NBA 2022-2023

123m guaranteed so not too bad compared to Herro.

Wiggins taking a team friendly extension is good.

Draymond is gone either this season or after he takes the 27m player option.
I'm wondering when Draymond said that he was dealing with some personal issues the day he punched Jordan Poole that this was it. He knew both extensions were coming and he knew he was going to be left out.

As to Dikembe Mutombo, he seemed to be one of the nicest guys around. I really hope he can pull through.

Warriors have to be preparing for Draymond’s and most likely even Klay’s exit. Both will be up for an extension after 2023-24 and in Draymond’s case he could decline his player option and become a free agent next year already. Extending either will likely need to be for max money and I doubt they will be happy to pay $500m+ in salaries and tax for a few consecutive years. Maybe for a year, maybe for two but definitely cannot see them doing that year after year, even if Chase Center prints money.

Between Poole, Kuminga, Wiseman and Moody they have the talent to grow a pretty solid next generation team. I fear to think where they’d be if they’d drafted better with the Wiseman pick, and to an extent the Kuminga pick which could have been Franz Wagner (perfect fit for this team though Kuminga’s upside is probably higher).

I suspect Draymond is gone next summer unless he picks up his option, he likely will because I'm not sure another team is offering him close to that number but it's possible he doesn't and even if he does pick it up I would imagine that would be his last year on the Warriors. I'm sure they would want to keep Klay, partially for the sentiment of having multiple players spend their whole career there but also because it makes a franchise look better to players if they keep their stars, but unless he's willing to take a significant pay cut (which he might do given I'm not sure what the market will be for him in 2 years) then as you say it will get difficult.

The 2 timelines thing is interesting though, I'm not sure a team has ever tried to do it with this number of players. The Spurs were able to bridge the gap but that was basically only with Kawhi, trying to do it with 3 legendary players in their 30s and 4 youngsters all coming up for pay days in the coming years (plus Wiggins in the middle) is going to be interesting, several players are either going to have to take a bit less than they hoped for or some of them will have to move on.

I think Draymond's time with the Dubs is coming to an end. I do think it's possible though that Klay takes a significant discount to stay with the team. He will have made over 220 million career earnings by the time his contract is up and he seems to value happiness over money. I think he really likes being with Warriors so I think it's very possible he sticks around on a much lower salary.

I guess they still don’t fully trust him yet.

I have been impressed with him, the latter part of last season and this preseason. I think he's sort of turned a corner in his career but it obviously remains to be seen if he can be consistently good over a whole season. I'm much higher on him now than I was this time last year though.

It’s a good contract for both sides. Rockets protect themselves from his off the floor issues and he gets good money if he can conduct himself well. Even the $20m guaranteed in his first year is something that looked extremely unlikely back when he was traded from the Cavs, I would have expected him to end up in China right now.

Yeah for sure. It’s definitely a case of Rockets protecting themselves and for him the money is there if he keeps doing what he’s doing. He’s got a great thing going in Houston, and in a good head space, and it seems like both sides really appreciate one another.

With Beal feeling he was slighted all through his career, albeit going on to pocket an exhilarating $430m and without ever sniffing anything more than his own farts in terms of trophies, may the basketball start again!

Let's focus on the things that are truly important, like these absolutely incredible alternate uniforms from the Celtics. Often it's blasphemous for them to mess with their base kit which is easily the best in the league, but these are amazing and are extra poignant for Russell.

That call for Embiid  and why he looks like looking to hit a floor with no idea how to, wouldnt be surprise if some injuries comes from it.

Draymond continues to be a tool, with his new documentary on TNT about the preseason

The argument to trade him now or in Feb gets even higher.

The Celtics scored more points.
If the Sixers can produce a box score like that, where the other team doesn't out rebound them, with a marginal difference in turnovers and free throws, they are going to (and should) win a lot of games.

Considering the Celtics aren't known for their offense, that's a disappointing loss I'm sure. But yeah, 4 turnovers and 6 less makes is all there is in it.

Anyone else overanalysing every time Poole and Green are close
Poole should put some hundreds inside the band of his pants, go over to Green and tuck in his jersey, causing the hundreds to fall out of his shorts, around Green's feet.

"Sorry about that, shit's everywhere all the sudden."

Philly can’t win in three sports at the same time, come on now that’s just greedy

Was just expecting a closer game I guess and also hate losing to the Celtics

Yes! The TV guys are doing their bit by trying to get close up shots every time they are in vicinity of each other.

Celtics were just better tonight. Think the Sixers will again come close but fall in the post season.

Glad it’s not just me  there’s always exactly one person between them it seems

6ers will be tough this year. Unsure where they’ll be at the business end of the playoffs again. I liked them much more pre Harden trade though

Underperforming as usual :(

:(

hey at least there’s one likeable guy on your team now with JTA:angel:

POOLE-GREEN LINKUP

(I do hope you saw my white text)

sat in a bar tonight with work colleagues from the Bay Area who asked for the game to be turned on. I proudly can say that through 2 quarters of Lakers Basketball I still have not watched a minute.

I did, no worries
Fair play, keep it up! (You’re a USC guy, right?)

"he hit that from Sausalito"
incidentally I had probably the best coffee of my life in Sausalito

This has not been their best quarter for sure.

I don't even really know what the issue is. I know Westbrook cops a lot of the blame (and maybe my bias is blinding me) but I don't think he's even been that bad. The whole team is just...average.

This lakers roster is horrendous and my feeling is that the mood inside the camp isn’t great either. They seem to be putting all the blame on Russ when he isn’t really the big issue they have. They have a very weak roster outside the big boys
