NBA 2022-2023

Denver is just awful right now, its like Jamal was in a coma for 2 years, forcing his role from where he left for with Jokic, like things didnt change during his injury.

Giving this Lakers team so many national TV games is a travesty. Horrible to watch.

Great start by a lot of the EC favourites - looking at the 76ers and Nets here. Heat also have struggled so far.

Jokic though.

Crazy good, if only Doncic chose to play for Serbia, those 2 together would be incredible to watch.

If you guys have a bit of time, I advise you to watch this video from an excellent content creator. I didn't realize it was this bad in the current NBA tbh

This has been in my suggested watches on YouTube for a while now. I finally did. Good video.

No idea what actually happened in the game, but what a fascinating box score. By stats Davis had the superior game, but that +/- is brutal.

Another little nugget is that LeBron now leads the entire NBA in turnovers with 19.

....and just to throw extra salt in the wound. Every other player in the top 10 in turnovers has played 5 games to James' 4.

I'm just waiting to see Skip and Shannon do the comedy music on that little lot.

Russ has 5 BTW.

That's not really true as pretty much any jump shot Russ takes is a TO.

If you throw in all Russ' 3 point attempts, he's still behind "the King." :)

He is shooting 8% from 3. Written another way that's 0.08. He's literally shooting at a James Bond level. Hell, I think the bad guys on the A-Team and the Storm Troopers had better shooting percentages.

He's taken 12 3s this year and is 1 - 12. Even if you throw in the 1 he made and count them all as turnovers that only gets him to 17.

....and it's not as if the rest of the team are shooting lights out. They could all be Stormtroopers.

The man has a FG% of 28.9. Last year the league average was 46.1%.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am not trying to defend LeBron or anyone on that roster (other than Thomas Bryant, love that guy) but Russ is one of my least favorite players to watch. Only Harden is higher in my pantheon of Anti League Pass guys.

That's an interesting point, especially when you compare it with Patrick Beverley and Kendrick Nunn who are shooting 21.1% and 29.0% respectively.

.....and they were supposed to be amongst the Lakers better shooters.

Yep. Definitely all Russ' fault.

What is that last sentence did I say that it was all your fault?

I actually am not that keen on Russ as an individual. He may be a great guy but to me he comes across as a self absorbed arrogant ass.

I love him as a basketball player though. Extremely entertaining, although I do sometimes feel like I'm rubbernecking when I watch him.

....almost forgot. I loathe James Harden's entire game. Cheat!

I've actually said some very naughty words about James on this website. :nono:

We can agree on Harden at least :)

Russ? Not so much.

Trade getting some buzz is Russ to the Heat for Lowry and Duncan Robinson. I think it works for all parties. It may happen sooner or later.

I think that would blow up the Lakers cap flexibility for next summer, right? Lowery expires in 24 and Robinson is signed till 2026. As of now the Lakers have only LeBron, Davis, Jones and Christie under contract in 23/24. This makes no sense from a cap (Lakers) or talent (Heat) perspective for either team.

It adds wages to the Heat.
Russ will be moved to another team for more expirings. Heat have to pay Strus and a couple other players next summer and will probably go for a big player again tok so need flexibility. Talent wise, Duncan gets no burn right now and with Jamal Cain and Jovic in he’s moved done the pecking order.

Russ is expiring though, so if the idea is to bite the bullet this year and look towards next summer it makes sense, but only if the Heat have no interest in being competitive this year.

Russ will be moved, Duncan doesn’t play, Cain and Jovic will get his minutes. Robin sons contract is too heavy but is cheap on the back end and is exactly what the Lakers need in terms of shooting and Lowry will slow the game down in the half court and feed everyone and take turns with Bron. It’s a long shot but ultimately not that bad.

Unless I'm mistaken they can't afford to lose that contract because they are in the luxury. The teams that would take him are tanking teams, that don't care about cap space in 2023 and just want picks.

Who is on the market next summer for the Heat to pursue in such scenario?

Or would they be left handing out a dumb contract to a borderline star player or two?

Only Irving is worth something. Other top FAs are going to be resigned by their teams.

I wouldn't be interested, let some other team waste their money on a guy who may wake up one day not wanting to practice or whatever.

Curious to see if Doncic will take a max with Dallas when eligible or test the market.

He is taking the max with Dallas. The way contracts are negotiated in the NBA you have to be a bit dense to test the market when you are eligible for the richest max contracts and you also don't want to lose the Bird rights.

There's nothing to test, he'd get the max from anyone who could give it. If he's gonna leave Dallas he might as well do it now.

Especially since he already knows that Dallas are the team that can offer him the highest contract and will do exactly that.

If I'm Cuban, I'm giving him the treatment Jerry Buss gave to Magic Johnson, the swingers tour of Dallas and the keys to all the right doors. Here's my financial advisor on speed dial, here's a look into some of my future investments, here are the power brokers of Dallas and Texas, here's my daughter, whatever would impress him. Or build a church for his favorite saint, who is now your favorite saint, if he's devout.

Interesting aside:

Only 2 teams have made the playoffs in NBA history after starting 0-4.

Both teams had Russell Westbrook as their starting PG.
