NBA 2022-2023

Someone who believes violence should not be part of the workplace?

If that happened in any other workplace Green would have been fired and charges pressed.
I agree, but I think there could be a lot of athletes in jail if that approach were taken.

What's interesting to me is that I think the front office wanted to come down a whole lot harder on Green than what has happened. Steve Kerr essentially said as much by pointing out that this was the worst crisis he had faced during his coaching tenure. If it was "the worst" why not at least a 1 game suspension which was what was levied after the KD incident? The impression seems to be that this was what the team wanted. Not sure I agree. (Actually, there's no "not sure," I don't agree). But I suppose we'll just have to wait and see whether this works out or not.

Oh well, then they would be in jail and/or out of the game. It’s not like anything about being an athlete is unique to the job. We all have conflicts with coworkers, regardless of our job. Also, it’s not like being an athlete is on the same stratosphere of stress as many other professions. The only reason this continues to happen is that people ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and think it’s normal and therefore ok. It’s not and is not.

The trouble is, I think a lot of athletes look at this as a "normal" part of the workplace. I've even heard athletes criticize Jordan Poole because he didn't have his hands up protecting himself. Shannon Sharpe even said that Poole should have popped Draymond first as soon as he got into his space and then let Steve Kerr make a decision on him. Until sport is legislated like all other workplace environments, I fear this is going to continue to happen.

I completely agree that a lot of athletes, and executives and fans, view this as acceptable in the workplace. However, if even on player does not then that is a big problem. No person should feel threatened in their place of work and I do wonder if by allowing this shit to occur with minimal, if any, consequences the leagues and teams are setting themselves up for massive liability. I would liken it to what we saw with domestic violence and how it was swept under the rug until the Ray Rice video came out. It took a catastrophic incident to bring some sort of acknowledgement to the NFL and I still don't think things are all that much better.

Put another way, what would happen in the NBA if the Kermit Washington/Rudy T incident happened tonight but it was Draymond in the role of Washington? If the guy in the Rudy T role sued the league and the Warriors I think they would be hard pressed to use a defense of "we did everything we could, not our fault".

Anyways, probably my last post on this since I think we are mostly, if not completely, in agreement and I do not want to derail he thread.

The irony of all this is IMLTHO the Warriors got the decisions exactly right for both the KD and Jordan Poole incidents. The trouble is, they got them backwards. Back in 2018 after KD and Draymond had words on the bench, they should have got the team together, got input from everybody and then made a decision (probably something similar to what they've done in the last week), have Draymond step away, let cooler heads prevail, have the team (principally KD) buy into their solution and move on.

In this incident, they should have suspended Green from the outset, no ifs, ands or buts. Forget the video, forget the media, implement an immediate suspension and then try and move on.

Oh well!

I tried not to make them too hard, but it seems I should have made them harder. Bit surprised you didn't get number 1 (the year, not the name) since we just had the 75th anniversary (top 75 players and all that). Still impressed though.

I’m really bad with years and dates. Like, historically bad.
Also, a lot of the historical stuff is likely from Bill Simmons Book of Basketball and the more recent podcasts of BoB 2.0. Douchey guy but fantastic writer.

Since @WI_Red answered virtually all my questions, I'll throw out 5 more.

1) Where was Larry Bird born, and where did he go to school?

2) Draymond Green was the 3rd player drafted by the Warriors in 2012. Which 2 players did the Warriors draft in front of him?

3) Which team drafted Dirk Nowitzki?

4) Kobe Bryant was named to All Defensive Teams 12 times. How many of those 12 times did the Lakers have a better defensive rating when he was not on the floor?

5) Stephen Curry was the 3rd PG taken in the 2009 draft. Which 2 PGs were drafted in front of him?

1) Where was Larry Bird born, and where did he go to school?
-French Lick, Indiana
-Trick question, sort of. He started as a Hoosier but dropped out and became a Sycamore

2) Draymond Green was the 3rd player drafted by the Warriors in 2012. Which 2 players did the Warriors draft in front of him?
Harrison Barnes and no clue

3) Which team drafted Dirk Nowitzki?
The Bucks. It’s insane the same trade landed him and Nash in Dallas.

4) Kobe Bryant was named to All Defensive Teams 12 times. How many of those 12 times did the Lakers have a better defensive rating when he was not on the floor?
this is just cruel. I know the answer is higher than I think, so I’m going to guess 5 times.

5) Stephen Curry was the 3rd PG taken in the 2009 draft. Which 2 PGs were drafted in front of him?
easiest question of the night. Rubio and Flynn, the two picks before him, both by Minny. Kahnnnnnn!

sorry I was going to say BAA then thought no that's probably not it. Sometimes the forum keeps part of my posts
BAA is correct. Basketball Association of America. First season 1946-47. Last year of course was the 75th anniversary.

Your youth (or basketball youth) is showing my friend. :)

I know Simmons is not everyones cup of tea, and Gladwell....errr...yeah, but this is a phenomenal book for anyone who loves basketball. He did (is doing??) a podcast version of 2.0 as apparently, he has trouble writing these days. I highly recommend this book.

That's probably another way of saying, we're really old. ;)
I don't think I am really old (but lord I feel it in the mornings sometimes), but I grew up sitting in the rafters of the Forum with my dad watching Showtime and watching the NBA on NBC all day Sunday. Saurday was chore day, Sunday was church and Basketball. Basically, anything from the early 80's onwards in burned into my brain.

Funnily enough, the only podcast I actually subscribe to is Simmons. Very interesting and even though he loves his Celtics does his best (for the most part) not to be biased.

I'm old, but I started watching basketball in the mid 80s, so our basketball eras are about the same I would guess.

I used to listen religiously to his stuff, but I am not really interested in the NFL and his podcasts became really NFL heavy and I lost interest. Eventually I will get back to it I think to catch up on the 2.0 podcasts.
