NBA 2022-2023

Usually something as big as murder would have been picked up by media before Spurs would have a chance to release him.

You’re overrating Luka’s appeal outside of basketball.

The only news he’s making outside of basketball is how out of shape he has allowed himself to get during the off season.
The greatest basketball player alive is white! Well, I was gonna complain it never happens but if you just go by MVPs there's Nowitzki one year, Nash twice, Bird thrice, Bill Walton in '78...well I'm not sure about some of these older guys, got a Wilton Norman Chamberlain, whitest name I've ever heard, assuming he's related to your king.

If we can get Luka to drop the accent I can guarantee him hundreds of millions in lifetime earnings from shooting B-movie action flicks.

Yeah I think so too. Some others were speculating that it's a gambling issue. Maybe he was betting on Spurs games or trying to influence things with his play for betting purposes.

You just said you couldn’t think of players taking pay cuts.

Just people offered Supermax is a small sample size, but the over-all sentiment of essentially paying to have a more enjoyable career experience isn’t rare.

That being said it stands out when it happens, probably makes it seem more common than it is.

We’re both just saying we’re surprised, I figured people taking less than max (or very near max) would be almost nonexistent. But you seem to have expected lot of it.

I know what I said, but we were discussing Luca, so I was thinking contracts of similar size, not every veteran signing for GSW.

Re your last point: ?? I don’t understand. I expect almost no one to leave a max contract situation without a sign-and-trade.

I wouldn't be interested, let some other team waste their money on a guy who may wake up one day not wanting to practice or whatever.

Curious to see if Doncic will take a max with Dallas when eligible or test the market.
Doncic already has a max with them until 2027.

This Blazers team is super fun. We won’t contend but might make the playoffs and will have many exciting games throughout the season. On top of that, even if we don’t do particularly well it is the first time in ages that we actually have an exciting young core, aside from having very good experiences core. Simons-Sharpe backcourt is superb, Little has shown a lot of promise too. I love Sharpe pick, people have been going on about Banchero and Mathurin so far, and rightly so, but Sharpe has been quietly excellent for Portland as well (and is IMO a better talent than Mathurin anyway).

Any news on when GP2 is back?

I need to join a Lakers fans who hate the current squad group.

You can join mine! The only requirement is that you don’t watch games. It is in the mental health section of our group application.

Slow down on this one my friend. One of the best for sure, but at best he is #2 behind Giannis. Also, Dirk was never even the best player at his own position in his own State, and Nash’s MVP’s, especially his second are debatable. Bird was probably tied with Magic for “best player” for a few years and Walton is one of the most intriguing “what if he never got injured” guys, but he played during the prime Kareem era, so no.

If you are referring to "Andrew Wiggins" as any veteran signing for GSW, this is what @TheMagicFoolBus and I were discussing. Wiggins had already received a rookie max (147 million) with the Wolves and was eligible for a max deal after this season (5 years/190 million). I postulated there would have been suitors for his services even at that price. "Magic" reckoned no.

Either way, he left a massive amount of money on the table when he resigned with Warriors.

And Steph hasn’t slowed down yet. In terms of elevating his teammates, he is still unmatched amongst the superstars right now.

Russ doesn’t start yet somehow manages to play the second most minutes, take the second most shots (and he broke 30% shooting!) and made the most TO’s. Well done Hamm, you sure made your point. First coach fired? Why does my team sucking so bad feel so good? This is weird.

My guess is because you were ahead of the 8 ball on this. Your feelings are regularly being vindicated.

also a lot of these guys are just plain unlikeable

Maybe? I don’t know man. The Lakers used to be my first priority. In grad school I scrapped together league pass money and stayed up till midnight to finish games.

The LeBron signing was strike 1, the trading of every young, homegrown, player and draft asset to appease him was strike 2, and the Russ trade was strike 3. Somewhere out there Frank Vogel is cackling.

Even though they don’t have their pick, surely the Lakers least bad option is to just blow it up now? Trading your future away to make this team slightly better seems a terrible, terrible idea.

But LeBron has the highest basketball IQ in the NBA. If he wants to trade the future picks, it must be a good idea.

That is why they are so watchable. It's highly amusing seeing them lose game after game.

Sorry @WI_Red :(

3 MVP awards in a row and you won't give him best player alive for even 1 year. What did Larry Bird do to hurt you?

Didn't a fair amount of people thought that it wasn't going to work? I never really understood how adding a ball dominant, below par shooter would help this team. Even the alternative of DeRozan wasn't a good one.

Played for the Celtics, that’s an auto 25% reduction in perceived ability.

I’m sure lots of people predicted it, I’m just trying to guess why WI feels ok with seeing them be this bad

Nash’s second MVP is only debatable if you’re Shaq.

Suns lost 3 important players (Joe Johnson, Quentin Richardson and Amare) and still managed to get over 50 wins in a stacked Western conference.

And the best basketball player in the league right now is white. It’s Jokic though, not Luka

Shaq? He was already 33 and at Miami that season. Kobe (35 ppg, drug a stupid roster to 45 wins) and LeBron (31-6-7 and drug a stupid, but somewhat less so, roster to 50+ wins) had better cases.

Just read a Forbes article about values of sports teams.

Don't know why Joe Lacob is bitching about salaries. The Dubs had a revenue stream of 765 million last year and an operating income (profit - expenses) of 206 million.

In addition the value of the Dubs increased by 25% (1.4 billion) to 7 billion.

Cheap bastard.

How the hell do you lose to a team that starts Kelly Oubre?

Wiggins didn’t score his usual 18 points!

This is going to be a long regular season - well at least Steph will be in contention for the scoring title again.

You didn't watch much of that season if you are arguing Kobe or LeBron. Everyone knew it was between Nash and Shaq that season.

In 05-06 Shaq didn’t finish in the top 10 for MVP and he was a distant second for best player in his own team.

The 3/13 is pretty bad for sure. On a par with Laker level 3 point shooting.

Yeah, that's bad.

At least my Vols are going to win.
His WAR (Wins Above Russ) was only 0.1, you can’t win if you are performing at Russ level (0-5!) :D

Big 3 from Embiid, he had a embarassing flop around 1 min remain mark but big big 3

I think he was actually talking about the Cousins signing from a few years ago (think that was 2018/19 if memory serves?)

Another loss. As it stands this Dubs team is not very good.
