure ala European football?
Would an academy structure be better than the AAU and high school youth systems?
Has the NBA ever considered an academy structure?

Was really pleased to see an early game today, tip off at 10pm instead of midnight.

Jazz vs Heat….and it’s absolute garbage

Pistons up by 8 at HT. Could the losing streak be broken?

Honestly, the interest in the Pistons and their games have gone up a ridiculous amount since the losing streak. I bet they’ve never generated as much viewing

Still up by 4 with one quarter to go. It's on.

It seemingly took like twenty minutes to play out the last couple minutes or so, really dislike that about the NBA.

Yeah it’s crap, there should be a ruling to stop games ending like that. Eg, if 3 fouls are committed by one team within 10 seconds of game time, it automatically resets the time down by 10 seconds

I've probably asked this question before, but I got really into NBA when I lived in Toronto. I was there in the streets nearly getting crushed when the Raptors won in 2019.

If I wanted to get into this more what's some obvious first steps? Would I need to be up at 2am watching games? Are there certain accounts I should follow?

I never really fully grasped certain parts of it, especially tactically. I get that you're often trying to drag everyone over to an area before a quick switch for a free player to shoot, and then obviously you've got counters and things like that but for example when I try to play NBA on console I have no idea what to do  I just pass it around (whilst having no idea what half the tactics mean) and then usually just attempt a shot. I'm also not really sure what many of the positions are. I know some are there for blocking, some are 3 pt specialists like Curry, I know MJ was a shooting guard but I've no idea what that means. I think that's the extent of it.

I would get the NBA League Pass. It's kinda pricey (around £20 a month) but as someone who lives in the UK who works full time and have a family, it works for me. I stay away from the results and you can rewatch the entire broadcast (for every single team in the league, I tend to just watch the Rockets and perhaps a couple of live games if I happen to stay up beyond midnight). You can just watch the highlights for each game too, if you don't fancy sitting through an entire game.

That's really the best way to do it.

There's a youtube channel called Thinking Basketball that I love. It's both entertaining and interesting as a fan but I imagine it would also be a super useful tool for someone trying to get into the game and understand the different tactics and schemes.

Other than that though, you just gotta watch the games man. Just start watching and you'll find yourself understanding more and more as you go, and you'll probably also find yourself gravitating towards a particular team the more you watch. You have a link to Toronto, so perhaps you'll naturally gravitate towards the Raptors. I gave my mate this exact same advice and he ended up becoming a Wolves fan because he liked Ant Edwards (I tried throwing Rockets propaganda at him obviously but we were the worst team in the league that year, so I was at a disadvantage  )
