NBA 2021-2022

With Pelicans winning last night they are one game away from keeping their pick and conveying Bucks 2025 () to Blazers as compensation for CJ (who was amazing last night, he’s a big game player).

So essentially we will have traded our entire roster for Josh Hart.

The high Portland pick this year will go to Detroit anyway so I’m in a way hoping it’s not a top 4 one, but on the other hand if it’s end up being 6th or 7th they will probably throw in a future first or a young player to Pistons so maybe it’s better if it is no. 1 or no. 2 in the end. Pistons having two top 4 picks to add to Cade would be nuts though.

I feel with you. This season will probably mark the beginning of a painful and slowish rebuild for the Blazers.

I'm a bit confused by that one. Why are they not sending the worse pick?

Also the Blazers are historically not a big free agent destination, correct?

All the rumors from around the team say they want Jerami Grant badly to give Dame that much needed veteran help. They will trade whatever they can and if the Pelicans picks doesn’t convey, the only real asset of value will be our own pick. I have zero doubt it will be offered in exchange for Grant. A slim chance that they may offer Pelicans pick instead if it conveys (if they lose to Clippers).

Of course chances are Holmgren, Banchero or Smith would help more even in the short term than a slightly above average Grant will but it doesn’t matter as just like always it’s all about ‘win now’.

We will overpay to a few guys in free agency too. That veteran help is too precious for this FO not to.

I don’t mind a rebuild, I actually want it to happen. Two or three seasons before team is half decent, some fun games in between, then we could be back at a good level. I think Thunder fans are having more fun in those rebuild seasons than we were in our ‘first round exit, let’s trade everything for an average player to get veteran help’ years. Condemning yourself to more and more mediocrity is way worse than losing and rebuilding.

I just saw pregame Zion. What is wrong with him? He looks like a defensive tackle ready for the draft.

Just saw a headline; "Zion 360 dunks in warmup before Pelicans game."

Dumbass me, "Damn that's an awful lot of dunks for somebody who's been injured."

Then I figured it out. :(:wenger:

It was his weight.

Edit: There are better angles but

No wonder he is getting injured, to do such things with that weight, so stupid.

The crazy part is that he is incredibly athletic, it's not normal to dunk the way he does at his weight. I'm convinced that he is the best player in the NBA if he stops that nonsense and gets in shape.

Yea probably just, why they even letting him, is there anyone in his circle to get him on a side and advise that its not best for his ankles for elephant to do such things.

cronin has said time and again that we won’t be rebuilding. i think their immediate goal was to break up cj, dame(long overdue) and trade for few better pieces

Yeah, so basically confirms they will be looking to trade their pick for whatever they can get for it, which is terrible decision as getting a top level talent that could contribute in 1-2 years is the only way this team can become a contender. And it’s not like we haven’t had loads of high draft picks in recent years that did not need much time to be amazing.

I watched that clip yesterday. I thought it was rather selfish that he finally gets to a level to play and help the team and then does something for the cameras that could take him out of the series. I have nothing against a player being flashy, but contribute a little before any of that.

Not that it's a surprise, but Shams Charania is reporting that Luka is expected to miss game 1. He is further reporting that the Mavs are going day to day on the injury, but that a calf strain usually takes a minimum of 7 days to heal.

yeah, I don’t like the strategy either. but they don’t have many options, especially with dame wanting to stay. I honestly hope the team gets sold tbh.

As long as front office think they can build a championship contender around Lillard they won’t be able to build one. He’s a great player, good enough to be the second best player on a proper contender, but he’s not of quality where you can build the best team in the NBA around him.

@Sarni knowing blazers and their luck with drafting players. It isn’t the worst idea to trade away the picks for someone who can immediately help the team.

It’s a terrible idea. Their fascination with Grant is pathetic. There’s no guarantee you will get the next superstar with your pick but it’s guaranteed you won’t get anywhere with another above average veteran.

forget drafting a superstar, I’d be happy if we can shake off our curse with injuries.

