NBA 2021-2022

Guys, guys, hold on! These are my picks. Grain of salt, please. :)

There is now way Trae Young belongs on third team. His stats are a good argument for first team. League leader in both points and assists. Only He and Tiny Archibald have done that in NBA history.

the 23-year-old became the second player in NBA history to lead the league in total points and total assists. The only other player was Tiny Archibald in the 1972-73 season.

He should be thankful for the play-ins, otherwise he's not sniffing third team if he misses the playoffs, let alone the ridiculous argument that he should be first team all NBA.

Much easier to rack up stats when he doesn't have to out in effort on defense.

Huge second half by Trae. I love it when a team silences a buoyant home crowd.

Big time performance by Trae, but also the Hawks as a team for hanging in there in the 1st half then dominant on both ends of the floor that 2nd half.

Not sure how bad Capela is, as it didn't look good but we'll see. Hawks will compete against the better and deeper squad in the Heat, but glad they get to be on national TV. Good team and great superstar in Trae.

Amazing basketball last night, play-in concept is ace (even though 9th v 10th has not delivered so far for the two year). So Pelicans get to send their pick to Charlotte and Blazers will now receive a protected 2025 Bucks picks which if it doesn’t convey will convert into a second round pick, as their prime asset in exchange for CJ McCollum which basically makes it nothing more than a salary dump. Superb management from Cronin.

That's horrific asset management.

It seems they might be looking to dump Keon Johnson too, so essentially they will have traded McCollum, Powell and Covington for a 2027 second round pick and MAYBE a 2025 late first, plus Josh Hart (he’s actually decent). And now they’ll be looking to trade a top 6 pick for Jerami Grant. It’s like Cronin has been given the role to sabotage the franchise on purpose, a random NBA fan would be able to do a better job with those assets.

It not about all time greats, is it? It is about 2022 Simple fact is that Trae is the league leading scorer and assist leader, something that has only happened twice in the history of the league. It is an amazing feat. Also amazing to average that many assists on a team that does not have a top #2 player on it. Of all years to think he does not belong at least second team, this is not that year with accomplishing something that is that rare.
He is not either the leading scorer (he is fourth) or assist maker (he is third). We cannot just change the stats which are used in the NBA to prove some point.

Agree with Charlton for Young being in the fourth team. Really hard to have him ahead of Doncic, Booker, Paul or Curry.

You must be looking at average points per game and average assist per game. Trae has the most points with 2155 for 2022

He has the most assists in 737 in 2022

Trae was more durable and played 8 - 10 more games than those close to him.

He's also 251st in the league in defensive win shares. Obviously that's not his primary role but it contributes hugely to the struggles of the Hawks this year. He's absolutely an all-NBA player but he doesn't belong on the first team - it's not based solely on offense.

I know that but no one cares about those statistics. Joel Embiid won the award of the league's top scorer.

He is second team for me.

That is a strange take. I have been following the league since the early 80s and the top scorer is always the player that scores the most points. Even using your exact phase turns up Trae.

This is not correct. The top scorer (and all other individual awards) are based on average per game with the catch that the player must have played at least 75% of the games.

As long as he doesn’t defend Young has no business of being close to first team all NBA.

I think it is the terms we are using. The top scorer is the most points. The scoring champion is based on ppg.

You are correct, however I think the point that @Revan is making is that usually nobody pays any attention to who has the most points, assists, rebounds etc... Scoring champion, assists leader, rebounds leader are typically all based on per game totals.

Perhaps this year it is because Trae is only the second person in league history to have the most points and most assists in a year, but that has completely overshadowed Embiid being the scoring champion on ppg.

I'm sure your front office will find a way to trade Josh Hart away for nothing as well.

I am pretty sure they will. He’s been way too good to keep him around.

BTW with how well he’s played, if we had actually got a lottery pick from Pelicans this year the value for CJ wouldn’t have been that terrible.

What I think will happen is, Blazers trade their pick for Grant, don't pick up Hart's option so they open up cap space to go for another star to play alongside Dame.

Offer the max for Miles Bridge only for Charlotte to match and Blazers panic and end up signing someone like TJ Warren on a one year deal.

That young Lakers team was so good until LeBron traded them all away

LeBron and MJ are obviously two of the best to ever play the game but their judgment as far as basketball talent is concerned is pitiful.

They weren't good but it was an extremely talented group of player. They needed a great coach and a few veterans to build a dynasty.

I don't like Trae Young, he is a flopper, a stat padder and a turnover machine. He isn't an all-NBA.

Ok, that's more defensible. I'd have him on the third team but wouldn't quibble with him being 2nd team over Curry. Personally don't think he should be first over Luka and Booker though.
Trae has a bigger argument over Luka.

Both don't play defense but Trae turned up for the whole season unlike Luka who spent the first month of the season getting into shape.

He's no more of a flopper than any other star, even if he's one third or half their size. He's a ball dominant guard who also very efficient and had the most total assists in the league.

3rd in total efficiency. Less turnovers per game than Doncic and Harden, still up there at almost 4 per game. 9.71 assists per game, 3rd in NBA behind Harden and CP3.

Yeah, my post reads like someone that is being rational.:wenger:

Instead of going back and forth about who deserves what, let's see your picks for all NBA. Just cause my picks are the right ones, doesn't mean you guys can't have a go :D  ;)

Our all NBA picks are more likely "correct" than Warriors winning the title..... ;)
Hey, I haven't got the Dubs winning it all. I do think they have a decent chance though if everybody can stay fit. I just don't think they match up well with the Bucks if my predictions hold true.

I don’t know that I watch enough of the league to have an informed pick over all positions. I try to watch all of Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta United, Atlanta Falcons, and Chelsea games. That is a bit much, the only thing that really stops me is the stupid black out home games for my Atlanta teams.

If Warriors stay healthy, then their 2nd unit team and defense can cause Bucks problems for sure. That would be another physical matchup and there's a few battles to be won to even get there.
