NBA 2021-2022

Lackluster performance by Nets. KD's shooting was shit, but he had a career-high of 16 assists.

They really need Ben Simons in defense considering that no one in that team bothers to defend.

Mavs are 8-9 without Doncic this season. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/mavericks-record-without-luka-doncic-this-season

Gotta figure they're gonna have a better win percentage with Doncic in those 17 games, and likely in the third seed and potentially second seed. The 9 losses are by a combined 49 points to the likes of Phoenix (2), Clippers, Lakers (fully fit & before it imploded), Memphis, Milwaukee, Minnesota, and Utah with the Sacremento result the lone "bad" loss. Good wins over Charlotte and Minnesota without Doncic, the rest were cannon fodder wins.

So, yeah, @Sarni isn't far off suggesting a fully fit Doncic in the early season is right there in the MVP discussion.

Ends the season with a bang. What a fun season. If only he had figured it out sooner, he could have had a say the ROY race.

He is a fun player. I reckon if Houston could get Jabari Smith or Banchero they will be a team to watch next season, should be proper fun with a borderline chance to make the play-in. Ivey would be a decent fit too. Just not Holmgren (who would in turn be a great fit for OKC or Pistons).

Well the good news is thanks to today's results, if the Dubs can come out of the West, they'll have home court for the finals. :)

Luka injured  :(

So, in the end the Cs decided not to tempt the gods, and now they get to try and beat one :D

Heat vs Hawks 4-2
Celtics vs Nets 4-3
Bucks vs Bulls 4-0
Sixers vs Raptors 4-2

Suns vs Clippers 4-1
Grizzlies vs Wolves 4-1
Warriors vs Nuggets 4-3
Mavs vs Jazz 4-2

I would wait for the play-in games to shake out before making predictions, wouldn't be surprised for example if the Clips beat the T'Wolves.

I actually think Chet would be fantastic fit for the Rockets. He brings a lot of the Sengun's deficiencies to the table, rim protection, just better defence in general plus he's got pretty good playmaking skills of his own. The biggest problem for the team this season has been not being able to stop anybody. We need to spend the off season addressing that. Chet would go along way in making us less easy to score against.

Willing to give KPJ another season to see what he can do at PG before looking at fixing that position.

Banchero seems to be worst fit for me, while Chet is the best fit. Jabari Smith is somewhere in the middle. If we get the first overall pick, I'd take Chet. Anywhere else in the top 5 I'm taking the best man on the board.

I believe in Sengun.

Turns out Tony Brothers tried to save the Mavs by giving Luka that nonsensical tech that got rescinded. Now Luka got what looks like a calf strain and I'm genuinely worried that this might have killed the Mavs season. All for an ultimately pointless game 82.

Look like we could both be in the same boat since the latet news from the Warriors is that Steph may miss the beginning of the playoffs.

EDIT:According to Woj, the Mavs are saying the injury is not significant, so it looks like you might be ok.

I have a bad feeling about my Wolves, I see the Clippers winning.

I won’t be shocked to see Kawhi return but maybe not for this game. Even without him they should be a close match. There is a massive difference between 7th and 8th this year is huge as playing Suns and Grizzlies is different world.

If Luka is out for the first round there's no way the Mavs beat Utah.

Good news and bad news;

According to the Mavs, Luka had the MRI and it confirmed the calf strain, but the same source said he would not be ruled out of game 1 at this time.

On the other side of the coin, ESPN reported that based on all calf strains reported in the NBA this season, the average time for a full recovery was 16 days.

Kawhi's not going to rush his way back for the playoffs unless they reach the conference finals.

Good news and bad news;

It's basically "no news", the calf strain had already been confirmed, basically. Whether it's a 3 day thing or a 1 month injury is just as up in the air as it was yesterday from the public's viewpoint.
Of course the Mavs won't rule him out, they 1) have tickets that need selling and 2) don't want Utah to look at their cards. This says absolutely nothing about the state of Luka's calf muscle(s).

I agree with @Ayush_reddevil, I think he won't play game 1 and 2, and if the Mavs are 0:2 after those, things will be look grim.
Can't believe this season started out horribly, then went great and then ended on such an awful note. I never thought I'd say this, but we just should've listened to Tony Brothers.

I think there is absolutely no chance Luka plays game 1 or 2
To be honest, I don't know why he was even out there. I understand that the Mavs were still going for the 3 seed, but when the Dubs were up by 20 at HT, that should have been the end of it.

The way Kawhi is about injuries, it's probably more like game 4 of the finals with the Clippers up 3-0. :)

So, I would go.

East:
Nets defeat Cavs
Hawks defeat Hornets
Hawks defeat Cavs

Heat defeat Hawks
Nets defeat Celticks
Bucks defeat Bulls
76ers defeat Raptors

76ers defeat Heat
Nets defeat Bucks

Nets defeat 76ers

West
Clippers defeat Wolves
Pelicans defeat Spurs
Wolves defeat Pelicans

Suns defeat Wolves
Grizzlies defeat Clippers
Warriors defeat Nuggets
Mavs defeat Jazz

Suns defeat Mavs
Warriors defeat Grizzlies

Suns defeat Warriors

Final:
Nets defeat Suns

This assumes that Curry and Doncic will be fit. If not, both Mavs and Warriors will exit in the first round.

Luka’s injury is ridiculous luck for Mavs but also bad planning. He did not need to be on the floor in that game at all, they had home court secured and getting above Warriors was unrealistic.

I would be amazed if the Nets beat Celtics , Bucks, Sixers and suns to win the title . Zero chance imo

Which again doesn’t make sense because they will face the most in form team in the league in the Celtics and then the bucks who are bookies second favs
They were leading their conference before KD’s injury, and it took them to get depleted for Bucks to eliminate them in 7 last season. I think they are really strong as long as him and Irving are fit in the playoffs.

Wow, bold prediction on the Nets there.

I just don't know how they deal with Emblid or Giannis in a series. If they make it past the East then yeah fair enough

Dubs released info on Steph's injury today but really didn't say a whole lot. Steve Kerr did say that it would be irresponsible to play him in game 1 unless he has at least 1 scrimmage with the team under his belt. They next scrimmage on Thursday.

Personally, I would be surprised if he plays in game 1.

They are third bookies favorites, to be fair.

That is because of how people are betting as they are tricked by big names. If Lakers were in play-in they’d be like fourth favorites right now (they were also favorites before season started). Pretty much none of the experts I’ve listened to give them a real chance.

The Nets were actually the preseason favorite (Lakers 2nd), but more than 50% of all the money bet went on the Lakers.