According to Monte Poole (Dubs local insider), Curry participated in 3 six minute scrimmages today without any problems. He is further reporting (according to Steve Kerr), that if there is no adverse reaction Friday, Curry will play in game 1, but with a minutes restriction.

Do Portland own their own pick next season?

They owe it to the Bulls but it’s lottery protected until 2028 and becomes a second round pick then. Which basically makes it untradeable.

This is spot on - only position up for debate for me is maybe swapping CP3 and Ja. Personally I dislike the rule-bending to get Embiid onto the first team - given that Bill fecking Russell finished second team all NBA more often than he did first Embiid can get over it.

There is now way Trae Young belongs on third team. His stats are a good argument for first team. League leader in both points and assists. Only He and Tiny Archibald have done that in NBA history.

the 23-year-old became the second player in NBA history to lead the league in total points and total assists. The only other player was Tiny Archibald in the 1972-73 season.

Trae didn't play a meaningful game this season until the other night against the Hornets. Same with LeBron. Stats are great, wins are better. I couldn't put either one higher than 3rd team for that reason. Everybody on my 1st and 2nd teams made the playoffs outright except for KD and I gave him a pass because the Nets were 36-19 when he played.

If you are using being on a top team as a metric for first or second team, you are doing it wrong. Colin Herd has him first team. No way you lead the league in points and assists and on 3rd team.

Paul George will not play against Pelicans tonight, having entered health and safety protocols, which makes Pels favorites.

Both games tonight should be fairly close. They are basically playing for the privilege of being wiped out by Heat and Suns though so in a way it’s hard to be too excited about this. Well I guess Hawks could steal a game or two from Miami.

No, I'm using meaningful impact as a metric for 1st and 2nd team. Not BEING on a top team, actually MAKING them a top team. Trae played well this season, hence 3rd team, but the Hawks were significantly worse this year (9th seed) than they were last year (5th seed) and he didn't make any of the all NBA teams in 2021. It's all well and good scoring lots of points and having lots of assists but if that doesn't lead to wins then IMLTHO 3rd team is where I think he belongs.

Also, I'm presuming you mean Colin Cowherd had him 1st team. If that's your criteria for judging a players worth I'd suggest you spread your net a little bit wider when looking for basketball info.

Did you factor in that Atlanta has had a ton of injuries this year and Trea carried them to the play in? Just as he carried them to the Eastern Conference finals last year? It is a team with on bonafide star competing against stacked teams. Putting him third team is just laughable.

Pretty much every team has had a ton of injuries this season and the Hawks were one of the more disappointing teams in the NBA given what they achieved last season and the reasonable expectation that their young core would continue to develop together. Who are you taking out of the first 2 teams because there's no way he gets in ahead of Booker or Luka (or Curry for that matter)? So the only debatable one really is Chris Paul and it's hardly laughable to select an all-time great who was on the team with comfortably the best record in the league over someone on a team that underwhelmed for much of the year.

It not about all time greats, is it? It is about 2022 Simple fact is that Trae is the league leading scorer and assist leader, something that has only happened twice in the history of the league. It is an amazing feat. Also amazing to average that many assists on a team that does not have a top #2 player on it. Of all years to think he does not belong at least second team, this is not that year with accomplishing something that is that rare.

But Chris Paul was still great this year, for the best team in the league. The record might be rare (it's also a slightly contrived record given that per game stats are used the vast majority of the time for performance over a season) but those numbers didn't amount to that much given that his team underachieved and finished 9th. It's really not that big of an insult to be considered one of the 6 best guards in the league this year.

Laughable was a bit strong on my part, I just don’t agree with it considering the year he had with no supporting cast.

That's fair enough, I personally think 3rd team is OK but he definitely could have made the 2nd team and I think if their record as a team had been better he might have made it but the story that built, justifiably, about their season was that it was a disappointment.
